wanderingback, our dentist also works with kids. They said age 4 is fine for their first appointment unless you have issues. We waited and it was fine. I would just wait until next enrollment, personally, since she is so young.
Well I have multiple dumpster fires but I just quit everything to watch Hacks. I love this show so much. It just makes me happy. Last show o felt this way about was Younger so I am so happy it’s back on tv!
ETA - both shows have in common that women of a certain age are reinventing themselves. I feel like that should tell me something.
Ooh, I hadn’t heard of Hacks but it looks like I’d enjoy it! We’re just finishing Girls5Eva, which is really funny if you haven’t seen it yet!
wanderingback, my dentist wouldn't even see DS until 3.
TR, I took Paxlovid and felt so much better within 12 hours of my first dose. I felt pretty shitty though. It does taste like garbage and I used Jolly Ranchers to mitigate that. Might be worth trying if you can easily get it.
I am done with our first round of my school's state testing and done commuting 45 min each way this week. I'll have to go for 2 or 3 days the week of May 20th also. It's amazing how tired it makes me, having to get up an hour earlier everyday and make myself presentable and talk with people. I cannot wait to hide in my home office tomorrow.
I kind of want to take a nap now that I'm home but can I nap in daily contacts (I am new to wearing these)? I probably would be asleep 20 min or less.
It blows my mind how intuitive dogs are. My dog has started to sense when I am going to have an asthma attack and will come and lay on me. If I’m in bed, he will lay his head on my neck.
ssmjlm, I saw a meme on FB about the Atlanta airport that was something to the effect of The designers of the ATL airport were like, you just got off a flight, now how about you run a quick 5k to get to your next flight?!

I nap in daily contacts. When I wake up my eyes are often dry and the contacts feel rough, but squirting a little solution or eye drops in my eyes fixes it if blinking a few times doesn't. I would for sure nap, and if the contacts are uncomfortable for the rest of the day, take them out because sleep > wearing contacts all day for me.

I hate family stuff. My aunt texted me while we were oot on spring break asking if there was a time I could stop by any day to pick up Christmas gifts she and my grandma had for my kids. We used to see them on Christmas, but my other aunt was the one who hosted, and a few years ago her husband died on Christmas morning after about a week in the hospital after a heart attack, and she hasn't hosted since. I have asked my dad (this is his family) if my grandma and aunt would want to come to any of the stuff we host around Christmas, and he always says no, and we are not invited to the Christmas dinner my grandma has (I asked my dad if we could come one year and he thought the extra people would be too much for her, she is 90). I also told my aunt that she and my grandma don't need to buy gifts for my kids when she texts me every year to ask what they like, but they do anyway (my aunt lives with my grandma and doesn't drive, my grandma still drives but probably shouldn't anymore). So I've texted my aunt and offered to stop by 2 different times now, once with the kids on a weekend, and they were 'busy' with grocery shopping and stuff, and now again today while I was out running errands, and she didn't respond (she works from home). I feel bad that I haven't done this yet, but I figured they would want to see the kids, but it's hard to find a time when both kids are free. If weekday afternoons aren't good either, then I wish she would just give me a time that is good for them.
And plus also, my SIL texted dh earlier this week with 2 options for brunch for mother's day (I love that she takes over planning this). Dh responded that we preferred option 2 because option 1 is where we went last year and none of us liked it and service was terrible. But apparently other BIL texted that they prefer option 1 because of the timing of option 2 conflicting with his kids' swim lessons. So SIL responded to both saying option 2 wasn't available at the time BIL wanted, only other time than the time she sent was 4 PM, so let her know if we wanted to do that instead, or if we wanted her to try to find another option. That was the last I heard about it (dh may have responded but our schedules are not matching up this week and the few times I've seen him I forgot to ask him). But now I need to add in plans with my mom at some point, and ds asked if he could do something with his 'girlfriend' (they are recently official) this Saturday evening, and I had to tell him we had to see if we had family plans with my mom first. I am tempted to text SIL myself and ask if we have definite plans yet, but I also don't want to bother her while she's working or be like 'hurry up on these plans that I had no hand in making' because I suck.
I hear you expectantsteelerfan. I still have my mom's Christmas present because they were going to come visit but it was a blizzard. Then, she scheduled herself 4 trips in a 5 month period and was sick between 2 of the trips. I've invited her to come and offered to visit but she had medical appointments and then the time we could come she was traveling again. Many of these are rescheduled from 2020 Covid shut down, so I understand, but I haven't seen her since Thanksgiving. Luckily my in-laws are no issue lately. My mom told me once that she couldn't call me because she had to grocery shop. I wasn't aware that grocery shopping is an 8 hour all day thing. She complained at Thanksgiving that we have a texting relationship, so I started calling more almost weekly and I don't think she called me at all, maybe once. It is difficult working with that generation because they have lost some of their resilience so to them grocery shopping is a big deal.
If your library was having a learn to crochet meet up at 3 pm on a weekday tagged as for adults, teens and seniors but also as “afterschool” (and “arts and crafts”) would you think it actually was open for adults? Or just kids?
I did ask last time I was at the library but it hadn’t started yet (it’s new and will be weekly) and whoever was in the branch that day didn’t know.
I don’t want to put on real clothes if it is just going to be 12 year olds and me!
ETA; I feel like my branch normally has adult activities at night/weekends but I know others have them at all sorts of random times.

That’s my recommendation. Unless you are going for a specific issue I would just wait until next open enrollment. I took my DD at 18 months and they counted and brushed. I waited until 3 with my 2nd kid.

