DD1 decided to play pickleball at school. It meets 3 days a week and is just intramural, so I'm not carving out time to watch matches. She is also going to join the set design crew for the fall play. I did the same thing in HS and I loved everything about it - so much fun, met nice friends. She's a lot more artistic than I ever was, so I hope that she really enjoys it. I'm proud that she's putting herself out there and happy she decided to jump in.
I've also signed her up for guitar lessons during a study hall at school. We won't know if the schedule will work out for a couple of weeks.
DD2 is playing on 3 soccer teams. School practices M-F except on game days. Club practices are twice a week, Mon and Wed. Right now the practices run 615-730, but the field doesn't have lights and the sun sets at around 7 now and will just keep getting earlier... so I'm just waiting to hear that the time or location is changing. Town Rec practice is right after school and right before club, so she's probably not attending many of those.
She had her first town rec game today. I didn't attend, but DH said it was a total mess. They lost 7-3. DD2 played center D the whole time, but the other defenders had never played soccer before and I guess kind of ran away from the ball. So she was alone on defense, DH said she got burned a couple of times, and it doesn't sound like the GK actually stopped anything. I think it's going to be a long season.

My girls are both changing up sports this fall. My oldest is focusing on cross country and has made the varsity roster as a sophomore first timer( ran some in middle school but never seriously). She is still planning to do her club swim team but may use it to cross train for running. My youngest has gone all in on competitive dance. She had 3 two hour dance practices and another 2 hours of tumbling. She is also doing orchestra at school and likely will do the viola, but waiting for the meeting to finalize. She is taking a break from swim and plans to go back for long course.
I’m going to miss seeing our swim friends but love that their new activities are with the school district, so everything is less than 10 minutes away with carpool opportunities. Our swim club was 30 minutes each way.
DD2 is doing rec/AYSO soccer through the beginning of November. She's also doing after school fast pitch softball practice one day/week. She will start voice lessons in October. DD1 has club volleyball for the remainder of September. She plays in her school's jazz and concert bands. She takes sax and flute lessons and wants to start electric bass lessons as soon as volleyball ends. I'm a little reluctant to add another instrument, but she's been insisting for over two months, so....
DS, who has been my reluctant kid, has suddenly decided he wants to do everything. He has been doing ninja classes for more than a year (like American Ninja Warrior stuff). He just started playing in an esports league on a team. They had their first games today, and came in 9th and 11th, which I think is pretty good. He started playing violin at school this year, and he’s enjoying it, though homie hasn’t brought his instrument home a single time. He’s decided he also wants to do parkour at a parkour gym, so we are signing him up for that. And he wants to do Boy Scouts. And he wants to take theater classes. And maybe start playing Dungeons and Dragons. I’m proud he wants to put himself out there, but omg.
DD is doing school field hockey. They practice daily last period of school, which is a longer class period to account for the need to change into practice clothes, so actual practice time is around an hour per day, I think. She’s also doing her club team, which practices every Sunday for between 2 and 2.75 hours, depending on whether she does the optional extra practice for travel team kids. School season is basically September and October. In November she goes to a big tournament with her club team for which I had to fill out a recruiting guide entry for her. This cracked me up because she’s TWELVE. And has been playing for one year. So I’m not holding out for any early college offers, lol. She also wants to do parkour one day per week.
DD1 is at a new dance studio - she will have 6 routines and dance 3-4 days a week. And then she’s playing D&D every other Sunday.
DD2 made a travel soccer team which is 3 days a week. Hockey warmups have also started.
DS is also playing soccer but it’s only 2 days a week. He’s also in hockey warmups and we are trying to squeeze in flag football, but it’s falling on the same day and times as his soccer games.

