Our weekend was a bit rough. We had a concert Saturday night and then Sunday had to do a 8 hour drive round trip to drop the kids off at sleepaway camp. But it is done, and we are kid free until Friday. I didn't sleep well when we got home from the concert, and I did not sleep too much better last night because we had 2 hours of loud thunderstorms. I was very tired on Sunday.
I'm feeling basically back to normal now. We made it through two weeks of house guests, covid sweeping the family, and the services for our friend who passed away. I'm so incredibly proud of my girls and how they handled everything. They sat on either side of their best friend for the services and literally held her the entire time. The level of support and protection they were clearly trying to surround her with was amazing. As upset as they were (he was like a special uncle to them) they put that aside to support their friend in the moment.
DH and I had the house to ourselves all weekend and just spent the time relaxing and resetting. I read an entire book. We meal planned and grocery shopped and cleaned up the house. It actually feels good to be back to a normal routine with work today. My brain needs it.
Today is our one year wedding anniversary! Since we don't have the kids, DH and I are going to drive over to the beach and grab dinner on the water. It's super hot out, but we're hoping that the ocean breeze makes it feel cooler.

Our no plans weekend got a little crazy. Saturday DD2 had a birthday party and it ended up lasting all day. Meanwhile, my best friend convinced me to take DD1 to old school night at the roller rink. DD2 wanted to go too of course but by 10pm she was faceplanted in her ice cream.
Sunday H took the girls to visit his family. I sat this one out and instead caught up some on cleaning and laundry. They were delayed driving home by a storm so they didn’t get home until nearly 11. Getting poor DD2 up for camp this morning was a challenge, but it’s an indoor science camp so she should be fine once she gets going.
This week it’s just science camp for DD2 and hanging around for DD1. She has a couple of friends who have invited her over, I have some chores for her. Work is pretty standard this week. A friend and I are hoping to get together Thursday for a patio drink and kid play date.
I'm exhausted. We had the best weekend trip to distilleries and wineries. We stayed in the cutest little town in an air bnb. We ate at a historic tavern from the 1800s. We went with 3 other couples who were laid back and fun. We don't drink much from distilleries, but some of the guys are collectors. I did find some nice wine to put in my rack for winter.
But Dh was getting over his cold and snored, so I didn't get enough sleep and am exhausted today. Thankfully, the only real thing I need to gett done today is lunch with an old coworkers to dicuss a chance to partner on a new program.

We met some guys from Ireland who were passing through who were fun to talk to, and seemedto be samplingevery beer in the place.

We are back after being on vacation for about 1.5 weeks (but we both worked a bit during vacation... which is fine... meant we kept up with everything). Friday we spent the day with friends at the beach. The kids had a blast and the adults did too! We didn't get home until after 6, so we didn't do much Friday evening. Saturday was a mad dash to do the lawn before a huge storm rolled through. Then we cleaned the beach house top to bottom - I did all of the laundry, cleaned out the fridge/cabinets/pantry, etc. and packed the car to head home. Got home around 6pm, then unloading, putting away, I had 2 loads of clean laundry that I did before we left, etc.
Sunday was my niece's 2nd birthday. I got to see my BIL for the first time since his diagnosis and surgery. He looks great, he's back to running 5-6 miles a day. Mentally I think he's struggling a bit, as would I, so I think that the running is really important. He needs more scans and a lumbar puncture, but he starts radiation probably next week or the week after. I think that's when the chaos will start since he can't drive. His college age and recently graduated kids will be home for part of that, but they'll need to head back to work/school soon. We will jump in at that point.
I'm trying to get caught up on work, but one very necessary system is down until Wednesday... so work will continue to pile up until then. DD2 is in soccer camp for 1/2 days this week, and this is DD1's last week at camp. We have a call with her today. So I'm hoping to jam most of my work into the morning hours, then let DD2 do whatever she wants in the afternoon.
We had one weekend at home between several weekends away. DD guest played in a couple softball games Saturday morning and then both older kids had basketball games yesterday. Otherwise I tried to get us together for the next few weeks.
I’m on a plane right now to a work conference in park city. I won’t complain about getting to stay at a fancy hotel, but I won’t get to enjoy it much since the next 48 hours are packed with conference sessions and networking cocktail hours and dinners. And my CEO is also going to this conference, so I feel like I have to be at all the things. I’m speaking on a panel tomorrow afternoon.
Then I’ll be home for two nights and then I fly with the 3 boys to Boston on Friday. Tonight and tomorrow night I’ll be in an amazing suite by myself, and then Friday night in Boston I’ll be in a very regular room with two queen beds with the 3 boys - wish I could switch those The boys and I will do a duck boat tour in Boston midday Saturday and then drive down to pick up the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. The rest of my family flies from Maryland and has a later ferry Saturday. Then DH and DD will fly out and meet us Monday after the softball tournament.
The following week is 5-night sleepaway camp for the two older kids and DH comes with me to a conference while a babysitter stays with the two little boys for 3 nights. This is all fun stuff, but I’m already missing my bed. It will be a challenge to keep up with work stuff through all of it!
ETA- I was given a probably 1500 square foot hotel room with living room and kitchen and two bathrooms, and a balcony where I could host a huge party. Why can’t I ever get this sort of room when traveling with my family??

We’re back from camping with my parents and a long weekend trip to the Oregon coast. Everything went pretty well minus Beau’s grandson getting on my nerves and tons of traffic from our weekend trip. I still have this week off but Beau has to work, so DS and I will do staycation things.
sdlaura, have a great time at the Vineyard! The weather has been hot around here, so should be perfect for beaches and outdoor fun! We were so happy to be out of terrible heat last week - it was so much cooler on the Cape and Islands!
DD room is almost all done. She was moving furniture pieces in today and we have some things on order like floating shelves, new curtains, and a couple decore items. It looks really nice and I'll try to post a picture when I get home.
I also bought a new bed frame that has an actual headboard/footboard for myself. Our king size bed has been on the standard free metal bedframe that has been broken and propped up by wooden blocks for years. So, after getting DD's bed together we cleared out our room and did your bed. It looks good and I slept good last night probably because I was exhausted from the multiple crappy nights of sleep plus the physical labor.
Full work week for me. Hopefully client are timelier on getting me payrolls than they did over the 4th of July week. I don't know how many times I have to tell these 4 clients what our hours are and no matter what they still call at 5pm or later and get pissed that we aren't answering the phones. Next week both dad and I are taking opposite days off so we can have long weekends. Dad on Monday and me on Thursday.
