I have a cyst on my neck that started out as a pimple that initially drained, then it just didn't, and now it's turned in to a cyst. I know that there are several kinds of cysts, and I forget what kind the doctor said this is. Anyway, I'm getting it removed this afternoon and was of course googling, and it said that many times cysts come back after removal. I knew that to be true from my own experience with ganglion cysts, but wasn't sure if that was the case with all kinds. Any personal experience that you would care to share to help me freak out about this less?

Dr. Pimple Popper says it’s a possibility if the sac isn’t removed or remnants of the cyst remain. Hopefully, they’ll get the whole thing out and you won’t have to fuss with it again!

This was my experience. I have a cyst that needs removed again. My doctor was hopeful that he could get it out completely without a more invasive procedure, but I guess we're headed there anyway. It was several years before it came back though.
Lots of things come back. Or don’t. I had a wart on the bottom of my foot and it was a tough treatment to resolve it. I remember the doctor warning that they come back. I was a kid and so far, so good, it hasn’t.

I had a cyst removed last year. It appeared small on the outside. It ended up being a large sac underneath the skin. I was told in order for it to not come back they had to go deeper. So far so good
I had a cyst under the skin on my leg. It was small, maybe 1 cm in diameter. Every single time I caught it on something (my fingernail while scratching my leg or my razor), my stomach would flip over. Ugh, the silly little thing grossed me out.
I went to the dermatologist to have it removed. They thought I was overreacting and tried to persuade me against removal by telling me that it may just come back. I said I didn’t care.

My sebaceous cyst on my back came back as soon as it healed up after the removal. So I left it. I can’t see it and it’s hidden under almost all clothing. I have a new one now below it… I guess it needed a friend.

Thanks everyone. I really hope that this one doesn't come back. It's on my neck right where my necklace lays and I'm was really self-conscious about it. My doctor is pretty confident that she got it all, so we shall see.
I had three sebaceous cysts on my scalp. I was discouraged to remove them for YEARS because they said they'd just come back. But they became uncomfortable, so I went to another dermatologist who immediately recommended getting rid of them. I had them all removed (not just drained) 5 years ago, and they haven't returned. My derm gave them a 10% chance of returning. So far, so good.

A few years ago I had a small cyst on my hand. The doctor said it would likely drain naturally based on the location, but it may come back due to not removing the sac. It did come back once, then went away, and it has not come back since.
