Yea, this could be a big thing. At first I was leaning towards just locking in Pennsylvania, but if there are issues with his Stance in Gaza, that could lead to some sitting out the election.
Good thing I’m not a political strategist. This is pretty beyond me.
I mean, I’m voting for Harris no matter what. It sounds like she wants to be tougher on Israel than Biden has been and I’d like it if she had someone on her team who also supports that, but I know there is a lot of strategy that goes into making the choice.
OH absolutely. I was just thinking of during the primaries when some groups were voting keep it blank ballots.
As a Minnesotan, I would be sad to see Gov. Walz go, but he'd be a great choice.
I’m not sure if he has enough national appeal but I love him!
Does the VP pick have to have national appeal? I know we’re in unprecedented times but I feel like as long as you don’t pick some one disastrous like Sarah Palin like it’s ok if most "regular" people haven’t heard of the VP pick.
On a personal front, I’m hesitant about Shapiro because of his school voucher support. I don’t know much about the list in general, but I’m voting Harris no matter what
I'm surprised not to see Beshear on the short list. Maybe they don't want to take away a D gov in a southern state. If that's their reasoning, I can't argue with it.
You can pry Beshear out of my cold dead hands! Also I think in the wider picture he’d be more useful to the party as a whole running in the election to replace Mitch when that happens. He’s super popular and about the only person I can think of with the level of appeal to flip the seat.
I was at a soccer game tonight and Gov Roy Cooper did the coin toss. There were TONS of cheers for him. And this is in a purplish area where tons of people from the redder parts of the state travelled to see the game. I think NC is fired up at the thought that he might be VP.

If Cooper becomes VP, what happens to his governorship? Does it automatically go to the republican Lt. Gov?

His term is up this year, and he’s term limited, so he’s done as governor at the end of 2024 anyway. You don’t have to resign office to run as VP. The LT Gov is running and he’s an absolutely batshit crazy nutcase so I hope the Democrat, Josh Stein, can win. Otherwise I seriously fear my librarian sister in NC is getting locked up.

It cannot be overstated how incredibly horrible the lt gov is. In a party of awful, he's among the worst.
I like Mark Kelly, for absolutely no other reason than when I heard his name, all I could think of was the badass ticket of Kamala and the Astronaut from Arizona sitting on a cool $300 mil. Think of the merch!!

Since Cooper is SO popular (even among Rs — he won governor as a D in the same year that the state as a whole went for Trump), I’m hopeful that having him on the Presidential ticket might draw enough voters to the polls to keep Robinson from winning.

I even read (I think in the NYT), that if Cooper is out of state campaigning, his Lt. Gov. runs the show in NC. I can only imagine what stunts he might try to pull.

It blows my mind that the Lt Governor is a different party. Our governor and Lt Governor run on the same ticket like president and vp. Are they always different parties in NC? Like the winner becomes governor and the other party becomes Lt governor? That seems wild to me.

I don't think Cooper is that popular. I am in very blue Charlotte. Can't think of anyone that actually likes him -- of course in Charlotte we always think we get the shaft from Raleigh. I call him milque toast as he has no personality. I actually don't know that much about him because he is pretty non-existent in our part of the state. I also don't think we need two people on the ticket that have both been state attorneys general and essentially worked in government their entire lives. I would like to see some different experience. But I do think he is high on the list. Kamala has been in NC a bunch of times this year already.

No, Lt Governor is a different role altogether and you vote for that office separately.

I didn’t know his take on school vouchers. They’re VERY quickly destroying our public schools in Iowa. If he is chosen as VP, Harris will still have my vote, but it’ll take a lot of wind out of my sails. Public education support is incredibly important to me.
Vouchers are a big issue in Wisconsin, too…and we need to win there.

AZ has a HUGE issues with school vouchers, and I *think* they’ve been working to reign it back in. Kelly also help fund food for schools in AZ, so another plus in my book for Kelly.

I remember this happening in mt a few years ago. The lt really bent things to take control. I wish I remembered the details

He does pride himself on being a KY boy - I agree about putting him in Congress, too. I'd hate to lose him as governor but can see him going on to bigger things since he's in his last term (sob)!

I haven’t been in NC very long, but I know in VA the Gov and Lt Gov run separately, so sometimes they’re the same party and sometimes they’re different. Blows my mind that people would vote for one party for Gov and the other for Lt Gov.
Sorry folks there's just no competing with the astronaut.
There is nobody I can see disarming the right more.
I can just picture JD Vance shitting himself with fear right now over the idea of getting on a debate stage with Kelly.
Also his wife was shot in the head by a right wing lunatic, which will help the democrats campaign on gun violence and right wing violence, while making it harder for the Trump campaign to use the ear incident.

I read this article last week and lost a little more faith in humanity. Who thought it was a good idea to give people who can already afford private schools a voucher.

Mark Kelly is literally what little kid me would have dreamed up as presidential qualifications. Military, astronaut, senate, amazing husband to his wife.
Mark Kelly is my pick. There is no love for Shapiro in my rural, red corner of PA. He's not going to flip those voters, but I can see a few of them lining up for Kelly. There are a handful of people who don't like Trump, but still don't want to vote Dem. The military/2A stuff would be the only topic that could sway them.
We're also talking about a very small number of voters when compared to the large urban centres in the state. If Shapiro will get the job done in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh the rural areas don't matter as much.
I've been a Kelly fan since day 1. Military, Astronaut, strong on gun reform (which is a winning issue), can counter balance trump's assassination attempt, wholesome dude, hopefully helps us get AZ.
I heard Beshear's name tossed around & was surprised he wasn't on the list. I think she' have to make an announcement in the next 2 weeks before the "virtual" roll call.
I want to give her time to do proper vetting- I know this was all very sudden, but I can't wait!
This is neither here nor there, but in Seoul, SK, there was a giant mural of Mark Kelly on the side of a building in my neighborhood. He was in his space suit, holding his helmet and it said “Mark Kelly, American hero”. It was not advertising any product in particular, just a random mural of an American hero. I walked past it every day on my way to the subway and always thought it was just so random. It’s on the road opposite the former US military base which is where the office of the Korean president has been relocated to. So when Biden was in Seoul, his motorcade drove right past the mural. And the Korean presidents office looks out at it. It was always so random.
Does anyone know where we can see what the potential VP picks’ stances are on the genocide? That affects my personal opinion on who I want.

It’s so important. They need Michigan. Michigan has the highest counts of Middle Eastern peoples outside of the Middle East. They have been very clear that will sit this election out.
