I have a potentially stupid question that I'd rather ask here. With the weight that I've lost, my glasses that I just got earlier this year have become loose and are constantly falling down my nose. Am I able to have them tightened or am I SOL until the next time I get a new pair? It's super annoying to be constantly adjusting them.

lavenderblue, I had the same issue and they were able to tighten them for me.
Along the weight loss line, I moved down two shirt sizes, the problem is the shirts are so much shorter! I'm 5'9" and my torso is long, I needed every inch of length.
lavenderblue, yes you may be able to have them adjusted. Take them into an optical shop - if they're plastic frames, they heat up the plastic and bend them into a better-fitting shape.
I have so much travel coming up and have already checked out at work. I leave Friday for a long girl's weekend in Boston. The following week we are in H's hometown W-Su for their huge fall festival. The week after that I have a two day work conference up north. And we close out October with a long family weekend in NYC. I am looking forward to literally all of it!
Our power was out this morning, it just came back on and I have to prep for a call so of course I am here lol
DS has a late bday party in a few weeks, is it weird to ask for no presents? My mom thinks so. I'm just telling people when they rsvp = no presents please, DS just wants to have fun with his friends!
Contributing factors - he is 9, no one seems to be doing parties anymore. His real bday was at the end of summer but no one is around for a party then. His sister just had a bday and no party. He has a ton of crap and Christmas is just around the corner. He was happy with a box of Pokemon cards instead as a compromise.
I know in my head that it's fine to do no presents but my mom had me doubting myself...
I am ridiculously beat this morning. I think it was from pushing myself too hard recently. I did a fencing tournament yesterday, after practice Thursday and Saturday. And I have my hard class tonight. This also messed with my hair washing schedule, which is usually Saturday and Monday, but now I threw Sunday in. I don’t know if it’s that or just sleeping poorly. I’m not sore. I’m just super tired.
On the plus note, this was probably my best finish yet. The finish (2 of 2 women, 3 of 4 combined) doesn’t show it. But when I break down the metric, I did good.

I think it's fine to do no presents. We did our daughter's bday party that way and it was great. I hate getting a bunch of random stuff that we don't have the room for so this was a good compromise. Bday kid gets to have fun with their friends, parents save money and it's a win win.

lavenderblue, first, congratulations on your weight loss! I know that if I ever need my glasses adjusted, I can just call ahead and then stop into my optometrist's office. If you bought your glasses online, I wonder if you could check with a chain optometry to see if they would adjust for a small fee.
We had a nice weekend. DD went to the Conan Gray concert with a friend on Saturday night, and they had a blast. (The friend's mom took them.) DS worked the youth football game and was the announcer, so he was happy to earn a little money and it's an "easy" job for him. DH and I went to the last game of the day that DS was announcing so we could listen to him. DH has a nice tone to his voice (we even talk about how his retirement or pre-retirement career could be a sports announcer for local or school sports) and DS seems to take after DH in that regard.
We are finally done with mid-to-upper 80s temps! This week is supposed to be in the 70s...not fall temps here yet, but I'm glad to be done with the July/August-level temps. Maybe in another week or two I can start switching to my fall clothes.

I painted my half bath last night and my wrists are killing me today! I used a color we had in our prior primary bath that I loved (BM Santorini Blue). It looks different in this bathroom which has a lot less light, but I still love it. I spent $60 on the gallon and didn't even use 1/4 of it! I do need to do some touchups tonight, but I'll still have a LOT left so now I'm thinking of painting my primary bath with this color too. It would be a LOT more work though so maybe I'll hire that out and have them do DD's room as well, which she's dying to paint yellow. Maybe I'll have it done when she's with STBX and surprise her with it.
meanie- some people will feel compelled to still bring something. One friend’s way of combatting this was to ask that instead of a gift, if you must do something, bring or Venmo $5 to donate supplies to the local animal shelter. Then they took the money to PetSmart and bought supplies. A pic of the birthday kid dropping off the loot at the shelter was the thank you card.
Why is it that I get so frustrated with my H because I feel like I do almost everything to get the kids out the door in the morning, but when he's not actually home it is so much harder? Am I overlooking some important help he is giving? Did these hooligans just decide to go more crazy than normal on this Monday morning? My daughter locked herself in the bathroom all morning (she's 5). Then she cried because she didn't have time to have a snack before school. I had to carry her kicking and screaming to the car. I cried my whole drive back home.
I would like to know HOW when I’m sometimes only pooping every 3-4 days thanks to pregnancy, when it IS time to poop, MH is inevitably already in the bathroom pooping.
It’s like he’s got some competitive poop spidey sense.

