Something I definitely did not know before today: "Fire boxes in Boston are essentially telegraphs that send a signal in Morse code when triggered. They do not use telephone systems."

I've never been to Boston before nor heard of the fire boxes.
I think it's genius if they are still in use... i wouldn't think they would be hackable.

The area I live in is named the same as places in MA. I guess some people got alerts that the system was down here.
They sent out an alert that said, ignore that last alert. But, surveying the room, no one I know got the first alert.
Yes, strong work whoever sent out the emergency alert to the entire state of Maine to disregard the first emergency alert that most people didn't even get. Lol.

Perhaps character limitations preventing the preface, "if you happened to get the alert sent at ~ ##:##, disregard. All 7 of you. The system is back up. If it goes out again, use the red fire boxes for emergencies."
It’s pretty funny when everyone’s smartphones go off like crazy and the message is to use this ancient technology lol
I had no idea they actually still worked! We have them all over here in Quincy.
I grew up in Wollaston and can picture one on every other block. I’d literally let out a “phew” when I’d reach the one with the box! I had no idea they weren’t connected to the telephone line. And jokes on me that I assumed they were tied into E911. Guess not.
