I bought myself vegetarian egg rolls from my favorite Chinese place, am drinking wine (and took an edible two hours ago) and just donated $46 to Harris.
I'm struck that Biden didn't tell anyone until yesterday, and then finalized everything today. Including telling Harris today.
If you believe some of the interviews with him, as recently as a few days ago he was set on being the nominee. I agree that it was smart to wait to announce until after the RNC.

As recently as Friday he was in. Both CNN and MSNBC are reporting that literally no one knew he was going to drop out until late afternoon yesterday, and most didn't know until late this morning.

I am quite certain that conversations with Jill helped him make a decision on this.

And forced time out from almost everyone because of covid.

You know, I went back and forth on this in my brain. But I have had wine and since ActBlue had $46 as the choice, that’s what I went with thinking “how symbolic!”

But now I am not sure lol.
Biden is the 46th.
They have 46 still there probably because the act blue link still says “Your contribution will benefit Joe Biden.”

Ah well. I’ll donate $47 next time. This one is in honor of Biden.
Before the last 9 months, I would have said Biden is fundamentally a good man.
But I cannot say that now. He is funding and arming a genocide. His choice of words when discussing Israel and Palestine are so incredibly racist and shit.
At the end of the day, politicians listen to the money. They know it’s their ticket to power. Biden is no different.

The comments about what a great man he is are disturbing to me
I feel like the dems have finally leaned into the spectacle of this all (this being what our politics have turned into). I’m excited to see what will happen. I hope this leads to a Dem victory!

The way he has handed the genocide has been - for me - the most disappointing and infuriating part of his presidency.

*I haven’t read all of this post yet
and that’s it - we need y stop freaking out and get excited. We need people to believe this is a good thing.
In January 2019 my mom, my eldest and I went to downtown Oakland to hear our future president announce she was running. I look forward to being back there this November celebrating her election.
Only five years after she started.
I was a little shocked at first, but I just re-posted from when I saw Harris in 2019. I was so excited then and I feel that now too. I just donated for the first time this election season. I hope others feel the excitement I do right now.
He is brilliant and lovely and could take anyone in a debate. I won’t be mad if she picks him. Just not as confident that we will win.
I love me some Mayor Pete but I think she has to pick Josh Shapiro. Pennsylvania is a must-win.
I wonder if that’s why Shapiro endorsed her so fast? A lot of people were pushing him to challenge her. Maybe he made a deal?
My personal favorite choice for VP is Whitmer. She would do well in Wisconsin (and Michigan, obviously, but that’s a little less swingy these days than WI).
I’m sad this is how it’s ending for Biden, but I fully believe that Kamala is our ticket to a win in November. We weren’t voting for a past president, we’re voting for who we want in charge in 2027
While yes, it would have been great for them to make changes 18 months ago, I really think that something has changed quickly with his health in the last 6 months.. I think he has a great team around him, and even if he is declining quickly, I’m not concerned about the months ahead…but I think the only wise decision was for him to essentially retire. I think we will learn a lot about what’s really going on in February, after he’s out of office. From my professional experiences, it wouldn’t surprise me if he thought right up until the last minute that he was 100% capable of being president for the next 4.5 years. I think a lot of people in the DNC have been making alternative plans for a long time (they’re idiots if they haven’t been!), but no one could say anything other than “Joe Biden for President” as long as he continued to say he was in the race.
It might take some people a little time to grieve what they hoped would be, but then it’s time to get up, brush ourselves off, and win this election!
I think amazing things are ahead for our country. Harris 2024.
I also think the idea that we didn’t have a democratic primary is utter bullshit.
How many people were on your Democratic primary ballot? My options were Biden and No Preference. 12.73% of Dem voters in NC went with the No Preference option. I know some states had 1 or maybe 2 other options, but there really was not a legitimate challenger. I assume anyone who realistically had a chance was strongly discouraged from running. Many people voted for Biden because they had no other choice. Not exactly a great example of the democratic process.

He is the incumbent and no one ran against him. People could write in their preferred candidate. For the past 44 years this is how it has worked.

I would hate to lose Beshear, but he has been an amazing and unifying force for KY, and I think if we don't see him as VP, we could very well see him as a Presidential nominee in the future.
I would love Whitmer or Buttigieg, but I don't know that either are the wise choice in this situation.
This is, of course, assuming that Harris is the shoo-in. Which, 🤞. She was my choice back in 20.
I haven’t been here in so long I didn’t even remember how to log in at first, but I am so excited about this and feel cautiously hopeful for the first time in ages. I am a huge Kamala stan and have been since SF DA days. AND I say this also as someone who was LIVID that the party turned on Biden so quickly after the first debate. That said I am a little agog at how exited I am. I think we can do this? 12 hours ago I thought we were toast. Let’s do this.
