My weekend was good, despite a few speedbumps. It started Friday at DD1's school. Each year the seventh grade class has a swing dance competition as part of their PE grade. It's not mandatory, but they have to do it in order to earn the highest grade possible as part of their dance unit. For YEARS (like 40 years) the protocol had been for boys and girls to pair up on their own for this. Thus, a grade was first and foremost contingent on agreeing to dance with someone of the opposite gender. (Read, popularity contest.) The day before the competition, DD1's class convinced the teachers to allow girls to dance with girls and boys to dance with boys - for the first time ever. I'm really proud of her classmates and appreciate the PE teachers ability to get with the times - although this should have been done YEARS ago. DD1 and a female friend took second place in the competition! A boy/girl couple who had multiple weeks to practice, not 24 hours of agreements over snapchat, got first. I'm really proud of DD1 and her friend
Saturday was softball. DD2's team doesn't keep score. She had fun and got two hits. Yeah!
The buzz kill was DD1 having a meltdown about missing her socks - which we found in my sock drawer. My mistake, but WHY the meltdown? A teammate lent her a pair of socks. Nevertheless, she was in a bit of a funk for both of her games. Sigh...
Sunday was better. DD1 had her final club volleyball tournament of the season. At the last tournament, the team did....meh. DD1 got little playing time and the morale was generally low. This time, all the girls got decent playing time. They won 4 of their 6 matches, including a few against older girls and everyone was happier. DD2 had a birthday party. It was a beautiful afternoon so the girls at the party played outside while the parents day drank...or so I heard since I was with DD1.
This week will be normal....perhaps a little more mellow since we no longer have volleyball practices. Just softball and a band performance.
We had a pretty nice weekend! Dh went to the beach house to get a few more things done before this weekend. Friday evening DD2 had a soccer game. DD2 played almost the entire game as this team never has subs. Then after a quick change in the car, I brought her to a school dance. I ran home, grabbed some dinner, and went back to pick her up.
Saturday morning I took DD1 shopping for some things for camp this summer. We got home at around noon and DD2 was still sleeping! Clearly she's worn out... I brought DD1 to a friend's house for a sleepover, then DD2 had another soccer game with the same team. This team usually plays other local towns, but the league placed 2 of our town teams in the same division, so DD2 played against most of her club teammates on the other team. DD2's team lost 2-1 but it was a really fun game despite miserable weather - rain and 50 degrees.
Sunday DD2 and I ran to pick up DD1 and her friends, and I brought them to play rehearsal. Picked them up, then DD2 had her last regular season club game. She played a bit more than usual since there weren't many subs, but her team got destroyed 5-0. Poor DD2 has not had a win on either team this spring. I figured out that her club team has scored 5 goals TOTAL this season, and DD2 scored one of them. And yet, she sits on the bench. Very confusing.
This week will be crazy. I'm supposed to be wrapping up at work, but I'm feeling very anxious about that. The kids' play is tomorrow evening. DD1 has a final for one class on Thursday, and she opted not to bring home any materials to study this weekend. This means that she will be screaming at us on Wednesday evening when her anxiety ramps up. She has already told me that it's my fault for not reminding her AGAIN to bring her notes and book home. DD2 has soccer tryouts Wed and Thurs for next year's club team, which is always nerve-wracking. DD2 has a game on Friday evening - her last game for her town travel team - and then we'll head to our beach house for the weekend. DD2 has a tournament nearby, so 4 games over Sat and Sun. There is a possibility of a championship on Monday, but there is just absolutely no possible way that they'll make that game based on the way they've played.
Beautiful weekend with some time spent by the lake for a birthday party.
We leave for Canun tomorrow!!! Probably around 4am to catch our early flight. I can't wait, but ready to get this day over. I'm working from home, so I'll have some time to pack. But my normal pre trip anxiety is kicking in. Do I have everything, will the flights go ok, air travel seems like a hope for the best these days.
