So since a lot of us mentioned eating better, what are some healthy but good snack recs for grown ups?
Mine:
-Lesser Evil Himalayan Gold popcorn. Omg, it’s like the best cheese flavored popcorn but I swear the bag does not say anywhere it’s cheese flavored. And it’s vegan, so I don’t know what mojo they used to make it taste like it does.
-cottage cheese. I think this is a love it or hate it thing. I love it.
-Fruit smoothies. We do 2 cups of Cherry Berry frozen fruit from Target, one cup of milk, 2 bananas, a cup of Oikos Triple zero yogurt (vanilla or strawberry), for 2 smoothies. DD and I love these.
-Fairlife Chocolate Recovery Protein smoothies. They just taste like really rich chocolate milk. I buy them at Costco.
I've been trying to focus on just eating "real" food vs pre-packaged stuff. A dietician I met with also recommended pairing up foods to make sure there's more than one food group in a snack because your body needs that combo for it to be effective. That was mind blowing to me.
For example, I'd have a bowl of grapes and strawberries for a snack, but be hungry again right away. Now I pair it with some nuts or a cheese stick to balance the fruit with protein. Same with veggies - I'll do cucumbers and bell peppers with Greek yogurt tzatziki to give it a protein boost vs. just ranch dressing.
I have a major sweet tooth so that's my biggest challenge for snacks. I love the Yasso Greek yogurt ice cream bars for my after dinner treat.
+1 for the yasso bars! I don't like them, but DH and DD2 LOVE them. They also love the little Yasso bon bon things - sea salt and caramel are the house favorite!

twinmomma, I’ve found the same. I always need a little cheese with my fruit, or a small handful of nuts. Apple slices and a cheddar cheese stick is my favorite combo because I am actually 5.
Carrots, cucumbers and Greek yogurt mixed with a squeeze of lemon juice and fresh dill is also good. I make it as a side dish and then we snack on it until we’re out of leftovers.
I am not much of a grazer, I prefer to sit down and eat a meal, but my weakness is definitely the evening glass of wine. “Glass” sometimes more than a glass. I’ve been working to swap that for a fancier cup of hot tea so that it still feels a little indulgent without the alcohol I really don’t need in the middle of the week. My coworker brought me a bunch of different teas from her last visit home from India and they are perfect for this. I never would have thought of turmeric tea but it’s really nice!
librarychica, one of my friends swears by Fre wine. We did dry January together, and I switched from White Claw to Spindrift. She switched from regular wine to Fre, and she said it was really nice - she still got to feel like she was unwinding with a glass of wine, but no alcohol. I bought a bottle recently but haven't tried it yet.
Oh! Apples and peanut butter. That’s one of my faves during the work day and it keeps me full for so long. I get the little cups of peanut butter (Jif I think?) to make it really easy to make that choice. If I have to get out a bowl, measure the peanut butter, clean up the knife and bowl from sticky stuff, etc, I’m much more likely to default to something like Starburst.
If I want something sweet, Justin’s Nut butters come in individual packs and have flavors like vanilla almond, or maple almond, and I spread them on a lightly salted rice cake.
Oikos triple zero yogurts have such good flavors. Salted caramel, lemon tart, banana crème are my favorite.
The Aldi brand elevation high protein bars only come in 2 flavors but they are so filling. Choc PB, and Choc Mint.
I just ate dorritos, so I am guessing that is not what you are going for.
My person trainer recommends tons of protein because it makes you feel more full. I do a lot of quest protein shakes now just because the bars have kind of a chalky flavor, so I can't get too much into the bars, but there are also protein chips, protein granola. I do a lot of Chobani Greek yogurt. Other protein snacks are things like beef or pork jerky- stuff like that.
waverly, have you tried the Fairlife shakes? I thought the quest shakes were... not good. Fairlife has 30g protein for 150 calories, lactose free (requirement for me), and they are DELICIOUS!
DD2 and I actually froze a fairlife shake, then I put it in the blender with a little oat milk and some PB2 powder. It gave it a consistency like a Wendy's frosty and it was sooo gooood... we split it and it was plenty for both of us for a sweet treat.
This time of year we dehydrate peaches, apples, and pears and vacuum seal them in small batches. DD loves to snack on them. They are sweet but still fruit when fruit isn't always available.
Right now my go to snack are the Jiffy peanut butter bars from Costco.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
mommyatty, apples and peanut butter is one of my favorite snacks/meal replacements. We always have those items in the office kitchen and I'll eat that if I'm too busy to grab lunch at work.

I have a hard time snacking. I usually want junk food and then get mad at myself and end up not getting anything or stuffing myself with junk and then feeling worse. Work stocks up on Costco snacks so I think these are all from there.
I do like the cheese/nuts/cranberry trays.
Also the hummus and pretzel chip packs.
They also have little packs of mozzarella balls that I like.
I try to avoid processed stuff for snacks. My morning snack is a Greek-ish salad, made the night before. Afternoon snack is some type of dairy (cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese) and fruit, sometimes with nuts. (I know salads aren’t generally a morning snack, but I like the sweets as an afternoon pick me up!)
I find that making and portioning snacks well before snacking time is helpful since I don’t have to put any thought into it when I’m actually hungry (or bored) and snacking.
I have difficulty with snacking when it’s social though… on the go is also a PITA, and I generally fall back on bars and jerky.
