Truly how do I look my kids in the eye and encourage them to stay in this state as adults?!
Our family has been here for 175-ish years.
We don’t have a family history in our state (Iowa), so I realize it’s a lot different…but we’re encouraging our kids to essentially plan to not live here after college. We’ve told them that if they (2) end up living near each other, we will likely move to within driving distance of them, and if they live far away from each other, we will move somewhere near an affordable airport.
We’ve considered moving many times, but we’re trying to lean into the “be the change you want to see” for now, and not lean into the privilege that we could just pick up and go almost anywhere. It’s HARD, though.
If it weren’t for the fact I grew up moving a ton, we likely would explore it. But I promised I’d keep my kids in the same place for their childhoods for all sorts of reasons.