It is going to be another quiet week at work with me waiting for payrolls. I'm getting really frustrated with my clients waiting until the last minute to send me stuff and then getting pissed off because I'm taking too long. My dad is also off for most of the week due to his bathroom remodel, so the quiet days just get to me.
More state testing this week and DD is so stinking happy to go to school. We opted out of testing, and she is spending the classes that state testing is happening in at the elementary library working. She is the happiest kid and the library staff already are requesting her to work with them all year for 8th grade community service. They are talking about having her run the library programs for the elementary classrooms next year to give her something new to learn in the library. Now why do you need a master's degree to become a librarian?
Science project take 2 made her data even more confusing because this time her hypothesis was correct because she actually found liquids that had a PH of 7. Now, she has way too much data for the $ store tri-fold board so she needs a meet with her science teacher to find out if she can make a bigger tri-fold board. We can get cardboard from DH's work but I don't want her to get in trouble for having a 5ft tall tri fold board as this project makes up 90% of the 3rd trimester grade.
The weekend was solid. I spent Saturday with my BFFs catching up and it was perfect. One of them was running a booth at a craft fair, so we all just hung out at the booth all day catching up between customers and hanging out. Then I went on a bit of a shopping spree at Home Sense to deal with some organization projects that have been pushed to the bottom of my to-do list. I spent all day Sunday working on those - cleaned out the bathroom closet/medicine cabinet and reorganized, cleaned out the pantry and reorganized, got a bunch of laundry done. It felt so good! And it feels like some stress has been alleviated because we can open our cabinets and know where things are. Last night I grabbed dinner with another friend to catch up and got some awful news. Her exhusband (it's complicated, we're all very good friends still, including the two of them) has stopped all his treatments and started hospice care at home. His cancer has just spread too much and he's tired. I am just as close with him and have been touching base with him every few days but he never said anything. She said he's pushing everyone away and doesn't want people to see him like this. So it's a messy, sad situation. Their daughter has been best friends with the girls since they were 3 and our families do a lot together. It sucks.
This is going to be a busy week. Lots of end of school year stuff, I have a leadership meeting that I'm dreading because of how the last one went (aka another manager got in my face and yelled at me that I was wrong and refused to work on my projects), and it's the girls' birthday! DH is getting them hermit crabs. I am not super on board, but he promised DD2 in a moment of weakness while she was so sick. lol
I need a weekend from my weekend. DD plays up in soccer because we have a 2013 team with 3 2012 girls, so they play 2012. The girls they played for the tournament looked like high school freshman or sophomores. They lost the first, tied the second, and the third we had so many injuries that we ran out of players and eventually just forfeit so there wouldn't be more injuries. Things like allowing them to kick the ball when the goalie was on the ground which would be a red card in professional, an elbow to the nose causing a nose bleed. We had 4 injured girls out at one point. I took DD to Starbucks after and got her set up on a heating pad and then took her shopping for summer clothes, but I do feel bad for her, she was banged up because she was down and then a player fell on her back.
Overall it was an OK weekend, but I hope we don't go back to that tournament again.
waverly, it makes me so crazy when the refs don't call this stuff. You want the kids to play, but when there's a risk of injury like that, I want to scream (and sometimes I do...).
Friday evening, DD2 was going up against a kid that was literally a foot taller than her - no exaggeration. The kid had her hands around DD2's waist, pulling her away from the ball. DD2 is strong, fought back, and the other kid literally picked her up and tossed her to the turf. No call. I was vocal. I keep my mouth shut when it's teenagers refing, but this was a grown adult missing those calls.

It was a great weekend. DS did an amazing job in his first play and the other kids were great too! Auditions were on Monday with the traveling theater company, rehearsals all week after school, and then two concerts Saturday. Beau and I tried the new Indian restaurant in town after the play and then decided last minute Saturday night that we were headed East of the mountains to go riding on Sunday, so we spent the evening getting our gear ready.
