Today H and I are taking autistic adhd DS(8) to the movie theater for the first time; we'll be seeing the new Minions movie. Our local Parent 2 Parent program organizes events like this to be sensory and disability friendly. The lights won't all be off, the sound won't be full volume and it's just for those who signed up to come through the program so the theater won't be as full. Here's to hoping it's a great experience for DS so he'll want to go the next time they host this event.
Also, this will be my second movie in a theater since 2019. H and I used to go often before DS was born. I've found I prefer waiting for movies to come to streaming so I can watch on my comfy couch with the volume at a level I like.
macmars45, have fun! We’ve done quite a few of those sensory friendly shows. IMO, the best accommodation is that kids are not expected to stay quiet or seated as much. Kids can stim as much as needed. The reduced volume is also nice. My ASD kids will attend regular shows and just wear ear plugs. IMO, movies have gotten so loud anyway. Like you, I usually prefer my couch.
We’re headed out of town for the next 5 days. Leaving the city to go stay in the woods. I’m looking forward to quiet, hiking, pudgy pies, etc. The kids are at good ages (6 and 13) for this.
We’ve stayed in the same spot for the past three years. Last year the WIFI was out and a neighbor was having a tree cut down all week. Here’s hoping it’s quieter and we have internet. I had to walk 1/4 mile down the road for a cell signal.

2 cross country meets this AM, so DH and I had to divide and conquer. Got all my grocery pick ups this AM too. Next up is a friend bday party and then hopefully a relaxing day tomorrow.

Last night we went out for a drink and had two beers with dinner. I struggled to sleep due to coughing - I can't drink w/o drinking tons of water and I didn't do enough. So, it's a sleepy kind of day. My H got a ticket to the Arsenal game (super hard to get them) so he's been there, while I've hung out at home enjoying tv/streaming. I've enjoyed my slothness. I did a bunch of gardening this morning so feel okay with being a sloth. We'll have a bit salad tonight and just relax.
I was up early today to watch Liverpool start their season on TV. My H, my dog, and myself all have matching pajamas for Liverpool so we wore them today, lol.
Meeting a friend and his family for dinner tonight in DC. They are in town for vacation. I like that I live in a place people visit, even when they aren't coming just to see me! This is the third time he has been in town for work related stuff since I moved 6 years ago, which is so nice since I haven't been back to visit so I wouldn't have otherwise seen him. His kids are going to be so big since I haven't seen them in 6 years - I wonder if they even remember me lol.
I need to pick up a prescription so I think I'm also going to go browse HomeGoods while I'm out. I don't need anything but their fall decoris out so I am sure I'll end up buying something cute.
I spent the morning planning activities for the bourbon club I lead. Booked 2 tours and put out a list of dates so people can put them on their calendars.
H and I are going to work on a puzzle today, and then we are going to order pizza and watch the new ghostbusters movie with the kids.
Tomorrow H is golfing in the morning and I told the kids we’d go out to breakfast and they are VERY excited haha. Should be a nice quiet weekend!
Friends' annual rum day party is tonight, their son is DS's BFF so I told them we were picking him up this morning to hang at our house while they did party prep. Picked up groceries on the way home too, and DH did a Costco run to stock us up before school starts Monday.
Hoping to get some yard work done and go to the pool tomorrow, not sure weather is going to cooperate though.
Opening weekend for the Premier League - so it's all football all day to infinity forever and ever 🙃
Don't get me wrong - I love football. But we (I) usually get a summer break. This year we had the Olympics. Last year, we had the women's world cup. Year before that was men's world cup. And it's not like it's the only thing we ever watch, but I have not had two hours alone with the TV in months. Would really like to catch up on MY shows... but football, so 🤷
Also, we've decided we need to reduce our takeout spending. Fine. But this means my grocery bill goes up AND PLUS ALSO I get to spend two more days in the kitchen. Cooking.
We split takeout expenses 50/50. Groceries are all me. I'm planning to download the last three month's worth of receipts into a spreadsheet so I can break down where the money goes in a way he 'might' feel is important. As in, "This is the cost of what I eat. This is the cost of what you eat. This is dinner. Etc." Because he is completely out of touch with reality at this point. Time to step up, dude.
(Also, he knows I'm frustrated. I've told him as much. He's finally getting around to platitudes like, "I should maybe take on more cooking." When "more" in this case would mean "ANY" 😠)
Anyway...
GO LIVERPOOL
ETA: Adding this to be fair to my H since I complain about him a lot on here. He did get up and help me prep dinner tonight. And he made some crab cakes that look awesome.
I wear daily contacts when I work out. Being old, I need progressives for regular life. So I generally just wear contacts for a couple hours a week. Today, I took a shower without taking them out. And why is it that taking a shower, in water, dries out the eyes and make contacts stick like glue?! So I realized the issue when I put on my glasses. And then, I tried to take out the contacts. I added eye drops to remoisten. But, I had my usual 3 types of moisturizer on my face, so I couldn’t get a grip on my eyelids. I gave up.
Ok, fine, I’ll just leave them in for the day. But then I need my readers to function. And I’m so use to the feeling of glasses, I don’t think to take them off when I stand up. And then I get dizzy bc everything is weird.

