God, I’m tired. I just finished Week 3 out of 4 of insane travel. I am supposed to work 80 hrs over a 2 week period. I hit 80 hrs on Monday of this week. I’m too old for this shit.
The weekend is going to be regular busy. Kids activities. Other than that, I’m going to sit in the couch and be borderline comatose.
It was a quiet-ish week this week. DD2 was sick so she ended up skipping two of her non-school soccer practices, and then her coach cancelled the third one. We had DD2's back to school night and her teachers all seem amazing. The head of school approached DH and I last night and told us that she found DD2 hiding in her locker yesterday... not for any reason other than she thought it would be funny to pop out and surprise her friends. Head of school was laughing the whole time, told DD2 not to do it again, and asked us to please not tell DD2 that we knew about it because she didn't want DD2 to feel like she couldn't be herself and trust head of school. She just didn't want her getting stuck in the locker.
She's such a goof (and I say that with joy and laughter... I'm really actually pretty pleased with the fact that she's comfortable enough to be silly... she really is goofy in the best possible way)
DD2 is supposed to have a soccer scrimmage with her school team, but it's been raining for hours and it's not going to stop. This team usually cancels for rain, so I'm hoping that happens. After I pick up the kids from school, DH and I are heading to our beach house for the weekend. It's going to rain all weekend, which is kind of a bummer, but it will still be good to get away and reconnect. I'm hoping it means that all of DD2's soccer things get canceled on Saturday so they can do fun things with our former nanny.
Sunday evening, DD2 has a club game at like the most inconvenient location possible. It's at a field near the airport... which is a nightmare on a good Sunday evening... but one of the two tunnels that leads to the airport will be closed, making traffic even worse. So while it's around 15 miles from our house, we're anticipating that it will take us well over an hour to get there. There's no parking near the field, so we'll have to circle the surrounding streets looking for a spot.
But it looks like a beautiful spot - the field is right on the water. And arguably the best pizza spot in the area is right near the field, so I'll be getting an order for the way home. Should be fun!
I'm home on my porch drinking ice coffee. Dd made it in last night.
We are packing up this morning for our annual Halloween Camping trip, this park has 6 weekends of Halloween themed Camping. I've got my soup cooking for tomorrow, we all bring a different soup for Saturday. Dd and I need to load lawn chairs, food, coolers and bedding. Dh gets off at 1:00 so when he gets home, we will head out.
Tonight, we will fry chicken and sit around the camp fire. Tomorrow afternoon there will be campsites decorated and we will drive on a golf cart around the park exploring. We probably know 40 people going this weekend since today is a school holiday. Trick or Treat is tomorrow afternoon. Then more bonfire and hanging out.
On another note, Ds just told us he is coming home for a visit first of November. So I need to get with him for plane tickets since I'm paying and he may not be that thorough looking at the best rates.
DH has to work today and tomorrow so I'm solo with the kids for the majority of it. I have to do school pickup for DS and get DD2 to and from her first rehearsal tonight. We will get the full rehearsal schedule tonight, so I can finally figure out wtf is going on for the rest of the weekend. I'm annoyed they didn't just email it to us so we could plan in advance. We know she'll have rehearsal on Saturday and Sunday but no clue when until 8 PM tonight.
Tomorrow we're juggling a soccer game for DS and whatever the rehearsal schedule is. We had hoped to take the kids to a local comicon event but that feels ambitious. We'll see. And soccer might get rained out, who knows?
Sunday the girls are going to their grandmother's to work on Halloween costumes with her and then we're going to MIL's after that. MIL decided that she wanted to teach the kids the value of a dollar and work ethic, so she's making them re-stain her deck furniture so she can pay them. They already did one coat and apparently needs another? I'm staying out of that whole thing. And maybe (probably) rehearsal in there too? I just want to make sure we're home at a reasonable time since it's a school night.
