We’re heading to the Vancouver area this summer for vacation and was wondering my if anyone has a family photographer they’d recommend? I’ll take any vacation-related recs, too, but I’ve been saving Vancouver posts from here for awhile, so I already have a good list going. We’ll be in Whistler for 3 nights, Vancouver for 7, and Vancouver Island for 5 nights. Thanks!
There is a ton of great hiking, but our favorite hike was the High Note trail. You take the gondola up Whistler and then take up the Peak Chairlift. The hike goes around the back of Whistler Peak and wraps back around to the gondola. I think the hike is just under 6 miles - gorgeous views. Oh, and another fun short hike (like 1 mile) you can do is to the Train Wreck. It takes you to some freight cars that derailed back in the 1950's. They're now covered in graffiti. The trailhead starts just a few miles outside of Whistler.
There is a fun zipline course. We did the Bear Tour with the kids, and then H has done the Sasquatch when he went up with friends. The Bear Tour is fun with a series of lines. The Sasquatch is insane with one long line that takes you from Blackcomb to Whistler - I think it's the longest run in North America.
If you like mountain biking I'd recommend checking out the trails around Lost Lake. The trails are marked like ski runs - green, blue, black. You can also take the chairlift up to do downhill, but that is pretty hardcore biking (people in full motorcycle type helmets, chest pads, etc.).
I'm not positive they do it every year, but they have had a Family Adventure Zone at Blackcomb base that is great for kids. Bungee trampoline, those giant balls you can climb in and roll around, mini golf, etc.
There is a pretty fun farmer's market on Sundays at Blackcomb Base. Oh and if you like escape rooms Escape Whistler is great. They have 6 different rooms of various difficulty - with Pirate Ship being the easiest and Rabbit Hole the hardest.
If it's hot you can swim at Lost Lake, they have a nice park area but it is cold.
For food we love Sushi Village and The Mexican Corner (they're right next to each other). For pastries check out Pure Bread, and we had a great breakfast at both Crepe Montagne and Provisions. You can also have dinner at the Roundhouse at the top of the gondola. It's been years since we did that but it was pretty good and was a fun experience.
I don't have any photographer recommendations but we do go up to Whistler a handful of times each year. So let me know if you have specific questions.
I don't have anything planned for Whistler yet. If you have any food or activity recs, I'd happily take them!
Hunter Gather is a great sit down restaurant, but still family friendly, on Main Street in the Village. Right across the street is Peaked Pies which is an Australian bakery. Their savory pies are great for a take away meal.
If you don't have lodging yet, our favourite place is the Summit Boutique Hotel. It's gotten more expensive since we first started going, but the location in the village is great for families. Easily walkable to shops/restaurants/playgrounds/skate and bike park/hiking trails.