I would think it was open for adults, but would MOSTLY be attended by tweens/teens. I would hope they would be welcoming to anyone who wanted to learn to crochet/practice, but as this is dd's new favorite hobby, I have since noticed how popular it is with her age group, so I would be prepared to possibly be the only adult there.
I am taking a brief break from work-working in my dad’s room at his house while he naps. I asked him if he’d like to nap or talk about what the hell I “someday” should to do with his property, and he said “nap!” Ha.
His oncology appointment yesterday got us started, and calmed us all down a little bit, but I know the road ahead is going to suck (likely stage 4 pancreatic cancer which we just learned about last week). Trying to be grateful for the present, the quiet with the others gone on errands, my dad still here, and me with him. It’s rainy and cold outside, and kind of a perfect afternoon for just such a thing.
I had to go to the dentist this morning for a crown prep appointment and now my mouth is throbbing. It's been a few years since my last crown and I don't remember it hurting this much. Thankfully it's WFH day. I might have to steal one of my kids popsicles.
I need to get back in the mood to read, that stack on books on my table is getting too high!
My dad thinks I should get Paxlovid. I sent a message to my doctor asking what she thought and her PA wrote back that the dr is out sick today, but she made me an appointment for 3:45pm with the NP and I'm like, "Ok, I don't want to come in, I really just want you to tell me I don't have to take it because I'm not high risk." I just don't know that the side effects and chance of rebound are worth it. But maybe that's dumb. Someone tell me what to do, my brain is done thinking this week.
Not a Dr or in the medical field, but I guess I don't see how its worth it. Everyone seems to get side effects and change of rebound is high. So if you aren't high risk, I don't know how much it helps?
(FTR I've never had bad covid, had it twice, but both times was one day of being really sick, then just a cold)
I took it, zero side effects, and I went from feeling like death to feeling pretty much completely well in 12 hours.
You only hear the people with side effects complain. The rest of us are just happily better.
I'm surprised at all the dentists that don't see kids until 3 or 4! Everything we saw/heard, including from the pediatrician and I believe the ADA, recommended seeing a dentist by 12 months or 6 months after the first tooth erupts. For various reasons, we ended up not taking my son until he was about 20 months, and thought we were late. Those of you who went later - how old are your kids? I wonder if recommendations have changed?
At the first appointment, they counted and did a cleaning (not just regular brushing), and confirmed no cavities. They also recommended flossing between some of his front teeth since they are very close together.
That being said, wanderingback, I wouldn't stress about delaying until you can add your daughter via open enrollment!

Its for teens and adults. teens would still be "after school." Where i work teens are 6th grade + regardless of actual age.

I'd be afraid the cold would make it throb worse! Sorry to hear you are in so much pain.

Truly random today.
I am wearing my new vionic ballet flats and they feel like clouds on my feet. I played a long three set tennis match so you wouldn't think my feet would feel this awesome. So happy with these new shoes b/c usually ballet flats are not comfortable for me. Plus they are black so I can wear them all the time for work.
Made a turkey reuben for lunch and have had this a few times this week. Making thousand island is so easy and I don't want to buy it since everyone else in my family doesn't like it. Just a tbsp. light mayo, tsp. sweet relish and tsp. ketchup.

I'd assume mostly teens, but really open to anyone. I'd put language like that in my knitting group postings to make it clear that absolutely anyone was welcome. Also, if this doesn't work out for you I will totally meet up somewhere and teach you.

That’s what I kind of expected? But in a twist I just saw on the system’s Facebook page a picture of another branch’s crochet club that meets during the afternoon and it was all adults and maybe one older teen.
3 pm doesn’t really line up with schools getting out near there which threw me a little too.
I guess I can just suck it up and go? I was looking for a distraction!

Thank you! I did figure out some basic stitches and did some basic stuff but now I want to try granny squares and I’m not sure I’m up to it!
I have done fuck all today and I don't really care. Well, that's not true, I finished two embroidery projects and hung them on the wall. And did prep for the next project I'm starting. That's all.

In my anecdotal experience in talking with other moms, the pediatric dentists want to see them early. The dentists wjo will see kids want them to be old enough to somewhat follow directions - age 3 is what I hear.
Some of our local pediatric dentists will do the first exam for free because they want to get you as a patient so it may be worth calling around. But I think you are probably fine to wait until open enrollment the next time around as well.

If you have the basics down you can do granny squares! I assume you figured out the double crochet stitch? If nobody's told you yet, UK crochet terms are different than US terms, so check your pattern/instructions before you start. US UK Slip Stitch Single Crochet Single Crochet Double Crochet Double Crochet Treble Crochet ETC

I was wondering if the “adult/seniors” part was a mistake since all the other afterschool tagged events (craft and otherwise) are clearly just for kids. I don’t want to look like a creep lol

Yes! I have a book that has patterns using both terms but I feel like I need a person to tell me what to do. Granny squares seem so square and exact!!
rhian, Mine were embarrassingly old when they went to the dentist for the first time. Like 10 and 4. I have a ton of trauma and anxiety around the dentist and I couldn't do it. I told H a long time ago that he needed to be the one to take them, and with his ADHD it just took forever for him to make the first appointments. As far as I know they didn't give him any grief over not bringing them in sooner. Not that he told me at least, though knowing my history he may have left it out deliberately. Neither kid had anything requiring a follow up, though they'll both need braces eventually.

That's about 33% experience in keeping the tension right on the yarn and 66% using a blocking rig to make them all the same.
