This Saturday random brought to you by another Saturday at the soccer fields. I know we’ve had SO many discussions about youth sports….but it is SO frustrating when kids assigned to his team quit mid-season, or just don’t show up to games. I know that people have all kinds of reasons for why their kid misses games, and I’m sure many of them are good. But some kids have just stoped showing up completely, and when you have 11 kids assigned to a team, and four just stop coming, and you need 7 kids on the field, it gets really frustrating for the rest of the team.
VillainV , that is frustrating. Did the parents pay for this activity?
Though there was one season where I had to have DD drop out of soccer because she kept getting sick and just needed more time to rest so she wouldn't keep missing school. I emailed them and everything but I couldn't keep sending her.
But usually if I've paid for the activity, I make my kids finish it. Like DS suddenly HATED the sports program through daycare last year. I made him finish though it was painful in the mornings because he would be such a grouch on sports days, but I didn't sign him up for again the next season.
I was up early because my stomach was hungry. I guess I ate dinner earlier than normal last night?
I’m spray painting a stool and working on laundry. And plan to clean at least E’s bathroom today. DH keeps telling me to enjoy the quiet house, but I also want to be productive.
I need to start packing. Tomorrow’s weather is looking terrible, so I hope my flight isn’t too affected.
VillainV my friend is a girls on the run coach and she says for the cost, which isn’t cheap, she is amazed at the girls who either don’t show up or show up, then drop.

I'm pretty upset. DS got hurt on the playground at school yesterday and there was no note sent home. It wasn't just a small bump. Both knees are skinned, he has a huge scratch on his hip, his elbow is scraped and he has a bump on his head.
He had a bandaid on so I know the teacher knew. This actually shocks me because both the teacher and para are fantastic. I've typed and deleted my email to the teacher several times because I don't want to be mean, but I'm not happy!
Aw, sorry blondemoment123. I would just say something like "I noticed DS had some pretty significant injuries yesterday from the playground, and I am a little concerned that no one shared that information with me. Can you tell me what happened?" and go from there?
It's raining here and doesn't look like it will stop almost before the afternoon rain moves in. Guess it's my stationary bike trainer today (think Peleton, but something my bike sits on). Ugh. I like to be OUTSIDE on the weekends!

The weather here has consistently been warm and gorgeous on weekdays, and then we get one sunny-but-chilly and one absolute-downpour day each weekend 🙄
Today is sunny-but-chilly, trying to figure out how to get a double dose of outside time.
sent it is a paid activity, and its not cheap, but it’s not so expensive that it would hurt most families around here to walk away from.
I mean, we have one kid in one sport, so we don’t have to juggle multiple kids’ schedules. Obviously stuff comes up for people (kids get sick, family emergencies). It just bugs me when parents sign their kids up for stuff then don’t see it through. My SIL and BIL did this all the time when their kids were little — they’d sign up for football or lacrosse or whatever, then miss half the games because of pre-planned leisure travel, or let the kids drop out mid-season leaving their teams in the lurch.
Two of the kids on C’s team are brothers, and they dropped because they weren’t playing up to dad’s standards and either he pulled them or they didn’t want to get yelled at from the sidelines anymore. So, I mean, it’s definitely better for their wellbeing that they’re not playing anymore, but maybe if their dad could have refrained from being a jerk, the team wouldn’t have to beg for guest players every game.
I’m also grumpy because the weather forecast was off, and it’s unexpectedly raining. We are NOT prepared for this weather (no umbrellas, no towels, no change of socks). It’s gonna be a long day.
VillainV, we had one kid drop off our baseball team (that only had 10 players to begin with). His mom said there was a lot going on and she was not able to get him to practices/games. She has 4 other kids, so I get it. But a bunch of the parents on our team, including myself, said we'd totally be willing to help out, and she declined. But then I've seen her posting lots of pictures of one of her other older boys playing baseball, and I feel sorry for the one that was supposed to be on our team! Also, like you wasted $55 for the signup plus $60 for the raffle tickets we had to sell and $50 for concession stand shifts - that's not a small amount of money. I don't get it.

I have a man cold. I started feeling that feeling in my chest Wednesday. Was worthless Wed night. Have felt horrible since. I've basically laid on the couch for 3 days straight and resting is NOT making me feel better. I hate colds. I'm coughing, I'm congested, I can't sleep, my nose hurts.

OMG! The rain has moved on, but there is more rain this afternoon! I am getting out for a ebike ride while I can!
Yes I agree....it's the weekend, so one day HAS to have icky weather! UGH!!
Another rainy Saturday here per usual. We had a great night last night though; took DS out to dinner to our favorite pub and then came back here and made a fire and had friends over.
Baseball game was canceled so it was nice to have a slow morning. I'm gong to work out; H is going to go to a coffee shop to do some work for his grad class starting this week. I might meet a friend later for a drink. Otherwise, nothing going on. DS has added a few classmates to messenger and it was hilarious listening to him on the "phone" with them this morning on his iPad.
We have nothing tomorrow either, which is fine. Monday through Thursday this week I have to commute 45 minutes to work for our state testing (I work for a cyber school so we have regional "sites" for completing these in person every year). It's always an exhausting week for me so I don't mind having a few quieter days in advance of this.

