I think I may have posted before about our CO trip.
We have it planned for a few days in Boulder and then YMCA of the Rockies. We are going early June.
I was thinking of horseback riding, just an hour trail ride. Generally I am an up at our person, but would we be better temperature wise to wait until afternoon?
Similar question for a train ride in Georgetown, later rather than earlier?
I wouldn't be worried if it were DH and I, but I worry about the kids. They are teens, but sometimes that is worse!
As long as it’s sunny, it should be fairly warm first thing in the morning. Sun vs clouds makes a huge difference in the air temperature here. I probably wouldn’t go horseback riding mid afternoon because it will be hot, but otherwise wouldn’t think too hard about time of day for those activities. I’d just do what works best for you.
You should all pack layers regardless. Tees, pull overs/hoodies, jacket.
Just be aware sometimes we get storms/rain in the afternoon, especially in the mountains. You might be better off planning things in the morning so you don’t have to worry about rescheduling due to weather/lightning. Have fun!

To emphasize - CO mountain activities, in general, should be completed by early afternoon. This includes hikes. It's not so much the rain you have to worry about, it's the lightning.
You're staying at our favorite place! DM me with any questions about the Y
I normally schedule our horse back rides for the morning since afternoons are often rainy when we are there late spring/early summer. I'm assuming you're riding with Jackson Stables based off where you are staying - they book up quickly so book your ride as early as you can. In my experience they are flexible on changing times but you don't want to get stuck with a ride you don't like.
I hope you have fun. I agree that morning is good, less chance of things getting canceled for lightning. But early June can have weather anywhere from snow to rain to heat. I would expect to be wearing jeans and hoodies. Maybe also some gloves if you will be doing an activity with your hands out. You'll have a better idea when the time gets closer and you can get a better weather prediction. It may be hoodies in the morning and tank tops in the afternoon.
