The Southern Lost Cause myth has been such a cancer on this country. It frustrates me to no end that a harder line wasn’t taken against the symbols of the Confederacy as soon as the war ended. So stupid to name schools after a bunch of (literal) losers.

This is so gross, but the most horrifying part is googling the name Ashby and learning about Turner Ashby.
I live in Northern Virginia and our street name has "Ashby" in it and now I'm curious. Our neighborhood was built in 2005, so thinking it's a coincidence but definitely going to investigate.

We used to play Turner Ashby HS in sports. Those kids were always really mean, and more than once they shouted racial slurs at my teammates.

Yes! The same people I see bemoan participation trophies call it "erasing history" to change the names/get rid of statues of people who were on the LOSING side of a war 160 years ago. This fucking baffles me.
