Also not from there (lol) but spent a long weekend in the Oceanside-Cannon Beach-Cape Meares-Cape Lookout area and it was absolutely beautiful. Great beach walking and hiking (we did easier walks but there are all levels of trails).

I’m not, but I’m from the PNW and I’ve vacationed or camped there a lot in my life. I could probably tell you something about every town along the coast.
Wanted to know what it's like in the summers. Does it ever get above 65/70?
Most definitely. This year for July 4th it was HOT. I mean yes the summers can still be cool and cloudy, but more often than not in July and August it is shorts and T-shirt weather. It does cool down as soon as the sun goes down.
And I agree with the PP, I never go in the water above my knees. But DS and DH do almost every time we're down in the summer.

It can get hot but not very often. This summer I was in Newport for a week with my kids and it was 65-70F and sunny. At the same time it was 100F in Portland so we were very happy to escape the heat.
Yes you can find magical days where it will be hot 80s+. Even better if you find a day that are in the 70s and you have no wind. I live 50 minutes from Florence and we go over and walk the beach a lot. It's my DD and my happy place where we can just let go all the crap. We went yesterday it was 85 and smokey at home. 68 and sunny/foggy in Florence with a 5pmh wind. We had long sleeves and leggings on but when we found a spot blocked by the wind our long sleeves came off as it got toasty.
Last February DD had gymnastics meet in Newport and it was one of those magical weather weekends. 60, sunny and no wind and we were all running around in leggings and t-shirts.
We will get our feet wet but never past our ankles. I've seen too many people get sucked in or knocked over being knee deep in the water on our coastline and even on the hottest day that water is cold.

We went one August when it was 100+ in Portland. So excited for a summer week at the beach!! It was 60 and raining at Rockaway. “Beach” weather happens but it is unpredictable.
I live near the north Oregon coast (Astoria). It's often about 20 degrees cooler here than in Portland during the summer and we've had several 80+ days this summer, but it's not typical. The Pacific ocean makes a great air conditioner.

I grew up camping on the coast (every summer during the '80s/'90s) and the temperatures varied wildly, from chilly rain, to it getting super hot to the point the sand felt like it was scalding your bare feet. It's kind of a crapshoot though. (We spent most of our time near Florence, Yachats, Newport, and Lincoln City, but we'd also go up to Astoria, and as far south at Bandon, but didn't really go to the beach in those places.)
The ocean however will always be numbingly cold. Kids generally won't care, and if you have achy joints you might enjoy the frostiness. I used to go in (up to my chest) as a kid, because my older brother was a tough teenager and he'd take me.
the air temp can get warm if the sun is shining but the water will never be "swimmable" for an adult lol We went on Labor Day sunday and it was freezing and windy but 90+ in the valley you just never know. I have also went in the winter when it was warmer than some summer days.
It really has to do with the sun shining and no wind and it can change pretty quickly
But it is still beautiful and one of my happy places.
