Update- President of Iran dead after helicopter crash

I initially saw reports of a "hard landing" but now it appears that they don't even know where in the mountains the helicopter went down.  Weather and darkness hampering search, but they may have picked up a heat signal.

They are saying they are in contact with 2 of the 9 people, so it's "not severe"
was originally flying as a set of 3 helicopters

How awful. The Foreign Minister was also on the helicopter with him and died along with 6 others. There were 3 helicopters in the convoy.

Sorry, I meant it seems awful to die in a helicopter crash and I know there’s a lot of concern about even more instability in the Middle East. I don’t know much about those who died. I’d like to understand more about what this means for the people of Iran.

This sounds like the plot of an episode of “Homeland.” I’m not sure if there actually was one but it sounds so familiar.

With all of the volatility in that region, this incident could easily upset an already touchy situation. Especially if people blame Israel (which they will). I wish I could confidently say that it was an accident. Given the weather and the terrain that seems like a likely cause, but it’s hard to be sure.

that was my initial thought, that it wouldn't take much to ignite any already delicate situation. Israel will be blamed. The us will be blamed. No matter how unlikely they are at fault

That is 100% what I thought too. I just looked it up, and it's similar to season 8 of Homeland (except that was about the president of Afghanistan).
