I would go to a Nordstrom and try on a bunch of different brands. Then I’d either go to a local resale shop or Poshmark and see if I could find them for significantly less. While thriving yesterday, I found a ton of Madewell, Everlane, Frame, Kit, and Paige jeans. I wasn’t looking for jeans, so didn’t get any, but will go that route when I am.
The last new, non-skinny jeans I’ve gotten and liked were Levi Denizen from Target.
I need some new jeans this year since my body has changed the last few years from perimenopause. I'm apple shaped and I've been happy with the Judy blues for minimizing my stomach but also not being baggy in the legs. I need jeans that don't balloon out in the legs so I'm still on the skinny jean. Going to try some madewells and democracy jeans. I also like Lucky brand
I am apple shaped and democracy are by far the best for me! Super flattering!
I also have a pair from Universal Standard, but I can't remember whic one they are. I have too many pairs of jeans sitting in a drawer. I don't find them comfortable.
You'll pry my skinny jeans from my cold dead hands.
This. I just like how they make everything feel…sucked in. Plus, as a super short person, I always feel like the loose cut ones are just so.much.material on me. I will continue to wear my AE super high rise jeggings until they fall apart.
I really like Judy Blue jeans. They are stretchy and generally flattering, and I like that they have inclusive-sized models. I don’t need to know what a model who is 5’10 and a size 0 looks in jeans. I need to know what a size 12 looks like in the jeans.
OMG..my 16yo and I just got a pair of these to share from a vintage shop for $10! They are amazing..so soft, and flattering on both of us. We joked that they are like the pants from “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”, because they are perfect.
Costco had some Levis for sale last year that were so comfortable I went back and bought four. Then went back again and they were gone so I went online and bought 4 more. They are labeled "314"

So, from reading these replies I've figured out that Democracy and Wit & Wisdom are essentially the same brand, except Wit & Wisdom is a Nordstrom exclusive.
Anyway, I went to Nordstrom last spring before a trip on a mission to find some comfortable jeans and pants. I ended up getting two pairs of Wit & Wisdom Ab Solution pants, and I *love* them. The waist is amazing.
I bought the Democracy jeans based on your collective rec, and I think I'm in love! I'm self-conscious about my thick legs, and while these are definitely fitted through the thighs, the stretch makes them feel ok (even comfy!), and the fact that they're not hugging my calves is heaven. I can never find a pair that doesn't gap at the waist, so these do as well, but only a little. And I feel like my butt looks so good, I might not be able to wear these at work. lol

I'm loving my H&M baggy-wide. I got them last year and they are holding up well and I love the look. I have them in the "regular" which sits lower on the waist and the high rise. I can't remember if I had to get short or if the regular length worked. I'm 5'3" carry weight in my thighs, and have them in size 10 and 12 I think and they fit exactly as I would want a wide leg pant to fit me.

Thanks for suggesting these!
Great! I always feel like my butt looks the best in this brand! They make a ton of cuts and I always check TJ maxx and Marshall’s for them.

I love these but they look too short for me; I have a long inseam and ankle pants are always more like calf pants on me. How long are they on you and how tall are you?

I'm 5'8", and I have a size 16. They aren't too short at all. I mean, they're definitely cropped. But in a cute, just at the ankle kind of way, not a Capri pant kind of way. The ones they're showing in the video on the Nordstrom site make them look way shorter. Sometimes they almost look full length to me.
American Eagle Strigid Mom Jeans and the Super High Waist Dreamy Drape have been in constant rotation for me this season.
Ditto the AE dreamy drape. I did have to take the waist in a few inches, but I've yet to find a brand where I don't have waist gap, so if that's usually an issue for you it will be at AE too but less than any other brand I've found so far.

I have been stalking the Dreamy Drape jeans and the ones I want are still out of stock. I need to put some kind of alert.
ETA: they have "regular" lengths in stock in an 8 and a 10 (in the wash I want). How do these fit?

Have you tried the Abercrombie Curve line? It solved decades of waist gap issues for me.

I love the Theda jeans from Marc O'Polo. I don't know if there are any physical stores in the US, but the company does ship to the US. I bought a pair in June when I was in Poland for work, and they are my new favorites. They are more $ than I would typically want to spend on jeans, but I wear jeans a lot, so worth it to me.

I ordered two sizes to start and went with the smaller of the two, so if you're between sizes, size down. ETA: I'm 5'4" and got short length.
