I’m taking DD to the outlets for school shopping so she can turn her nose up at me and scoff at anything I suggest, and she can return with a handful of crop tops and I say no and she can get mad at me.
Today is DS1's birthday, so I am taking a vacation day from work so that we can go to the trampoline park! I have way too much to do for all of my jobs, but I don't care today! Tomorrow will be taekwondo in the morning followed by catching up and trying to get ahead for work. It's going to be a hot and humid and rainy weekend so I don't mind being a sloth on Sunday.

How bout you!
Oh!!! I get to do this in a few weeks. It will be fun. I'm going to bring a flask of tequila instead of an extra coffee this time.
polecat8 I hope your son has a fantastic birthday!
This week was full. The Ds' camps were exhausting (volleyball and windsurfing). They're both glad they did them, but, wow!, we have grumps.
I was in a virtual seminar all week which was, likewise, mentally draining.
To top it off, we are with my inlaws in the PNW, so I'm working out of a bedroom and mitigating behaviors almost constantly.
The Ds are sleeping until they wake up today. I'm taking them to a museum for a few hours in the late morning and we go to a MLB game tonight. Everyone in the family loves baseball:)
Tomorrow I help the Ds get ready for sleep away camp. We are having a BBQ with FILs extended family. Sunday the Ds leave for camp, for five days.
I was hoping h and I could get away together a bit during this time, but we both have significant work to do, so that's likely not in the cards 🤷
DH and I are back from my continuing Ed conference/few nights without kids. It was nice to have some kid free dinners, but next time I go to one of these conferences and pay a babysitter a gazillion dollars for three overnights, I’ll find a conference that is not a full 8-4 everyday. DH goes to pick the big kids up from their 5-night sleepaway camp this afternoon.
I get to sleep in my own bed every night in the month of August - woohoo! I enjoyed all my recent travel but I’m looking forward to being home more. Just a lot of work day trips coming up.
My big Texas client that made me miss DS2’s birthday to go Texas and then made me go to Boston last minute ended up firing us (well, switching advisors, which means firing us) anyway. Got the news yesterday which wasn’t a surprise since we hadn’t heard much from them in a month. So that sucks. A significant piece of my comp is based on client retention. Luckily I have three prospects with finals presentations scheduled soon. The one with the highest likelihood is a bigger fee than the one we lost. So fingers crossed 😬
We luckily have a pretty quiet weekend with just a couple basketball games and a playdate and practice. Next week is our last week of summer! And DD gets braces on. Then back to school Tuesday 8/13 for everyone.
dglvrk2, I hope the kids enjoyed camps, and that they recover for a good weekend!
DH and DD1 left to go camping this morning. It was a ton of work to get things ready while balancing DD2's friend hangout yesterday and I'm really worn out today. My sister wanted to go to the beach today with her little ones, but DD2 slept really late and by the time we met them there, they would be ready to leave for naps. I'm finishing up my work, then I don't know what we'll do today.
Our weekend is pretty open right now, which is nice. It's supposed to be really warm, so maybe we will go to the beach? Maybe just stick to the pool? I'm sure DD2 will want to hang out with friends, which is fine. I might try to meet up with a friend at some point. It's nice to have no plans!!
We have the block party tomorrow. My mom comes today. I've gotten 7 emails plus a text message exchange on this party (eyeroll). Not only is it $50 but now I have to bring coleslaw and drinks for everyone including the kids. They aren't proving juiceboxes or water or anything. DH just bought gatorade so maybe the kids can take that, but kind of an eye roll that they won't even have water?
Not to mention I have friends coming that may or may not have RSVPed or paid, but I am leaving it up to the Lord at this point. I sent them the flyer and asked the friend's kid to bring $10, so IDK what else I can do. It should be fun once we are hanging out, but they have really annoyed me with the communication this year.
The kids and DH have meet the players on Sunday. I think I will stay home with my mom. We tried going to the Leagues game yesterday, parking and getting in was crazy. I just sat there and watched the heat lighning for 30 minutes. Finally, they paused the game at half time because in addition to the heat lightning we had an actual storm rolling in. Then we tried to drive home in the downpour. I wouldn't call it flooding per se, but huge puddles of water and trucks throwing enormous amounts of water onto our windshield. It was not a fun night. I'm glad we didn't wait for it to restart because it was probably a 1.5 hour delay.
I'm also planning to do school shopping and now I am going shopping to buy the coleslaw.
I’m taking today off. No plans, so I invited DS’s bff over to play and swim. I anticipate those two are going to drive DD batty.
DD needs to go buy a gift for her friend’s birthday. He’s having a party at a hotel with a water park. The party is 24 hours long. We drop them off Saturday morning. They’re going crazy at the water park all day, then she has family style hotel rooms, one for boys, one for girls, one for parents if parents want to stay. These people are loaded, and this is the first birthday the kid has spent in the United States, so they’re going hog wild. At first I wasn’t going to let DD stay, but a mom I trust is staying, so I relented.
DS has a busy Saturday. Ninja class, then parkour at a new parkour gym he wanted to try. For him, that is a lot of activity. Plus I’m trying to get him signed up for his free coaching session/evaluation for his esports team. The friend who is over has already started and loves it.