And because I'm not busy enough, I have a call today about potentially joining the board of a local nonprofit that our family supports. I'm very interested, but not sure what the commitment will be so we'll see how that pans out.
I wanted to update. I talked to my counselor about my concerns with DS's social life. She and I both agree that we don't want to push him and make him think there is something "wrong" with him but that we do want him to take baby steps to manage his own social life instead of just hanging out in the basement and playing switch all weekend every weekend. She suggested I ask him about the frequency he wants to see friends. She suggested weekly, I thought every 2 weeks and DS came up with every 2 weeks on his own without my input. This is him planning something as opposed to an organized activity. He will still have soccer etc on the other weekends. He is a pretty serious introverted guy, so he said every 2 weeks because he says his friends can be obnoxious LOL. I mean they are 13 year old boys so yes probably.
I think he was inspired by his sister walking home from school today with a friend, but he texted his friend and they were going as a group, so he got to add himself onto that group. This will be the first time both of them are wandering around after school on a half day, but it is kind of the norm for the middle school. I am not really worried about him at all since he is in 8th grade. It will be interesting to see how it goes for the 6th grade girls.
I was excited to see he made progress sort of immediately on this after our conversation.
Yesterday was a 15-hour day with flights and two client meetings in another city, but everything went well. One of my clients gave me a big thank you shout out on LinkedIn and he’s pretty high profile in our industry so that’s really nice. And a conference I’m attending next month used a huge version of my headshot as an advertisement for the conference. It would have been nice if they asked me first, but at least my ‘personal brand’ is benefitting 🤣🤷♀️
I also got my quarterly paycheck for the portion of my pay that is paid quarterly today, so I can work on booking more stuff for our holiday trip and pay off some existing bills. Oh, and the new client I won that is replacing the revenue from the one I lost signed their contract this week. So lots of good stuff professionally.
Today’s family calendar outside of work and school is blissfully empty. Then Saturday and Sunday we have 5 sporting events across 3 kids and 3 sports, plus two birthday parties, a neighborhood happy hour/date night, and the dog’s training class. Phew.

I skipped the gym last night so I could do some last minute grocery shopping for camping, pack my dirt bike gear up, and mow the lawn that desperately needed it. But other than packing my clothes, I think we're all ready for a week of boondocking. It's been a little different making sure we had enough food since not only are we staying longer than normal, but we have people joining us throughout the trip. Beau's brother left this morning to get our camping spot and we'll join him tonight. His employee and a friend will stop by Saturday for dinner. Beau's son and grandson decided at the last minute that they'll come Sunday, and Beau's cousins might come Sunday. I think I'm most excited for a week off from work next week.
I never circled back with an actual post about my weekend. Both kids had half days and walked home from school with friends (yay). DD has practice tonight and a soccer tournament. Luckily, DS has no games this weekend. We don't have other plans because we don't even know when Sunday's game will be- thank you tournaments. DH and I will probably grab a drink during DD's practice.
I just got back from a three day camping trip with 50 8th graders. I’ve just been sitting on my couch in silence for the past hour.
Both kids have soccer this weekend. DD2’s game tomorrow is far, boo. My colleague / friend is having a 40th bday party on Saturday with an east coast / west coast theme so that should be fun.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

My former roommate who now lives in another country is in the state visiting her family, so Sunday the girls and I are driving up to spend the day with her and her nieces at the beach.
Tomorrow DD2 has ice skating. We may go visit my parents for a bit after, since it’s nearby and we haven’t seen them in a month between their vacation and my work trip.
I have peace and quiet this weekend and I have no idea what to do w it. It’s not my weekend w this kids-I still have 2 out of 3 of them but the oldest. I took them to the football game and picked them up, and I have a long run to do today and I’ll take my son to an all day baseball thing today and pick him up but supposedly they are gettin picked up tonight.
Both their games were cancelled tomorrow.
I don’t know what to do with this time. I guess catch up on things around the house. I’m not complaining it just never happens. Maybe I’ll watch tv?
