tacokick That is so odd! I hope you get a b-day weekend re-do for the things that were rained out. Celebrate for the rest of the month!
My youngest sister is in the hospital again. She has a high fever so it's a possible infection in the line where she is provided nutrition (she can't consume food). She moved in with my parents a week ago, so at least my mom was there to take her to the hospital - previously she would have had to call an ambulance and my mom would have gotten on an emergency plane to fly to her. I hope they are able to sort it out - but I don't know what her long term health plan is if this is happening multiple times a year. She also just started a new job (though thankfully with a company she has worked for before so they know her well).
In better news, my dog DNA results arrived and he is 70% toy and mini poodle, 26% mini schnauzer, and 4% Bichon. So no Maltese, which is what the shelter has guessed was his mix. I am not shocked - he makes a lot of noises I would have associated with schnauzers! I am a little surprised he is 70% poodle instead of around half, though.
It was interesting reading about his traits - DNA is fascinating! Despite no pictures of him, it was pretty accurate about his color, size, shape, etc. It knew he has brown eyes. It did say he probably sheds a lot, which isn't true at all. But otherwise it was spot on, which makes me think the breed mix is accurate too. So neat they can tell all of that from a small saliva sample!

wildrice, I’m sorry about your sister. I hope they can figure out a plan of care for her.
I had no idea we had so many Liverpool fans on this board! YNWA!
I was thrilled that we had soccer all summer - Euros, Copa, Olympics… it makes summer more fun for us and it he,ps makes up for the fact that we only have the major networks and Peacock so we don’t get all the matches. We keep trying to decide if it’s worth it to add USA but it just seems soooo expensive. And it’s definitely something that in our house, it would be “impossible” to cut it once we had it. (Obviously we would if finances necessitated it.)
I started back to work this week. Bleh. I’m in a bad place with it and wound up staying up way too late last night googleing things like “how to find your passion in midlife” and “2 year degrees that pay well.” I USED to love my job but am feeling like I need a change. We’ll see how this year goes. The kids start back to school on Wednesday.

I’m struggling a lot with my self-image.
I’m obese and have always been. It has come with the privilege of being invisible. Stories of cat calls and creeps just never touched me. I get a fun personality instead, lol. But now it seems like I’m being seen a lot for ridicule, especially by family, and I’m tired of it.
I’ve been on a diet for at least 25 of my 38 years on this earth. Contrary to what everyone must believe about me, I eat a normal diet and walk/cycle almost every day of the week. I’m fat. I used to be able to lose if I wanted, but now I’m stuck. Maybe this is just the weight I’m going to be 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t have any obesity related health issues, my hormones and thyroid are normal. I feel physically good. But the mental health struggle of being fat around people who apparently think it’s their job to tell me how horrible I am for being fat is too much.
Hell is having a thin boomer mom. Anyway, that’s my trauma for today. Thanks for reading.

It was so weird! Especially since the “supplies” you need to macrame are literally just rope and a pole lol
The weather the end of week looks promising so I’m hoping we can shift some things to then.
Do "no soliciting" signs actually work? Our neighborhood gets a lot of door to door salesmen, especially for pest control and windows/siding. They regularly ring the doorbell in the middle of a workday (I WFH) and I hate it.
I also have no interest in political door knocking. Whether or not I agree with you, I don't want to be interrupted and forced to talk about politics with a stranger on my doorstep.
Do the signs work? My understanding is that political canvassing is not considered soliciting and they are still allowed to knock. I don't want them to, though. Do I need to add something to the sign that says "no political canvassing please" or do most canvassers abide by a "no soliciting" sign?
This brought to you by someone knocking today trying to talk to me about fighting late term abortions. No thank you.
jinkies, we have a no soliciting thing on our door and it works for most people going door to door. We had a canvasser stop yesterday but I’m pretty sure he was the first in many years. Usually they just leave a door flyer and keep going when they see the sign.

Patsy Baloney I’m so sorry. WTF is wrong with people. Can you tell tige family to shut the fuck up about your body? That is beyond rude and would cause me to cut contact.

