Ties into the ongoing discussion of "we need the government to act" but not liking the consequences of the government acting, and how people will try to get around this.
FWIW, the cost difference isn't enough to get me to drive to WY or Greeley for gas. I'd waste gas money trying to drive to cheaper gas.

Is 50 cents really even a spike? For peets sake people. Chill out. I realize that's my privilege talking but I feel like gas fluctuations like that are pretty normal regardless.

I actually went looking for this story today because someone in my office was complaining about the gas prices, and saying it was all Polis' fault. The whole thing got a giant eyeroll from me.

My coworker was complaining about the gas prices being more expensive than where I live and said it was because of the democratic governor of the state where I work. Except the state where I live also has a democratic governor and lower gas prices. 🤔 I don’t think that’s how it works 🙄

I was just in Colorado last weekend and commented on how cheap the gas was. Even with a $0.50 increase it would be $1 cheaper than what we are paying here.
Our metro area is split by a state border, and one state has lower gas taxes. Many folks will drive somewhat out of their way, locally, to get gas on a regular basis.
The cost difference is around 50-60 cents/gallon. Which is enough that I'll fill up if other errands take me to that side of the metro and I am below a half tank, but not so much that I'll waste the time (and gas) on a special trip just for gas.
Increasing the gas taxes is an unpopular thing everywhere. I don't think there is much getting around that.