I spent the morning planning the agenda for the boosters meeting next week and then cleaning the bathroom. MH plays in a men’s golf league and had started golfing with one of the guys outside of the league and he texted MH the other night asking if we wanted to go to dinner with him and his wife tonight so we are doing that. I am super excited about the restaurant.
I'm going to a concert tonight of the band that was a very big part of our lives/marriage and I know it’s going to be emotional. I didn’t want XH to know I was going, purely to “spare” his feelings. Kids understood, so I’m pretty sure they didn’t tell him. But he knows and sent me a text this am “have fun tonight. I wish I could be there with you.”
I’m not responding, because no good can come of it. I just hope this doesn’t set him back or anything.
Also, school starts Monday and I’ve done basically nothing to get the kids ready. They have some folders, notebooks, and pens so that should be good for a bit I’m sure. Now to get them to unpack their book bags from last year…
macmars45 good luck! Hope your DS has a ball. Putting him in new situations is hard work on you, but so good for him.
lucybrown hope you have a quieter trip! I had to Google pudgie pie.
They’re so fun and the combinations are endless. We like getting creative with ingredients. Pepperoni pizza and peanut butter s’more are two favorites. I grew up making them with just pie filling. My kids have no idea how good they have it, lol.
Also, for the gluten free folks, s’mores with Oreos instead of graham crackers are amazing. Especially the mint Oreos. So good and cheaper than GF graham crackers that are stupid expensive.

We had a strange experience at this event today. We got tickets six weeks ago for an adult beginner macrame class. The woman is a local fiber artist who does classes at various places around the city/suburbs and her last class sold out.
We got there on time and it quickly became clear she didn’t have enough materials or space for the 10 people who had tickets. She had six spaces set up and then was scrambling to add a couple more.
She said she wasn’t going to demo for us (??) and that she didn’t know what project we were going to do.
She kept acting surprised at how many people were there.
People asked her to check and make sure everyone there had a ticket and she refused and kept making weird excuses that sounded like lies to explain why she didn’t bring what she needed.
It was a mess and we ended up leaving because there was literally nothing there for us to do or space to do it in. I think there were some no shows at her last class (which was at an awkward weekday time/location) so she didn’t prepare at all and was just going to wing it.
So annoying! This was supposed to be part of a fun weekend for my birthday Monday and everything else is being rained out. It was a good drive too and a pain to park. It has been a rough year and I’m tired of planning things that bizarrely don’t work out.

I hadn’t been to the movies in forever but now that I’m a parent it’s my fav solo date night. I go to a theater that serves you food and you can get drinks and there’s also a bar attached. So I go in comfy clothes, have a meal while watching a movie and get a drink alone at the bar afterwards. I love it for an escape to go out by myself but be nice and comfy and relaxed Maybe it’s cause we live in a small-ish apartment but alone time at home just doesn’t hit the same haha.

I feel like a moron that I haven’t thought of this. Brilliant!
I picked DS1 up from a month of Arabic camp. I only had the one letter from him and otherwise no contact. It was a long month! I was worried because attendance was much smaller this year. His 4 week group only had 3 kids, including him.
He did phenomenal!! He has been going for 5 years and this was the first year it all really clicked. They told me today he was understanding just about everything and was able to joke around with the staff in Arabic. He gave a presentation today and I was so impressed. I internally grimace about the cost each year but I'll never regret doing it. Starting next year he will be able to receive high school credit for each time so that will give him at least 4 years of Spanish and Arabic credit as he is just starting 7th grade.
The last two weeks I’ve done grocery pick up so much is out of stock. Like Covid times all over again.
They don’t have orange juice or organic milk, like what?
This is both of the Krogers near us.
Covid levels are super high, I think it is trickling down to stores.
We’ve had some big stores straight up close hours early because they don’t have enough staff so I can only imagine the staffing shortages down the line in jobs where people are in even closer contact.

Covid is back in 2021 levels and hitting harder than cold like symptoms of previous strains. My doctor office mentioned RX are low or out of stock for cough and antivirals. H got the last bottle of liquid Tylenol at Walgreens on Monday.
We took the kids to see Trap. Omg the plot holes were huge. I told my DH that I’m too old for this movie because I watch too much True Crime, and this is not how it would be handled!
MIL and her husband had a neighbor’s cat “adopt” them a couple years ago. They proceeded to feed it because they’re not smart. (MIL, not the cat.)
The neighbor moved and left the cat!
Now they are spending $60k on a renovated sunroom for the cat. They claim it’s not just for the cat, but it’s 2 of them in the house that is more than enough room for them. It’s a 3 bed, 2 bath.
They paid off their mortgage, but now have to take money out because they don’t have the cash for the renovation.
DH and BIL keep telling them to look into independent places. They’re already mobility limited. Sell the house. Get in now when you can lock in pricing. No more yard work, etc.
All I said to DH was I hope they find a nice place covered by Medicare because we’re not covering their care. Nor could we afford it.