My sister is in the process of moving across the country to live about an hour away from my parents. And I have super mixed feelings about this. H and I are probably moving back to be closer to my parents next year, and I’m less than thrilled to be in the same state with my sis again. We have a complicated relationship, and her relationship with my parents isn’t great. She will be zero help with my aging parents, and will just make things harder on me as I attempt to do the caretaking they will need.
Anyways all of this is brought to you by the 100 texts I just received from her with complaints about the moving process 😩

Patsy Baloney You are awesome! You are the woman who graduated and walked down her street in her cap and gown in what I imagine to be the most amazing one woman parade ever. Anyone who makes negative comments to you about you sucks.
Survived my kid's 8th birthday party at the bowling alley. We had 11 kids and I don't think I would have really wanted many more there. They were fun but did require some managing from H and me, lol. 2 hours was the perfect amount of time. The bowling alley was awesome to work with and the pizza was pretty good. I over ordered on that a bit so we have a whole one left - at least I don't have to make dinner tonight!
I am laying in bed now with one of the cats while it storms on and off. I need to introvert for a bit. I had some anxiety built up about how this would go so now I'm just relieved. I might nap.
Tonight, we have a pool party from 7-9pm that our parent teacher group is throwing. I doubt we'll stay that whole time but we'll show our faces for a bit and pickup DS's yearbook from last year.
PDQ My child support application needs more paperwork-some really superfluous stuff that no one told me to get such as the magistrates recommendation for the judge recommending approving the divorce, even though I submitted the judges final order.
They also need the financial statement which is irritating bc the order was via agreement/settled and I ignored what the actual calculation said and lowered CS in settlement bc he wore me down. I don’t even want to go through recalculation, I just want what was ordered 1 year ago to be enforced. So I need to go back to the courthouse and DSS office again tomorrow.
Meanwhile something is up. It’s not like him not to pay-if it’s late it’s usually only 1-2 days late, and one time it was 4 days late bc he didn’t have service on his European cruise (woe) but it’s 17 days late.
Second; he has missed the last 3 virtual therapy appointments the last 3 weeks and the last psychiatrist appointment. He kind of lives for that now, it gives him a chance to see me in my home.
Third: it’s extra strange he didn’t attend the last therapy appt bc he had the kids and had taken the proactive step to tell me he would make sure they attend while they are on vacation. When I texted to ask if they are logging on, I got no response. I texted after we ended the session early, still no response. No acknowledgment of it.
I’ve texted since, about his half of the payment to the orthodontist (he forgot to send a check) and he never acknowledged the missed session or CS. Says he hasn’t sent the check yet, and I reminded him treatment can’t begin until it’s paid. He never responded.
Fourth: my child is on 3 meds for mental health. They came back w one missed dose for the two important ones and two missed doses for the stimulant. I literally can’t do anything about this unless I want to pay thousands in contempt motions, and I’m afraid missing two dose a month (bc he sees them twice a month) won’t be taken seriously. Plus I dk how I’d prove it-he would just deny it.

Let me know if you find any non-eyesore signs. We've been plagued with solar panel salesman and they are the most obnoxious people I've ever met (like the newish phone sales people in Target). I can't take it anymore.

Patsy Baloney I really feel your post. I am comfortable with being fat, but my boomer mom can be very hurtful. The last time she was at my house she left me a blood pressure monitor and a full page note of why I needed it.
jinkies I put up a no soliciting sign recently after a very rude person came to my door. I don't get a lot of soliciting here, so I'm not sure it will make a difference. www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJVSBFZV

This has been my experience, too. My home office overlooks the front door and I often glare at them, and they turn and walk away.

I just ordered a custom vinyl from Etsy (because I don’t have my own cricut). I picked the font and color. Cream on a dark green door at our last house. Current door is teal, so I leaned into the MCM vibes and went orange. Which is cool looking, but not the best for legibility.

My goal for this fall is to finally get around to reworking family favorite recipes to be egg free. 3/4 people can’t have eggs, And I can’t just make favorite things just for myself or not at all.
I’m experimenting tonight but worried I’ll be unhappy.

What are you trying to make? I am allergic to eggs and have used most of the substitutes at some point.

Tonight is fried chicken. Also needing revamping is macaroni and cheese
Oh wow, this should be easy since there should be no eggs in Mac and Cheese 😂
Google Grandma Nugget’s Mac and cheese, or there was one on Tik Tok last year that went viral - Tini’s Mac and cheese. This sounds like a fun (and delicious!) experiment!

Also - De Cecco pasta is egg free, and much better than Barilla.

Patsy Baloney I'm so sorry! I feel your pain! I've struggled with weight my entire life. People need to mind their own business!
Not the same I realize....but I get stopped in public and asked why I look "tired" or that I need to "smile more." In addition to being high risk (thanks heart problems), I still wear a mask to keep the comments to a minimum. Ever gotten stopped by the produce/bread/dairy/whatever? Yeah, it's fun. Let's just say I'm not the most attractive person, and I have RBF (hey, I like my RBF).

I’ve had good luck with ours. It’s a small sign that says “No Soliciting” and beneath that in a slightly smaller font “no religious queries.” You could add “no religious or political queries.” I used that language bc the jehovahs witnesses that followed me and dd to my car and cornered us told me that they don’t consider themselves solicitors. Honestly, I think it confuses people enough that they just leave. If someone is brave enough to ring the bell, I peak out the window and yell that we don’t accept solicitors but it’s infrequent.
