I'm seeing it a bit later, but it was wild to see the rebuilding of the Notre Dame as I was there when it burned (we were on a bus tour and could see the flames - I definitely cried at that).
So many gorgeous things happening during this opening ceremony - so French, so unique!
did we miss Australia? I love all the storytelling, history/art, city tours included.
I think the camera work, angles, dances, and everything are amazing....
the rain is a bummer- i feel bad for everybody doing their best
Australia is 3rd to last as the host of the 2032 games. The parade ends with Australia (2032), USA (2028), and France (2024 hosts).
Thank you for this information. I thought I'd missed it which was really surprising since I'm watching on Australian tv.
I'm loving the breaking, bmx, skateboard cuts.
I found this explanation for minions. "While the “Despicable Me” franchise may be produced by Universal’s U.S. animation powerhouse Illumination, at the helm has been French filmmaker Pierre-Louis Padang Coffin, who co-directed four films and provided most of the iconic voices. In honor of this — and perhaps Illumination’s French tax rebate — an extended specially made Minions animation was shown in which they attempted various sports in a submarine (with predictably disastrous results)."
The pianist was beautiful. The first tune sounded Debussey, but not something I'm familiar with so I'm unsure. The second was definitely Erik Satie
