Related, why are people driving their vehicles through the floods? Do they not know how engines work?
My former youth pastor took video of pickup trucks with water washing over the hoods. It's probably a similar mentality to people who think they can drive in a blizzard because they have 4wd, although at least that won't destroy your engine as long as you don't wreck.
A year ago, same region, same massive flooding, same videos. "Once-in-a-lifetime"

FL is often a dumpster fire, but there are people who couldn’t get home tonight or who have a home that is underwater. The rain is expected to continue through tomorrow. While FL man and woman tend to lack common sense, there are people here who are trying to fight the good fight. I’m the first to roll my eyes at Florida, but you may want to reserve judgment until after the weather event has passed. My neighbors who are still recovering from hurricane Ian don’t deserve to have their house flooded because they couldn’t afford to move out of FL.
There is water everywhere. And flooding everywhere. And water damage everywhere. And it’s still raining.

It happens all the time. People simply aren’t thinking. In the stress of the moment, all they can think is, “But I HAVE to get to X.” A lot of people lose their ability to think rationally in an emergency situation. Add that to not always knowing how deep the water actually is, so they think they can make it through. A lot of people have no idea how little water it takes to trash a vehicle. They think things are up higher than they actually are.

Oh god. My dad was a lifelong mechanic, smart man, has common sense, etc. and I worked many years in insurance auto claims that pays claims when people do this and their car is totaled.
To this day, my dad still argues with me as to why insurance pays for idiots who drive their cars in flooded roads and how insurance shouldn’t pay for this type of behavior.

Who is judging anyone other than from not following simple disaster management. Don't drive through flood waters. End stop. This is how you drown. Driving through floodwaters is the stupidest fucking thing people can do.

At least fort lauderdale is so ridiculously flat, and the only real moving water is in the canals, so you don't get the crazy fast moving flash floods. Still, you'll total your car.
Oh, and desantis slashed the budget for water removal infrastructure the day before the rains. Yes, that's not a long term solution, but it certainly should look bad for him. It won't but should. Miami-Dade and Broward counties are reliably blue overall, so I'm guessing he doesn't really care.
