I feel like this needs its own thread.
I love the wide leg look and am thrilled to toss my skinny jeans. But some wide legs just look like so much fabric. Maybe I want a straight leg? I just have not yet cracked this code. lol.
Specifically, I've lost 20 pounds so everything still fits but nothing fits well.
I would spend $150 for the perfect pair of jeans but I also love the idea of trying a couple less expensive pairs.

I'm never giving up my skinny jeans, but I did want to branch out to other cuts this year. I tried on a TON from different stores, and I agree that jeans are a personal thing and what looks fab. on one person is not going to work for another. But I did find that I needed midrise and not high rise for looser jeans, and I'm short, so they needed to be extra short to work for me. I had luck with Old Navy Mid rise boyfriend loose jeans, and mid rise OG straight ankle jeans. I have one other pair I found from Maurices, but I can't remember what they are, I returned too many from there that all look the same.
I purchased these a few months ago and I like that they have a bit of stretch. The fabric is softer than the typical jeans feeling, which I like. I’m 5’2” and typically a size 10. I purchased these in a size 8 though, as this brand seems to be generous in its sizing.
I wear them with flats, tennis shoes and a small wedge heel.
I have thick calves and am so glad that the world is finally moving on from skinny jeans.
Democracy is my go to! They have them at tjmaxx and Marshall’s for $29.99 and $34.99. So flattering on the tummy area and stay up so well. I am usually a 10 but wear an 8 in this brand.

For higher end, I like Paige and Mother. I really like the Paige Anessa for a wide leg that isn’t too wide. I always get them on sale somewhere, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Saks, Anthro, etc.
I also like Madewell jeans, although they are getting more expensive I think.

I really like Judy Blue jeans. They are stretchy and generally flattering, and I like that they have inclusive-sized models. I don’t need to know what a model who is 5’10 and a size 0 looks in jeans. I need to know what a size 12 looks like in the jeans.
American Eagle Strigid Mom Jeans and the Super High Waist Dreamy Drape have been in constant rotation for me this season.
I don’t have these in particular but I have a “curvy 90s skinny jean” that aren’t really skinny at all and I love them. I also got a higher waisted skinny pair from there and like them.
Lately for me it’s more about the waist. I can’t stand a lower cut waist that I have to keep hiking up.
I have stuck with Levi's the last few years. It requires going and trying on a bunch because various styles fit differently, but I like 501s and some of the wedgies. I also had a pair of 70s fit that I got at Winners (Canadian TJ Maxx) that I loved, but I lost weight and haven't found an exact replacement yet. They were the perfect high rise and slightly wide leg, but not too wide.

Do you have a Buckle near you? While some of their clothes are, let’s say, questionable, I’ve always had amazing luck finding jeans there. The sales staff have always been amazing and will give you tons of options to try on, to help you find exactly what you want, and what looks and feels good. Some of them have been my best hype girls!

I love Democracy Jeans. I usually go with straight leg or boot cut with a fairly high waist, but I’m short and curvier (they have petite sizes). I can usually get them at Nordstrom rack online for $50 but sometimes my color and style options are limited. I have an olive green pair I love because I wear a lot of black and they look great with a black t-shirt.
Another shortie here (5’4”), size 16-16W, pear-shaped. I like:
- Kut from the Kloth (don’t come in shorter inseams, but I either deal with it or have them hemmed). - Judy Blue (some styles come in shorter inseams) - Liverpool - Democracy
Right now I’m wearing relaxed fit, boyfriend, straight leg, and bootcut. After years of skinny jeans, the first time I put on a pair of roomy straight leg jeans I heaved a huge sigh of relief and immediately remembered that jeans can be comfortable.
I got a pair from Lands End last year that I wear a lot. Mid-priced and very reasonable on one of their 40% off sales.
One thing to consider with the wide leg is where you want the hem. I'm 5'3" and can normally wear petite pants off-the-rack without hemming. But these petites were meant to be ankle length and I prefer a longer inseam with wide-leg pants. I ended up buying the misses length. These have a high waist.
sparty04, Gap used to make a full flare style called "Long & Lean" that were the most flattering jeans I've ever owned. I would be thrilled if they did a re-release.

I remember those! I always found it ironic that they were so flattering considering I am decidedly neither long nor lean. But man those jeans were great.

I need some new jeans this year since my body has changed the last few years from perimenopause. I'm apple shaped and I've been happy with the Judy blues for minimizing my stomach but also not being baggy in the legs. I need jeans that don't balloon out in the legs so I'm still on the skinny jean. Going to try some madewells and democracy jeans. I also like Lucky brand
Don't do what I did and find wide leg jeans you love at Universal Standard. It was a new product, yet the style was already out of stock and discontinued two months later when I tried to buy more.

I like Madewell. Bring in a pair of old jeans that you don't want any more (any brand) and they'll give you a discount card toward the new ones. I also think you need to try them on in person because depending on the style, the sizing can be weird.
My faves right now though are the cropped wide leg palazzo jean from Good American (had to size up), Maeve Colette High Rise Wide Leg (Anthropologie - sooo comfy and I got them much cheaper on Poshmark), and Paige crop flaires (good deal on extra clearance sale at Anthropologie a month-ish ago). I like that so many different styles are popular right now.
