Objectively, this speech started out a good speech. “We must not criminalize dissent” was a good line. And attempt to bridge. But like the 10:30-11 portion. I thoight it was going to be a new trump. But, he just couldn’t hold it together and then his true self emerged. Also, I had the first part in the car om NPR driving home from something. This is so much more infuriating on TV.

I don’t think he was a MAGA or even an R (someone can confirm). I’m seeing that the wife was a D until very recently which fits. Also that he was never Trump until he wasn’t. These 2 used those smart Yale brains and realized it’ll be easier to get into power if they join the dark side so they did.

I have not read the book, so cannot offer my personal perspective, but there are a bunch of links in one of these threads detailing why it’s so bad. Basically, he’s a liar, is not from Appalachia, and trashed all the people who live there for not pulling up their bootstraps like he did. Also, he evidently grew up in a nice house and his parents made good money, so not entirely sure what bootstraps he used anyway.

I did not watch. He makes my ears bleed. But it sounds like he went completely off the rails for 90 minutes. I will be watching to see if the media runs with it for the next three weeks like they did with Biden’s arguably far less unhinged debate performance. 👀👀👀

Not just power but money. 

I figured it is presumed they all have money. But yes, my theory is the only reason Rs have been willing to overlook that there are some brown people trying to infiltrate at the top is because they're not poors. They’re also very highly educated so they can’t call them dumb. Their parents all followed the rules when it comes to immigration so they can’t use that against them either. All they have is racism against their skin color and only some of them are bold enough to come out and say that is the sole reason they don’t want them.

I saw a video of a panel of undecided voters who watched it and gave their feedback. They said it started out ok and totally went off the rails. They are concerned about democracy if Trump is elected and concerned about another January 6 if he loses. Neither are a reason to vote for him!Hopefully they were convinced to take the time to vote against him. Unfortunately a lot of voters don’t watch any of this and only see clips on social media or biased news. The benefit of this election is that Biden is the active president and will do things to stop an insurrection or prevent it with intelligence info.

I think I mentioned in another thread that pre-2016 I could never watch Idiocracy because a couple minutes in it always seemed so stupid I couldn’t stand it. Once there were election comparisons in 2016 I decided I’d watch it, but couldn’t bear to while Dumpster Fire was in office. I finally watched it a couple months ago. Now people have posted side by sides of the movie and the RNC. Hulk Hogan’s speech was nearly identical to Terry Crews as the president (the part with an AR at the end). Our reality is worse than Idiocracy, though, because the R political party doesn’t just have a low IQ, they are evil and glorify fascism.