Sunday we were up and on the road just after 7am and made good time to our favorite riding spot 3 hours away. The snow was gone from the lower trails and volunteers had already cleared trees and branches from them. We tried to find a new camping spot with cell service for when we take our trailer for a longer trip, but ultimately decided to continue camping where we always do and periodically ride to spots with cell service to check in case of emergencies at home. We worry with our parents aging. Overall it was a fun ride and nice to get some sun since it was raining at home.
DS is at a "mountain school" with his whole grade today through Wednesday, where they stay in cabins and learn about the mountains, watersheds, and do a bunch of hiking. I'll be excited to hear how that went when he comes home Friday from his dad's. I have a bunch of catching up to do with errands, such as a big trip to Costco. We'll also head to Beau's son's house one night after work to see his week old granddaughter.
We had DS's end of season soccer extravaganza, so two games and a pizza party. They first game we played had a similar record to ours (AKA, they had no wins under their belt, while we had one), and we were doing great until DD put into the universe that DS's team should lose so that the other team could experience a win, after which we lost in spectacular fashion, and no one cared, but the other team walked away with a win and were so excited, so she was kind of right. Their second game they did better and were SO close to winning until the last five minutes. DS played keeper, which is unusual, until I realized he was just really tired, and I was right - poor kid was gassed.
DS was up all Saturday night coughing, DD was up Saturday night crying because her ear hurt.. so Sunday was VERY lazy, minus DD and I heading to urgent care, where in addition to her inner ear infection and ruptured eardrum, she came home with a diagnosis for an outer ear infection too. She spent the drive home crying, and then crying more because crying hurt. Thankfully she seems to be on the upswing today, but her ear is still bleeding and groady. DS on the other hand is coughing about once every other second... yay end of year cold!
We had quite the weekend - DD's team won her flag football championship on Friday night and then her all-star softball team won their tournament yesterday, winning all 5 games they played this weekend. She has been playing multiple sports for the 3+ years since COVID, and has never won a championship before, and then goes to two in one weekend. She got championship rings for both of them. So that was very exciting. She didn't hit very well in softball this weekend, but she did get to play catcher quite a bit, including most of the championship game, so it was nice that she got to contribute.
She also had a basketball game Friday afternoon and DS2 had his last baseball game. DS1 and I went up to the hotel where DD and all the softball people were staying for the tournament and had a nice time at the party Saturday night.
DS1's teacher had told the parents there was a dance performance for his class at 9 am today, so I had put it on my calendar, but then last minute DS1 told me he didn't care/didn't want anyone to go because he thought it was pretty boring/wasn't into it. So I left that on my calendar and took my time getting out of the house to the office today. It's cleaning lady day, so took me about an hour to pick up the house so it can get cleaned well. But will be worth it when I come home to a clean house.
waverly , it makes me so crazy when the refs don't call this stuff. You want the kids to play, but when there's a risk of injury like that, I want to scream (and sometimes I do...).

DH talked to the ref who was like goalie is a hard position to play, but still didn't call it. It's hard to watch them just let it happen when you know it's a red card for the professional players. Our coaches were also talking to the refs and when they still weren't calling the elbows etc. the coaches were like F it, we have 4 hurt girls we are leaving as a team.

We had a split weekend again as ds1 and Dh were out of state at a race while ds2 and I were home. Ds2 got I bc it’s to guest play for two other teams in his club so he played 2 soccer games Saturday. I managed to get a lot done around the house and watch Bridgerton so that was a win. I did all the laundry/dishes/organizing junk basket/drawer, went through both kids’s clothes, donated a ton, went through their miscellaneous treasures box in the playroom and got a bag full to donate, went to Ross and found some good finds for them for summer clothes, and made the guest list for ds2s bday party and got contact info for everyone. Oh and I helped ds2 get his walkie talkies working so he was thrilled about that.
Ds1s race was pretty bad with multiple crashes but he’s safe and had a good time and they made it home by 11pm last night which is a huge plus for school this week as it’s going to be busy. He qualified for the “big county” track meet in all three of his events and has 3 soccer practices and a tournament this weekend so he will need his sleep. Thankfully he seemed to be caught up on homework when he got back last night so fingers crossed we survive this week.
