We're going with friends we haven't really hung out with in like a decade? So hopefully it's not awkward. I know DH isn't a fan of the wife, but I've been trying to encourage him to at least remain friends with the husband who he's known since they were kids.
So glad it's Friday. At least it should be pretty quiet for work today, so I can focus on a few projects. No real plans for the weekend, but hoping to catch up with a friend over FaceTime and working on my decluttering & organizing projects. The kids also need to get their school supplies together/organized as they have their open houses/orientations next week and can put some supplies in their lockers during the open house/orientation.
First real day of work in two weeks- last week I was in training, this week I was on vacation M-Th. I could have probably stuck w/ WFH, but felt like I needed the muscle memory of being in the office to get going.
Vacation was so good though. We just did a short one nearby this year due to various schedule we had no control over, but we got in some interesting history stuff, hiking, kayaking, river tubing, swimming off the dock at our AirBnB, and lots of relaxing, and had really perfect weather for all of it.

I am also glad it's Friday. It's been a week. I am looking forward to tomorrow evening when we are going over our friend's house for a cookout/crabs for a last days of summer celebration. I can't wait to sit around and eat lol. I was planning to treat myself to Dunkin breakfast this morning, but DH brought me Chick-fil-a on his way home so all I needed was an iced coffee. I'm crossing my fingers that work goes smoothly today.
I’m finishing packing for our trip tomorrow. Hard to imagine there’s only 2 weeks left of summer.

They're on a huge tour this summer and sell out huge stadiums. They have a lottery system and I somehow lucked out to get picked and we got tickets for tonight.

DS (about to be 12) had his birthday amusement park and sleepover yesterday so today is sending the boys home! Everyone had fun and no one was upset. The dogs have appointments today. At some point, we all need to pack for vacation because we leave on Sunday.
Tomorrow, I have a baby shower to attend for my cousin. Sunday and Monday, I have a viewing and funeral to attend for my aunt who passed away. I'm feeling very philosophical this morning. One life about to begin, while one life ended. My aunt was the sweetest lady I ever met. She was, almost by definition, a true lady. She was kind to everyone, I never saw her raise her voice, she carried herself with such grace. Her husband of 65 years is not doing well with this, understandably. My mom and I dropped off food yesterday, but I don't know what else to do to help. Luckily, their grown son (mid 50s) lives with them, so he can help his dad with things.

The past 3 weeks have been so stressful. Wes had emergency surgery for what ended up being an embedded splinter in his leg, Xavier dislocated his shoulder in a fight that some stranger teenager started and we’re still dealing with that. The police do not give one single crap about the fact that a kid punched my kid bc x said “do you like my outfit”. (I have told x stop doing that prior to this bc we’re in Florida, someone could shoot you for just looking at them wrong so mind your fucking business. Clearly he didn’t listen)
So we have $26,000 of medical bills so far and x still needs an mri and perhaps surgery. Insurance is a mess and I don’t understand the bills coming in so I keep calling and appealing and whatever.
Whoever I pissed off in karma land—I am forever sorry.
Oh and x has a girlfriend who went with us to his birthday dinner last week. She’s super sweet, I like her a lot but let me tell you how fucking weird it is to see him holding hands and her resting her head on his shoulder. I hope that doesn’t make me sound bad, I’m happy for him but it’s bittersweet to me bc I swear he was in preschool just yesterday.

Today is 100 days until we get married. As a wedding present I got FI a bottle of whiskey that I know he likes and wants, and had the bottle engraved with lyrics from our song. It turned out amazing and I love it.
I have so much stuff to do this weekend. I'm trying to get all kinds of stuff done before I start back with school and don't have time anymore. I also want some house things done before FI gets home from this current hitch. I'm going to finish the last of the wall painting on Sunday. That will leave some trim, but I'll have to save that for later.
We bought DS a basketball hoop for his birthday next week. It's been a multi day process putting the thing together because H had to purchase some additional wrenches (we could have borrowed from someone, but he wants to have them anyway), but it's finally done. We have to put 300 lbs of sand in the base though and the holes are SO SMALL and the sand was kind of wet so it wasn't just pouring in. It was taking hours. We got about 100 lbs in last night and just threw the other 4 50 lb bags on top for now lol. DS was out shooting at 730am!
I'm doing a half day of work then my mom and I are taking DS to the local amusement park. She loves to take him, I really don't care or want to go, but it makes her happy. I am going to need a few weeks off from family after today though, after seeing them all so much lately. No other plans tonight; maybe we'll make a fire since the neighborhood kids always ask us to, lol.
DS is sleeping at my in-laws tomorrow night with his cousins, so H and I are trying to make some fun plans since we have free babysitting. Then Sunday from 12-2 we have DS's 8th birthday party at the bowling alley, and then later on in the evening we have a back to school pool party to attend. Last weekend before school starts

