I wonder if she has him in mind for another spot in the administration, like AG? Which makes me wonder, how much of Biden’s administration do you think she’ll keep?

I think he may be more open to that since he will no longer be governor then.
NC Gov. Cooper opted out of Harris VP vetting, in part over worry about GOP lieutenant: AP sources
“WASHINGTON (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper opted not to be a candidate in Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate search in part due to concerns that his Republican lieutenant governor would try to assume control if he left the state to campaign as part of the Democratic ticket, according to three people familiar with the matter.
Cooper confirmed in a statement Monday night that he would not be a candidate to be Harris' vice president, saying he was “honored” to be considered but “this just wasn't the right time for North Carolina and for me to potentially be on a national ticket.” The governor, 67, withdrew from contention well before Harris' vetting process began and never submitted the requisite material, according to two of the people. All three spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive search process.”
Just saw on CNN that Gary Peters is now on the list. He’s the junior senator from Michigan. Strong on labor. But does anyone outside of Michigan know who he is?

GOP lt gov have absolutely done this. It is a very fair consideration. I think it was ID or MT where I'm thinking this happened fairly recently. Gov leaves the state for whatever reason, and lt gov swoops in and does a bunch of harmful shit even in a short absence.

It is sad that it is an issue. I do not trust the NC lt gov at all, so I can understand why Cooper does not want to leave the state. That was my biggest concern about him as the VP option.

Honestly- I’m inside of Michigan and barely know who he is.
Honestly I think unless you have someone VERY in to politics they aren’t going to know most of the people. You have a few very vocal people in Congress (though most are MAGA) and a couple well know Governors but I think most people aren’t going to know someone from a state that they aren’t connected to.
I have switched to Tim Waltz being my #1 pick. He is a fantastic communicator. He would be really great on the campaign trail. Again my only hesitation is I feel bad plucking him from Minnesota. :-)

Most Americans probably don't even know their own state government officials.

If you need to feel better about it, read up on Peggy Flanagan. She'd be taking over for him. 😉

Okay, if I can't have Big Gretch, I want Walz. He seems funny and lefty, and he's from Minnesota, which is almost as good as Wisconsin.
I understand why Shapiro looks good on paper (Pennsylvania, etc.) but I really hope they don't pick him. He's not as strong on abortion rights, which undermines our whole message, and he's said really shitty things about anti-Israeli-war protestors.

OMG! I KNOW HIM!
My close friend was his campaign finance director for one of his House races. I've met him before! He's very nice!

I think I agree (and I'm from PA and know him from his very early days). I like Shapiro, I think he's doing a good job in PA, but he is too moderate for me (which is why he was able to win here so easily).
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

What makes you say that? I wouldn't want him to be picked because of his stance on school vouchers, but I haven't heard anything bad about his stance on abortion.

I take it back--I was under the impression he had done some "compromising" with abortion opponents in the state house, but I can't find any legit sources about it (just gossip from fellow activists), and his gubernatorial campaign was pretty good on it. So I apologize, that was a bad take on my part!

It was Idaho. Little seems to be a normal(ish), old-school republican that a guns/bible/truck republican Lt gov stepped in and did a bunch of COVID exec orders that he then un-did. He beat her in the next governor's race by about 20pt.
Has Kelly been seen or heard from in the past week? I keep seeing Walz and the Pritzker and Mayor Pete, but I don't think I've seen Mark Kelly.

I’m from MI so I might not be a good judge but I have always noticed that he seems to get a lot of spots on the Sunday morning news shows. Perhaps ‘nobody outside of MI is noticing, but he does get a lot of screen time. He is most known for being very VERY pro union. I know that is a concern of the Harris campaign. Biden is loved by the unions and gets a lot of support from them. There is concern that Harris won’t automatically carry that vote over so this might be a good strategy. Peters would garner votes from all of the rust belt swing states, not just his own state.

Gabby Giffords was campaigning in MI for Harris this past Sun and Mon. I figured that must mean he’s still in the thick of it.

I'm in MI too and I feel like I hear a lot about Peters. A big hesitation for me with picking him is that Stabenow is retiring, so then we'd end up with two new senators in the same year. I really like Elissa Slotkin and hope she wins Stabenow's seat; due to her years in the CIA and two terms as a representative she's not new to DC and politics, but I'd still rather keep Peters.
I’m just here to say how much I love MN and how I’m so glad to be Minnesotan (minus the 11 months I was a ND resident 😉). It truly is such a wonderful state and we have done a lot of good for the residents.

I was just telling a coworker that if he becomes vp he’ll be the most famous person I know because I’ve met him twice. He probably wouldn’t remember me but I did.

Well, and also that Mastriano was a horrific candidate.
The one thing I know about Gary Peters is that he came out and told the story of he and his wife needing to TFMR when the Dobbs decision leaked, so he would definitely back up Harris’s abortion bonafides.
