We had a crazy busy weekend, ending with realizing both kids have strep yesterday. They are both home today, DD is really sick, DS not so much. H has been out of town the last four weekends, got home yesterday afternoon and is leaving this afternoon for a work trip. I'm ready for a break.
Thanks for listening to me vent!
Other than that I have three books at the library to pick up and I'm hoping to get there before H leaves.
Had a wedding to attend this weekend. It was very pretty, but we froze! It was in the low 50s and breezy, plus spitting rain now and then. The ceremony and cocktail hour were both outside. We ended up going and sitting in our car because we were so cold. A lot of people just started going into the reception space, even though we weren't supposed to. There were mainly elderly people and small children. Once inside, the wedding was great and the bride was stunning!
I've worked out pretty hard the last 3 days in a row and my muscles are tired. In a good way, but it's been awhile since I've been able to do it this hard, and I kinda forgot that this might happen, lol.
Otherwise, it's a busy work work week, trying to catch up from being on the road so much this last month. Only 2 weeks until we leave for vacation though, so I'll power through!

There's probably a TW warning here about animal death.
eta nevermind. It went too long Suffice to say I'm really angry about the current setting, and I have a dead cat in my freezer and cannot get it autopsied for what we strongly suspect was intentional
We went out for Chinese last night since all the Mexican restaurants were packed and I woke up still drunk this morning from the two gin & tonics I had. Literally had to wake H up and ask him to drive the kids to school. Went back to bed for almost 2 hours. Sitting here working still feeling floaty and weird.
I get to host a client call in 20 minutes, this should be fun!
DD had a GS meeting yesterday afternoon, and asked about half hour beforehand if it was too late to skip it, she had hw to finish. I told her no, she'd had the better part of Friday (no school) and all day Saturday. We leave, she's huffy in the car, but whatever. I pick her up and of course she had a good time and is in a better mood, and as we're chatting it comes out that the hw she had to finish is in fact her randomly-assigned partner's work for something that was due today. This little shit had the audacity to text her at 1:30pm the day before the assignment was due, after two weeks of class time to work on this, to ask her to do his work for him because he "forgot" and had a soccer game so wouldn't have time to do it. WTAF.
We talked through her options- tell him no, she couldn't do it after all and he either doesn't do it or does a crap job and it affects her grade; or she can do it and get a decent grade but then that rewards his disrespect. She landed on doing it herself (it took all of 25 minutes, so pretty sure he could have done it at some point before or after soccer), and then emailing the teacher to let him know the situation, to which he replied that he appreciated the heads up and that the other kid "would be graded accordingly."
In the end I think an ok outcome, but I am still a little enraged that this kid was totally cool with shoving his work off onto someone else, and that DD then felt like she was going to have to skip her own plans because he flaked.
I had a lovely weekend and the week is off to a rough start. Traveling again the next 2 days for work. I've already booked Friday off, might request Thursday as well. I need a break badly. The good news is I'm going to get to expense some delicious seafood for this trip!

I came back to the office after WFH Thurs and Fri, and we have no internet, and my boss changed his mind about the details of a project we're supposed to do today. A very Monday Monday indeed.

I was at the senior send off show for our theater community until almost 12 last night. L and I are both dragging today. And if this is any indication - the next 3 years until L is a senior are going to be hard. These kids are so great.
I am transitioning out of my temp assignment this week. The problem is, I'm being bombarded with the next one, but I can't give it my full attention right now.
It's very frustrating for people to understand that I can't give everything my priority.
DD and I saw Moulin Rouge the Musical this weekend. It was sooo fun and the music was great - they even slide a Rick Roll in (which DD loved!). I was only a little bummed that the "Come As You Are" mash up didn't make it to the stage version.
On Sunday, the fam went to lunch (Japanese food, in prep for DD and my trip) then to IKEA. It was just a fun little family day.
This week should be a little calmer, since we have an offsite activity with a lot of people gone. Of course, should be isn't always will be, as a freelancer dropped out LAST NIGHT (should have already been on an airplane) so I had an 8:30 pm Sunday scramble to try and solve for the gap. The only upside is that my VP is a big believer in "comp time" so I'm counting the two hours of "work" I was doing yesterday and very early this morning. I will also have about 2 hours after-hours next week that I'll add to it to get myself a free half-day.
candreco , partner work is the worst. I'm still dealing with flaky partners not doing their part in my MBA program.
Right? I want her to learn to push back on this kind of nonsense now because it never really goes away. She actually included screen shots of the text in her email to the teacher- show those receipts, ma'am!
I don't drink tequila. I haven't since I was 21. Last night, I got caught up in Cinco de Mayo festivities and had ONE margarita. I feel like garbage. Heading out on my lunch break to take a walk and hopefully walk off my hangover.

The People's Court is gold today. It's a shoddy, peeling paint job on a car. Yes, that's a man with maaaybe a loin cloth on riding a Pegasus. No idea how that judge is keeping a straight face and asking serious questions.

If you were wearing a coral cocktail dress to a rehearsal dinner (with a black floor length dress with multicolored embellished flowers for the reception) what nail color would you choose for a manicure / pedicure?
I’m thinking either a dark shade of nude / beige or a gun mental gray.
candreco I am SO happy she filled you in and didn't just try to deal with it all by herself. What a little shit that kid is! I would definitely have some follow up talks about standing up for yourself and how it was not her responsibility to carry the weight of this other kids poor planning.
I'm so tired. I got back from London Saturday evening, but my bag didn't make it on my flight. That night we had storms so I didn't get a lot of sleep. Yesterday was rough. My bag did get on a flight yesterday. I have an AirTag in it so I can see it's at the DFW airport. I called and they said the fastest way to get it would be to go this evening and just ask for it. So. That will be fun.
My dad gets in tomorrow evening and is staying with me until early Sunday. I love him, but he's so exhausting. I'm really dreading it. I need some more alone time.
Today's a day off in the UK, but it's raining like mad, so doing nothing. Bah. At least we had fun last night at a bbq.
Is this one of those “bank holidays”? I admit to not *getting* a bank holiday. Like, I guess it’s my US-centric upbringing that holidays are for things. And Lordy, I could use a random holiday for no particular reason, other than sanity, between Presidents’ Day and Memorial Day. But are they really just days off y’all get for the sake of a day off?
