I read about this right after it happened and am so sad she passed. I really hope she was surrounded by loved ones at the end. What a nightmare. Fucking men and violence against women yet again.
I hate the phrasing from the Uganda athletics federation that she "fell victim" to domestic violence. No. She did not fall. Falling is something one can do oneself, accidentally. Her boyfriend actively, intentionally, and it sounds like with premeditation, did this to her. It matters.

Susie, I understand the sentiment, but this is very common verbiage used to describe when someone is hurt, injured, damaged, or killed by another individual, it is not meant at all to minimize the actions of her perpetrator.

I mention this in the thread about the most recent school shooting. In addition to our gun culture being a terrible problem, male toxicity around the globe is pervasive. Fuck this dude for murdering his partner and fuck all of the men who think they can do whatever they want to cause harm and mayhem. I’m super angry about this. It’s absolutely bullshit and it happens everywhere in every culture and in every religion. I hope this individual fucker rots, but how on earth do we fix this? How do we fix men?
underwaterrhymes, it will take several generations to turn toxicity around and only happen if enough women can get into power and make meaningful changes. Even here at home, we continue to falter despite having some women in our top roles. Religion plays a huge role into this also with most major religions keeping men in the roles of power and women in subservient roles.

I am sick to my stomach. Tragically, she is not the only elite female athlete living where she lived (in Kenya, near their elite training facilities for distance runners) murdered by her male partner in recent years.

It may be common verbiage. It may not be intended to minimize. But it in fact does minimize, and we should consciously work to change the way we describe such situations.

@@@@@@@ Yep. I’m glad this tragic story is getting attention but the sad thing is that it’s all too common.
The top reason of death for pregnant women in the U.S. is homicide. It’s horrific.

With rare exceptions like in some matriarchal societies, religion is absolutely the biggest cause of oppression.
A lot of that has to do with womens historical inability to control fertility. It's hard to be in charge when serially pregnant. This is why I (and actual scholars make this argument. I'm not special) I think the Pill is the single biggest contribution to women's ability to attempt to achieve any measure of equality.
And now we have the fragile white men going after even birth control. They know that if we're not physically incapacitated most of our childbearing years they'd actually have to compete on merit. And they'd fail.

Has anyone seen anything about her children. I know she was coming home from church with her children when this occurred. I know they saw their mother attacked so they aren’t “okay” but were they injured at all? I haven’t seen any mention of their condition/ anything other than they were with her.

fernweh I believe her parents are local, so hopefully kids are with family. I also read an article re a group in Kenya that formed to fight femicide was traveling to support the family, so hopefully help is reaching them. I have not seen anything about them being physically hurt.
