I thought my kid had a practice today but it’s a game. Changes our afterschool timeline. I have chili ready to go but can it simmer for an hour now and then another hour after the game? Or turning on, off, on a bad thing? The meat is already cooked through.
I am trying to avoid leaving simmering while no one is home (obviously) and also delaying dinner too long.
Do you have a crockpot you can toss it in and just keep it on warm?
I do but it won’t thicken up in the crockpot.
What about simmering it for an hour, then putting it in the crockpot? Take it with a grain of salt, I only make my chili in a crockpot and never have issued with it not thickening. Maybe throw a little bit of flour or cornstarch in it?
simmer it for the hour and then put on high in the crockpot if it does not seem thick enough. Problem solved.
But, I always say "yes" to WYET questions on here, so I would also not hesitate to heat it for an hour, leave for a bit with the heat off, then heat it again when you get home from the game.

This is what I would do too. I wouldn't give it another thought! I also hate cleaning my crock pot so hell no to two pots to clean.