It was the first week of (high) school for my two. DD came home Monday with a fever that lead to a positive covid test. She must have picked it up last week at freshman orientation. And by Wednesday I had my positive test. Round two for me,
She hasn't had a fever (or meds) since Monday, and her symptoms are 99% gone, so as weird as it feels- she's back to school today (with a mask- per CDC recs- but it still feels wrong!).
The district had an attendance initiative this year, so we have been getting form letters shaming us daily. That felt super.
We had our booster (and flu shot) last year before school started- sure wish we could have gotten this year's on that timeline.

That sucks cmeon, that’s what happened to us 2 years ago. I hope you all don’t feel too poorly. X’s high school is absolutely rabid about attendance so I’m super looking forward to their attitude about him missing parts of school bc doctors hours don’t GAF about school hours.

The concert last night was so much fun! I ended up not getting home until after midnight and then totally overslept this morning. I was supposed to be in the office today and I didn't even wake up until 8:30. Whoops.

Thanks, hammy! DD felt bad for a day, max- and I'm mostly better today.
I'm so sorry for your rough weeks- I hope X's shoulder feels better, that is an awful injury.
Stayed home yesterday, and that went pretty well! So glad I stayed home. I finally checked my work email this morning, as I’d sent my email and then just was present at home. Everyone was very kind, so that was a nice read/start to the day.
DH isn’t up yet, and I’m about to leave for work. I wonder if he forgot to set his alarm? I’m gonna wake him up gently, so he can go back to sleep if he truly doesn’t need to be up.
Long day ahead - catch up from being gone, then pick up the rest of the kids @ 7pm from camp, and the 1.5+ hour drive home. It will be great to have everyone home though!!!

The last 2 nights, the dogs have snuck upstairs while I was washing up and planted themselves on my bed, so I just let them stay. I'm back and forth on whether it's a good idea to keep letting them do this. Pros: for some reason I slept a lot better with them there, despite the room that two 90 lb dogs take up in a queen bed. When they aren't in my room, my lab starts carrying on by 6:15 to get up and feed them, but he doesn't do this if he's in bed with me, so far. In fact they seem surprised when I wake up at 7, like oh you're up early!
Cons: Fur. Lots of fur. One more level of home to constantly vacuum. More washing the duvet due to smell. If it becomes a habit, I'll never be able to have a man sleep over. Nevermind, that's a pro hahahaha.
I need to clean out the fridge. That is my goal for the day. I think I might go get myself Starbucks to kick off the effort. But, I did that on Wednesday and twice in a week is out of the ordinary.
Today is DD’s 14th birthday. We’re having three of her BFFs over tonight for a sleepover with pasta bar, brownie sundaes, cheesy musicals, tie-dying, and pop tarts in the morning. It’s just impossible to believe she’s 14.
This has been the first week at my new job. I didn’t get the password to log in to the computer they sent until Wednesday, and I really won’t have any training or meetings until next week. It’s been nice for it to be so quiet - I’m glad I’m remote bc I’d be miserable with nothing to do yet in an office. So far the only downsides are a) working on a Windows computer (I’ve been a Mac user since 1999 lol) and 2) half the team and the client are west-coast based, whereas I’m in CST. I imagine that will cause some hiccups, but my team lead sounds really understanding and flexible, so I’ll cross my fingers.

This is why the base of one of our patio umbrellas has a butter knife inside of it! H was using it to try and make the sand go in easier and dropped it LOL
pixy0stix, congratulations! Did you apply/interview for the landfill position or is this something different? Either way I'm excited you can move on from the current place!
