I switched shampoo/conditioner a couple weeks ago to something hydrating and I deep condition about once a week, but looking for recs as I'm almost out of my current one.
Should I look into a satin pillowcase? E uses them with her fine hair and knots.

Two big things would be never going to bed with your hair wet, and to wear a bonnet. Wearing your hair in that scrunchie is probably contributing to your breakage to be honest.
As an aside, Satin pillowcases aren't really that great for you. They can harbor bacteria and are not hypoallergenic. You really want to use Silk if anything. Natural fabrics are best for anything you are putting your face on.
Silk scrunchie/pineapple and silk pillowcase work best for me, or occasionally I’ll wear a silk-lined bonnet (but that makes my head hot).
If your hair is long and you wear it up a lot, you might consider a silk scrunchie for daytime use, or teleties worked great for me when I had long hair. And not pulling it back super-tight.
Finally, be super-aware of heat damage and always use a heat protectant when using hot styling tools. Taking a break from hot styling for a few days a week can also help.
Just commiseration over here. I have a ton of short pieces in the front and sometimes they stick straight up. I have a hair mascara of sorts that tames them down with some kind of product, but I would love to not have this problem altogether. I'm guessing mine is from straightening it most days and I don't really want to stop doing that. I do use a heat protectant. I don't know, it sucks.
-Always use heat protectant whenever blow drying or using heat tools. I also let my hair air dry so it's at least 50% dry before using a blow dryer on it.
-Never going to bed with wet hair. My hair is too short to pin up on top of my head right now, but when it was longer I would twist it and then use a few small claw clips around the bun to secure... so no scrunchies/hairbands. Since it's short right now (above my shoulders) I just put it in a loose pony tail at the base of my neck with a satin scrunchie.
I've learned a lot of these tips from following this girl, Abbey Yung on Instagram.
