Here are the tiles - the horizontal second from the top for the shower, subway pattern on install. Floor will be the light gray.
Day 1, they found that the entire floor was rotted, so that's added a day and unknown $$ to the project. (I didn't ask since it isn't like I'm going to decide not to do it.) No surprise, really, because this all started because of a leak to my kitchen below. But the extent of the rot was a surprise.
Some extras to look forward to - It'll be a walk-in shower, full size, so I'm losing the closet and I will no longer be showering in the world's smallest shower box. And I'm doing a decorative row with the bottom set of tiles (three bumps), probably around shoulder height.

Wallflower, we're currently in the world's smallest shower box in our ensuite (there is no way to really make it much bigger at this point). Once in a while, I go and use our renovated bathroom one floor down and it's glorious. You'll love it!
End of week 1 - I had planned on a shelf across the length of the shower but once it was built, it ate up too much space. Thank GOD I have a great contractor who was totally OK with taking it out and redoing things. Much better now.
I like my bench but it does solidify that I do not want one downstairs, where I'm redoing the bathroom in plans for aging in place. You all told me but I wasn't convinced - it'll be much easier to help my mother (should she move in with me) if we use a movable bench that I can work around.

I think this is a good compromise -- more room and a moveable shower chair/bench I think is more useful for aging in place, but I do kind of wish I had a bench or at least a ridge/bump in my current shower for leg shaving! I might just put a garden stool in there for that. Do remember to put grab bars in at the planning stage for shower, toilet, and (if applicable) bathtub downstairs! They have to be framed out.
I see the accent, nice and subtle. I like keeping the same color and mixing it up with texture and finish.
I really lucked out with these tiles and all they offer. When I redo my downstairs bathroom, I'm doing the same shower/floor tiles but a different accent (3rd from the bottom in that photo).
Tiles in place and curing. Grouting to start tomorrow. For now, only the cats are allowed to walk on the floor, which is good because they had to take the door off the bathroom to do the tiling.
Bath and shower floor - I lucked out by falling in love with a tile that could match both floors. I was amazed at how many companies offer one or the other but not both.
The shower sill will match the door sill but there was a mix-up in the tile delivery so that didn't get done yesterday.
I'm thinking I'll have the vanity painted to match the darker gray of the sills. Walls still up in the air - cream to match the shower or a light gray. That lets me bring in any color I want in towels/rugs/art. Correction: The vanity is white. Painted, so if I want to change it at some time in the future, I can. With that, I think I'll go with a very light gray for the walls.
And for your amusement - Mulligan will hide while the guys are here. Yesterday, he got a little brave and came out of the basement but stayed close and kept an eye on the door. When one of the guys came back inside, he finally got to see a blur of cat (he hadn't seen him before). Mulligan can move fast when there's stranger-danger!
The grouting is partly done in the shower and I'm amazed at what a difference it makes!! And painting the walls starts today - Sherwin Williams Light French Gray (0055).

Well, I still need the glass doors, but that'll be about 3-4 weeks. And new blinds. And new towels (who knew purple towels would be hard to find?). But as of 12:30 today, we're done and I've taken my first shower upstairs since February!!!!!
