BQ: Question inspired by one asked by a Black cycling influencer I follow on IG. Would you rather be a rotisserie chicken in summer (ie do you prefer heat) or a Popsicle in winter (ie prefer real cold)? Spoiler: She said popsicle. www.instagram.com/faith_irv_rides/ for anyone interested in following her. She's hilarious!
Fri - rest Sat - 5 mi long run, step back week Sun - rest
I swear I ran another 10+ miles earlier in the week, lol. Weekend synopses catch all my rest days
BQ: oof that's a tough one. Generally I prefer to be a rotisserie chicken vs. a popsicle. I deeply hate popsicle hood. But this summer is freaking testing me. I think I'd be doing ok if the sun rose just a lil later, which would help me get more miles done when the sun is lower in the sky. Yesterday I started my 5 mi. run at 8am and deeply regretted my choices. OTOH, I think I'd have had to be up like 2-3 hours earlier for it to have made a significant difference, which is tough. I also think I'll handle the heat better with more electrolytes vs. just water, which is what I brought yesterday.
Fri: 30 min Pilates reformer. 1.5m walk w/dog Sat: 22 mile cycle, road and trail mix. Sun: not much as of yet, but hope to go on another ride when the sun comes down. BQ: it’s been so so hot here. I’ve lived in both climates, currently live in hot climate, and I prefer popsicle. You can gear up and be comfortable but when it’s 100°+ no amount of gear or nakedness will make you comfortable. Even the pool feels like bath water.
Fri: played with dogs Sat: 5 mile run - haven't done that since Feb. Didn't want to cut my feet off either. Sun: a lot of cleaning
BQ: I'm not sure. I haven't run any longer miles when it's been really cold, but i tolerated 3-4 well in the super cold. My mileage is starting to go up now, and I am not loving the heat. I started at 7am on Sat and was wishing I started at 6:30 - just to keep the sun lower in the sky. The humidity is just claustrophobic.
Cycling is a bit different than running. We usually start around 8:30-9:00 in the summer. We are generating a little bit of our own wind.
Cyclist here, too. When it gets to 100°+ actual and 100-teens feel-like, it doesn’t matter. It’s hot wind on you. You have got to be home before 1/2p when the peak of sun is up. It’s miserable.
BQ: popsicle no question. I’ll take 30 degrees over 90 degrees any day. This summer is killing me. New England isn’t supposed to have this many 90+ days this early in the summer!

Add in the humidity here in GA, and it's horrible. You do get used to it, though. But yep! Off the bike by about 12:30 pm if it can be helped.
I did not swim as planned on saturday because instead we installed tile, and then it was midafternoon and I couldn't face the idea of the outside even to get in a pool. But sunday - long run, 2 hours. started at 5 am, but so sweaty in th eheat/humidity/soup we looked like we went for a swim. Just DRENCHED head to toe.
BQ - From my answers above, maybe obvious that I'd choose popsicle all day every day. I do love summer activities (open water swim! boating! SUP! actually biking outside!) but to run? COLD COLD COLD.
I'm leaning towards popsicle. I ran at 6am this morning, and it was 72* and 92% humidity. You could've literally wrung me out when I was done. And that wasn't even with a lot of sun.
BQ: Heat, for sure. I don’t LOVE the super hot heat and humidity, but the super cold hurts my whole body. In the summer, I just take it slow and bring water/gatorade.