On one hand, I'm glad this week is over because there have been so many little frustrating things that have brought me down. But on the other, when I drop DS off tonight I won't see him for two weeks which makes me wish the week wasn't over yet.
Tonight, Beau and I are headed east to our favorite camping spot and ORV park. Beau's brother left this morning to snag a campsite and he'll stay until Sunday with us. We're staying until Tuesday. We're driving Beau's son's full size truck instead of his smaller Colorado because Beau wants to see if a full size would be better with our set up or if his truck is still adequate. His son's truck is a POS, loud, and the fuel gage doesn't work, however Beau's brother the mechanic says it's mechanically sound. I hope we don't have issues.
I'm looking forward to our weekend plans. DH and I are going to the city to see the new Gatsby musical. I really want to see it, but by the time I checked tickets, it was pretty expensive. But after hearing all my theater loving friends talking about, I decided to go for it anyway and buy tickets for my birthday gift to myself. It's a matinee and then we'll go out to eat after. DH is not really a big theater guy, but he'll always join me if I ask, so I hope he likes it!
Then I'm planning to get some more purging and tidying done around the house on Sunday. DH and I tackled a ton of random boxes in the basement that we never unpacked from our move a year ago a few weeks ago and it felt so good. I'm ready to keep the ball rolling and tackle some closets and cabinets that have become stuff collectors. We'd love to work on the garage next, but I think it will be too hot to be out there all day. We'll save that for a cooler weather day.
Yesterday at the Biltmore was pretty awesome. The house is amazing and the grounds way more extensive than I thought. Did some wine tasting ate good food.
We got a late start today because we all slept until 9:30. That is the latest I've slept since I was pregnant with Ds. We are not in a hurry, we are currently rolling into Charleston. Ds won't make it until later this afternoon. He had to get tires? Apparently he should have gotten them a month or two ago, and now one is flat. How he thought he was going to cross 3 hrs, 5 hrs and 10 hrs of driving in the next week on bald tires is beyond my realm of compression.
We don't have much of itinerary. Just go around and exploring. Maybe Folly Beach tomorrow. Sunday looks like scattered storms, so we may be darting in and out of the weather.
My BFF and her family are visiting her grandma about 3 hours from me for the next 8 days. She asked if we could come down and beach walk talk one day. I told her we were free the entire weekend. My fingers are crossed that grandma doesn't have them booked solid and DD and I can make a daytrip visit. God I miss her and she has been super busy so our communication has sucked since May. Fingers crossed it all works out.
The week was pretty busy work wise and next week will be hit or miss all week. 4 weeks left of summer break.

We had a wonderful day today. H and I took the day off and took the kids to a magnitude 1 spring out in the national forest. It was great. We swam over the spring boil, floated, ate lunch, swam some more, briefly evacuated for a small gator, snorkeled, ate some more etc until we were tired and it was too hot and then we got ice cream on the way home.
Tomorrow H has a thing in the morning. DD2 and I are going to go roller skating with her friend for the early learn to skate class. After lunch the girls and I will get some cleaning done and when H is finished, he will grocery shop on his way home. Sunday/Monday we will be getting the edges of a tropical storm so we will stay at home. H has plans to cook a big brunch and depending on the weather some friends might drop by.
I’m tired. I just took my kids and mom back to school shopping. I was talking to someone that I know and my mom rudely interrupts to ask when friends are arriving. It was so awkward. She later said I was trying to help you wrap up the conversation. Mom I’m over 40, I’m pretty sure I know how to wrap up conversation.
Then because my mom and DD are blind I had to find their items for them in their target bag. My mom forgot what her item looked like and kept arguing with me that it was a large item. Then I pulled it out and it was about 4 by 4 inches.
Block party next so I’m trying to get energy. I think I need caffeine.
waverly, I'm tired for you. I don't like shopping. Taking my DD1 shopping is not fun. Shopping with my mom is exhausting. Shopping with the two of them together would be a special level of he*$.

I hope the block party was fun🤞
School supply part was good. Then kids started fighting when I was chatting with my friend. I ended up dropping off my mom and DD at another store then dropping DS at home and picking them up. DD spent all her money at Sephora under my mom’s watch oh well.
Block party was fun but very humid out today. I got to see a lot of people that I hadn’t seen in a while. There is more to that story but I’ll leave it here for now. People amaze me. But overall the party was great!
