DH has a 10K, I am not sure if we are expected to go and support him because the last 10K he didn't make us go because it basically is us sitting around for an hour waiting for him.
Then we have a concert Saturday night, and Sunday we take the kids to sleepaway camp.
I have no camps planned after July 27th, and the kids have 2.5 weeks of nothing so I am not sure what the plan is there. Plus I had to use vacation time or lose it for vacation rollover, so I don't have a ton of vacation time to take off in August. So I guess just rot their brains on screentime? They start school August 15th. DH is back to the office 3 days a week although he is averaging more like 2 days a week, so hopefully they are just home alone 2 days a week.
DD has a friend over today. All three kids are currently in the pool, hanging out. Tomorrow DS has his ninja class with a new teacher. I’m not super enthusiastic about that. If the new teacher is the one who was filling in, she was TERRIBLE. The class is made up of a bunch of boys who are kind of crazy. She had zero ability to control the chaos.
Sunday we are supposed to leave to go to Houston for a goalie camp for DD. I don’t know if they even have electricity. So that’s something.
We’re at the beach, just me and the kids. They each brought a friend. We’re just chilling and even though it’s raining, everyone seems to be having fun. I’ve read three books in the last two days. I love summer so much and I want to move here.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
We got back from our trip almost a week ago and I am finally mostly unpacked, have laundry done, and groceries (and like the basic stuff we were somehow out of like laundry detergent and dish soap). I go to a work conference in park city next Monday-Wednesday and then fly to Boston a week from today, so there is plenty of packing coming up again in the near future. I’m already feeling like summer is almost over!
We are getting a nice tax refund so I’m using half of it to book our flights during our Fiji/New Zealand/Australia trip over Christmas. I had booked flights to Fiji and home from Sydney, but not the four internal/between country flights we want to take during the trip. Of course I should be using my last kid-free hour to finish work stuff instead.
This weekend the kids are going to play some softball and basketball games. DH and I have a date night Saturday night - it’s been a really long time!
erbear, I want it to rain where I live! It's been so hot and dry. I spent today with my sister, who lives about 45 minutes and 30 miles south of me. It rained briefly in her town and it was such a relief.
Tomorrow morning, DH and I are doing a longish mountain bike ride.
DD1 has been at music camp all week. My confession: it's been a relief not to have to deal with 13 year old drama and moodiness We go to her concert and pick her up tomorrow evening.
No plans for Sunday yet. I may make a few meals and bring them to my sister. She's undergoing chemotherapy right now. She resists help with housekeeping. I noticed not a ton of real meal options when I was at her home today, so I'm thinking some pre-made meals would be helpful.
I got DD room all painted. It looks good but oh my body hurts. Plan is to put her new bed frame together on Sunday and get all her stuff out of the living room.
186momx, Can you share pictures? We need to make some upgrades to DD2's room and I need some inspiration. We need to add a wardrobe and desk/shelving unit to her room. Her room was built as a bonus room, not a bedroom, so.....
We got to Houston. But first, in my infinite wisdom, I decided to try to fit DD’s mouthguard with her braces. Big, massive, horrible mistake. It stuck to her brackets and took over 2 hrs of holding hot, wet cotton balls to the mouth guard to get it to let go of her braces. Omg. It was awful.
So I’m glad we are here safely and with no other insane issues. Here’s hoping that’s the end to drama this week.

That’s crazy. We don’t play sports that require mouthguards so I would have had no idea how the interact with braces.

Yikes! Do they not make braces specific mouth guards? I hope she's ok.

This one said it works for braces. It also said it should be fitted by a dentist. I figured that was just for the warranty. NOPE! It’s because the dentists put something over the brackets to make it not stick to the brackets.
I have now found mouth guards that don’t require molding and work with braces. So we will be buying those!
The really annoying part is she wears a helmet with a full face guard so probably doesn’t even need a mouth guard. But tournaments require a mouth guard and we were worried camp would too.
Please let me know if you find a good mouth guard that works with braces. DD has to wear a mouth guard for flag football (no helmets) and she’s getting braces on in a few weeks.
sdlaura, Shock Doctor makes one that doesn’t require molding and is for braces. It gets very good reviews. So that’s what we are going to try next. My recommendation is don’t get one you have to boil/mold. Because if you do, every time their teeth shift from the braces, you’re going to be back getting it molded at the orthodontist again.
