Nothing amazing but nothing bad. All month I keep running into books with unexpected elder care/health decline/major health issue plot lines and it’s not relaxing! Even in what looks like a generic “thriller” type book.
The Plus One by S.C. Lalli
Dearest by Jacquie Walters
Gone Tonight by Sarah Pekkanen
Private Equity: A Memoir by Carrie Sun
The Woman on the Ledge by Ruth Mancini
When We Were Silent by Fiona McPhillips
I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue
A Share in Death by Deborah Crombie
QOTW: my husband’s birthday is 29th so sometimes it’s on Memorial Day or that weekend so sometimes birthday stuff but most often crabs
I’m rereading Sourdough by Robin Sloan, which is weird and fun.
No big plans for the weekend. It’s graduation where I teach, so that’s the only thing I do every year. We’ll have a cookout with family and otherwise just enjoy some extra days of peace during this crazy busy season.
Last week I finally finished The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo. There wasn't really anything objectively wrong with the book but I found it really hard to really care about the characters or plot.
I also read An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris, based on a friend's recommendation. I really enjoyed it and found it a much quicker read.
This week I had two flights and a train trip so I've done a lot of reading.
I finished Slayers, a Buffyverse audible. The plot wasn't particularly good but many of the original actors did the voices so it was still fairly fun.
The House that Horror Built by Christina Henry was enjoyable but I expected something more from the author.
The Hunter by Tana French was also a good read. I'm hoping the series continues.
Now I am reading Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher, my new favorite author.
QOTW: I'm up in CT visiting family, like I do almost every Memorial Day weekend. We have a cottage that we open this weekend. It's usually a lot of work but my BIL got there ahead of everyone else and may have got most of it done. I'm bringing him a bottle of gin as a thanks!

Finished Fathomfolk and it was fine.
Read A Ship of Bones and Teeth. I didn't think I was going to like it after the content warnings, but I ended up enjoying it even with the gratuitous gratuitous sex.
Listened to Into the Drowning Deep which was a great thriller.
Currently reading A Song of Silver and Gold which is a Queering of the Little Mermaid with the mermaid being a siren and the prince being a princess who is also a siren hunter.
Currently listening to Chlorine which is a coming of age story about a competitive swimmer.
QOTW: What are your plans for Memorial Day weekend? Are they something you do annually? no plans this weekend, which kind of is our annual thing. With the end of school it always sneaks up on me.
QOTW: We are moving. Not something that we do every year, but it has been every other year the last couple of moves. Hopefully, we stay put for a while this time.
I really enjoyed these three this week: Sipsworth The Woman on the Ledge The Guncle Abroad
QOTW: I went to an art show/food truck fest with my mom, and we swam in our pool for the first time this season. It’s supposed to be rainy for the rest, so we’re going to see Garfield today with some of the kids’ friends.