We had to say goodbye to our elderly dog so the kids (well all of us but kids aren’t handling it well) are pretty upset this morning. Lazy movie watching cuddles happening, but I really need to do homework for most of the day.
Welp, shouldn't have been so proud of myself yesterday- I tried to put contacts in at home and couldn't do it. I had to walk away because I am getting ragey. I tried a few times, couldn't do it, lost one on the floor for about 10 minutes. I don't know if its still OK? I put it back in clean solution. They gave me some monthlies to practice with for the weekend and wear like X amount of hours per day, and then dailies for next week until I go back for an appointment Friday. This is dumb lol.
It's raining here in central WA state too but I'm happy about it because we hardly ever get rain being a semi desert and all. I'm savoring it really because in 1-3 months there will be wildfires and smokey unhealthy air.
Anyways, I'll be visiting my mom later this morning. She had total knee replacement last month in a city 3.5 hours away (because healthcare in our city is awful) and finally came home yesterday. I haven't seen her since Easter.
arehopsveggies, hugs to your family. It’s so hard to lose a pet.
I was going to return something to Costco this morning and got there 10 minutes after it was supposed to be open. They were still not open and there was a huge line of people waiting. I decided I’d fit that in another day. I would guess opening late would lead to some crabby shoppers.
Baseball today with DS, hair appointment for DD, then dinner with my parents for DH bday. We’re in charge of snack for baseball too, and so glad I went last night!! I’m exhausted thinking about it all. At some point, I need to go to a patient’s house to pick up some crocosmia bulbs too, but that might wait until tomorrow. Lol
DS and I are going to start running again. I’m excited for that! We will do the couch to 5k together, and he will be a kind person about it while he laps me and waits for me to catch up to his endurance (usually 4 weeks in lol). I looked at some 5ks for us to run in around end of June- early July. One was $124 for us! You had to buy your own medal. I did not sign up for that. Lol.
First day in forever that we haven't had something on the calendar! I actually managed to go back to sleep when I woke up 5:30 and didn't wake up until 9:30. It's cool and drizzly today, which is my favorite for sitting on the porch so I spent the morning out there with coffee and a book.
Need to do some cleaning, email catch up, maybe a little bit of work today.
I’m watching Anyone But You and wow this movie is terrible. I would like the FMC to talk with her mouth, not behind her teeth and there’s a scene where the back strap of her bikini is basically at her neck and I want to each in and pull it down.
I too am enjoying an empty house. SKs are with their mom and DH had a meeting.
I spent 30 mins speed cleaning so I feel like the house is reset for the weekend.
Now I’m done and going to enjoy the quiet. Tonight we may go see my DH’s childhood home that my ILs own as a rental. They recently remodeled, so I get to see it for the first time.
Shopping with L for an 8th grade dance dress. The child, who refused to wear dresses for literally 7 straight years and has worn in my presence mostly free t shirts in size L and track pants now is like "ooh, look at this cute cropped shirt" and "I like fitted dresses." She wants a new look.

The fatal flaw of the donut train is that we invited grandparents to go with us. They never stop talking. I texted my husband halfway through the trip, “Do you think if they stop talking, they’ll die?”
Bless my son, he had the time of his life and sat at the table with his grandparents so we didn’t have to!

🤷🏻♀️
I think I would fall over in shock if my DD ever asked for anything fitted or girly. She is one year younger than yours but is an oversized tee/shorts 365 days a year kind of girl. I can imagine your confusion right now because I’d feel the same! Also. 8th grade dance! That came fast. Junior high is mind trip.
H is at the Kentucky Derby, he’s swearing in a group of new physicians to the Army at Winners Circle around 2pm. I went last year but I’m home this year. Hoping they broadcast it so I can watch!

DD was the same until the beginning of this year, 7th, when she decided she wanted a new look. Now everything is cropped and tight. I wish she’d go back to the baggy look.

Yesterday DH scheduled a last minute work trip to Mexico for this week, leaves Monday early AM and home Saturday night. His birthday is this Friday and the kids would be upset if we didn't celebrate, so this AM was a whirlwind. DS1 had track, I got a workout in and did laundry, then went to a local bakery and picked up desserts and stopped at a few stores for gifts. One gift I ordered last week and will arrive while he is gone. Then grabbed takeout for lunch. Home now and it's a rainy day and I don't plan to leave the house again today.
One fork of the river crested already and is going down now, no homes flooded outside the ones that are in a very low lying area that flood regularly, so that is great news. We are waiting on the other fork to crest tonight but it looks like flood damage to homes will be minimal, fingers crossed. More rain upstream is expected but it looks like it will be late enough to not make things worse.
I have an appointment for DD’s stuffie at the local doll hospital this week. I’m hoping it can be salvaged! I think we have a good chance.
Sports teams: I think some people don’t realize how much it affects the rest of the kids when they drop or don’t show. It was awful when the kids didn’t get to rotate out bc they didn’t have enough players. DD’s last coach was great, we had a big team so he’d rotate our players out with the other team when the other teams didn’t have enough players to get breaks. It was a great lesson in sportsmanship but still sucks for everyone. I’ve always been adamant that dd won’t be in multiple activities that regularly conflict, even if they promise to accommodate, bc it really isn’t fair for the kids who are showing up.