DD2 had her second try hockey class today. Still loves it so I sighed her up for learn to play hockey in a few weeks. She’s finishing her last learn to skate at the same time, but by mid October will be back down to one skating session a weekend again.
DD2 is taking a break from music lessons but is trying out again for the school play.
Both kids also joined the Coding Club at school. DD1 is mostly doing it because we asked her to make pickup easier. She is not a joiner but she likes the teacher and says she will give it a try so we will see if it sticks.
DD is on a new travel softball team that hasn’t had any games yet but has been practicing 3x a week. They should start playing some games next week d. Middle school girls flag football had a bigger turnout than expected (I could have told them they would, since flag football for girls has gotten super popular here, as there is a girls-only league now for Friday night lights and it is now an official high school sport), so they’re having an extra tryout Monday and trying to figure out how many teams they can field to not have to cut a bunch of girls. I’m pretty confident that DD will make that regardless of how many teams they have since she was the quarterback of the team that won her league last year.
DS1 is doing a 2-month weekly baseball clinic run by a local travel team organization. He’s been on several rec teams with volunteer parent coaches that mostly just play games, so we felt like he’s lacked some actual instruction. He’s really excited about it - the first one was today and he knew a couple other kids. He’s also playing rec soccer and has been getting into golf - I think that might be the team he tries out for as a fall sport in middle school.
DS2 is playing soccer.
Today we had the baseball clinic, two soccer games, and a softball workout. Back to packed fall sports weekends.
My kids do no non-sport extracurriculars. Which is so strange since DH and I don’t do team sports at all and did extracurriculars that were mostly music and performing arts.
Both kids are playing both school and club soccer. Their club teams are so much fun to watch -- they are finally GOOD and playing in leagues where their teams are competitive. This is the first year where every game isn't a blow out one way or the other.
DD1's high school team is BAD. Their best player is out with an injury until at least October. Most of the kids have no business playing on a varsity team. The goalie is 4'9" and unathletic. It's bad.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
DD1 has decided to go all in on her instrument this year. Last year she never practiced at home, but really loved the middle school band teacher the comradery so it's stuck this year. She's doing the after school jazz band in addition to the in school band class. There are a few extra band opportunities during the year that she's already planning to audition for too. She's also doing color guard. And board game club after school, mainly because the advisor is her favorite teacher from last year.
DD2 is also doing color guard and board game club. She's also in D&D club. She just auditioned for a Shakespeare play at our local theater, so we're waiting to hear back on that. Rehearsals will be a few nights a week for a few hours.
DS is doing rec soccer, which was so fun to watch yesterday! DH and I think he touched the ball more yesterday than he did in the other three years of soccer he played combined. He used to be terrified of the ball and the crowd of kids on the field so he'd just stand on the outskirts. Yesterday we told him that his goal was to run into a group of kids at least once and he did it over and over! So proud of him! He's also doing a volleyball clinic to learn how to play so that he can try out for the school team later this year. Again, he's a kid who was terrified of any ball a year ago, but now he's playing volleyball?! Wild!
DD2 had her first club soccer game of the season yesterday. They lost 3 players from last season and gained one, and the new player is VERY green. Last spring, they didn't win any regular season games - all draws and losses.
Yesterday they won 3-0. I didn't attend, but DH said that they worked better as a team than they have in 2 years. The players that were just OK last year have stepped up their game. He said DD2 was playing midfield - not her favorite, she prefers defense - and hustled the whole time. He said she didn't get a ton of playing time, but not awful (maybe enough of a difference for her to notice?) So maybe our conversations worked?

DD is back on the JV-B volleyball team at school. She was disappointed that she didn't make JV-A, but we are just trying to roll with it and her team is doing great so far (6-0). She has been getting a fair amount of playing time and she is doing great. She made the same club vball team (as she played with last season), and looking forward to club season which official practices start Nov. 1st.
DS is having fun with rec soccer, playing with the same team for the last few years. He actually made a challenge team earlier in the summer, (which we were super excited about), but unfortunately the team didn't get enough players so it didn't work out. Hopefully he will keep working on his skills and possibly make challenge team next year? Sports are so competitive around here, it seems that you really have to play a level above if you want a shot at making the school team.
I don't think I ever posted but DS2 broke his humerus a month ago. He was signed up for HS football so the poor kid hasn't been able to play. He has still been going to all the practices and games to learn and watch.
He had an updated xray and it's healing great. He was able to remove the sling and he can use his arm now. Mostly just moving it around, increasing range of motion, writing, typing but no heavy lifting or actual practice yet. 4 more weeks. But he can do cardio stuff as long as it doesn't hurt.
DS1 is a college freshman and decided to join club rugby which he's never played before. He did play football in HS. I need to learn the rules.
DD has been dealing with a lot of foot/ankle pain the last few weeks. She saw the chiropractor and he adjusted her foot and basically said she has some very angry ligaments and needs to rest and use her braces. Still was bugging her so she tried putting a Dr Scholls arch support inside her brace and it has worked magic. Enough that the head coach told her to use them on both feet so she isn't lopsided.
We had evals on Friday and DD had a rough practice. I'm 100% positive she has had another growth spurt as she is tripping over everything and when that happens her gymnastics goes in the toilet. That said we know for a fact that we are competing level 5 this year and her first meet is November 2nd.

I left H in charge for 2 weeks — 2 weeks during which there were open houses for both kids — and somehow he got roped into volunteering with some kind of problem solving club before scho on Wednesdays with DD2.

DD1 - started training for her junior year swim season. It should be another fast one for her. The team has big goals, and she is looking to break some records as part of the medley and 400 free relays. Also, college recruiting has begun. This is all new and is making college seem way to close. I need ALL of my two years I have left.
DD2 - MS gymnastics team season has begun. She's had some new PRs and is doing well and having fun.
DD3 - Her swim season has begun too. She got moved up a training group, so she practices for 1.5 hours now. We cut her down to just 3 days a week though. She made the school robotics team (the only 3rd grader, apparently), so she has robotics and rec gymnastics on her days off from swim.
