I would be shocked if he was dumped, based on how expensive the breed is?? If the owner wanted to get rid of him, surely they'd have no problem reselling. Possibly though, he could have been stolen and later dumped by the thief if they couldn't turn him over easily enough (without papers). I hope the breeder is able to find the owner.
We took in our stray 7 years ago and she is the most loveable cat. She also just came right up to us purring and walked into our apartment and never left. Enjoy the snuggles!

I, too, am surprised ... but I've looked on every lost pet/cat website and local Facebook groups -- no reports of him missing. No signs in our area. If my pet were missing that's the least I'd do, along with registering the microchip/getting back in touch with the breeder!
Maybe something happened to the owner and whoever inherited him is like us and didn't know there even are cat breeders and fancy cats? That's the story I made up in my head trying to make sense of it.

Curious what the breeder said beyond "Let me look for the owner's name." Any of the breeders I've dealt with would have wanted the cat back stat and then looked for the owner's name. So, I'm guessing not the best of breeders, unfortunately. But, fortunate for you if you want him!
I love this for your family in light of losing your beloved pup! You are so kind to take in this lovely volunteer.
My parents had a cat do this to them....just showed up all bony one day in their (rural, farm area) house. He was so thin.
They called him Bones. It stuck. He was so lovely all of his days. He filled out and made a nice addition to the family for years!
I'm sorry about your dog. My DH and DS are very allergic to cats and dogs so no more pets for me but I know the loss of family like that. It is so hard. I hope your new cat can help salve your wounds.