We finally dip into the 70s on Thursday here. I'm going to the fair with DS(8) and the entire 3rd grade from his school on Wednesday. It's going to be so hot and I get to keep track of 4-5 3rd graders. No rides though, thankfully. My bet is that's too much of a liability for the school district.

mae0111, followyourarrow, midwestmama, thank you all so much! I didn't want to call my eye doctor and sound dumb LOL I just called them now and they told me that I can just stop in any time to have them adjusted

This week is crazy. I've got an event in DC (an hour+ each way driving) today and tomorrow, then leave Thursday for a girls trip to Miami with my SILs. Which I have barely thought about, in terms of packing for or getting excited for. But hopefully it will be fun!
It's cool and rainy and I'm wearing a sweater dress and tall boots. Feels like fall!
I got my COVID/flu vaccines on Saturday and felt kind of crappy all day yesterday, so I'm happy that today I feel totally normal again! I definitely wasn't bedridden or anything, but achy and some brain fog. I ushered for &Juliet yesterday, too, which was a really fun show (though I was unable to see the first 30+ minutes, which sucks but sometimes happens when you usher and get assigned a job outside of the theater).
I have kind of a busy week this week - in addition to normal 40 hours of work, I have training to be an election judge, book club, I have to take the dog to the groomer and the car to the auto shop for some maintenance, and I have to pick up my new bite guard at the dentist (which means an appointment), and also dinner with a friend. Mostly good stuff but definitely a lot more running around than a typical workweek!
It was my birthday this weekend and MH got me a bird feeder that takes pictures of the birds that visit. It is amazing! So far, I've only had cardinals visit, but I can't wait to see additional visitors!

@@@
We had such a nice day yesterday that was mostly unplanned, I love living here, especially now having a child.
We went to a museum that had a new exhibit highlighting a Black artist. On the way there after we got off the subway we ran in to a cool exhibit about elephants on the street with these large elephant statues made from a weed that is dangerous to elephants. So the exhibit was highlighting the important of elephants and where they live, etc. Then as we kept walking my partner’s friend was playing in this pop up music concert with experimental music. Afterwards we got pizza and then there was a playground on the water 2 blocks away so we headed there. So the only thing planned was the museum but along the way we ran in to all that other stuff.
So glad our daughter will be exposed to all these different experiences and people growing up.

I took a big step and removed Grey's Anatomy from my DVR to-record schedule after seeing the preview for the new season. I know we've talked ad nauseam about how terrible the more recent seasons have been. I kept holding out hope they would somehow managed to cancel the series on a high note, but I finally hit the wall where it looks so terrible that I just can't watch anymore. I think rewatching the first few seasons with DD this summer helped push me over the edge because it reminded me of just how good it used to be, and just how bad it got.

My organization announced a new org change on Friday and my boss isn’t on it. My entire department got shifted under a new person who does not know our systems. “Nothing will change” seems to be the mantra of the day. Cool. Who will do the full time job my boss did? My boss was here 10 years! That’s just cold, cold, cold.

meanie No gifts is fine, except some people bring gifts anyway. And they don’t ask what the birthday person likes, so it gets random. At that age for DD, we did “this year, we are donating gifts to the ASPA” and attached a list of wish items. Some people gave cash (like $10), some people skipped a gift, and some brought dog food and toys, etc. from the wish list. We were very happy to not have more toys/stuff and dropping off the cash and items as a donation was a lot of fun for DD. She even asked the local PetSmart for donations, so it was great all the way around.

Are you by chance on iron supplements? I had low iron when I was pregnant and the supplements did this to me. They ended up giving me a magnesium supplement with it and that helped so much.

Truly random and I am probably overthinking this. I am working on the agenda for the boosters meeting this week and I want to offer families that have multiple players on the team a discount for the booster fee which is 225/player. How much would you offer? The treasurer is trying to reach out to the other boosters to see what discount they offer.

My friend got me one for my birthday this year. I thought they were gimmicky before I put it up buy I am absolutely delighted by it now. I love seeing the goofy bird pictures. It also gives me a count of how many visitors I've had in a day.

wanderingback it was so beautiful yesterday! We unexpectedly saw the elephants too the other day, that was a fun little surprise I was actually thinking about you a bunch over our days in NY and wondering which playgrounds you guys go to haha. There are a lot of good ones!
On that note, we are home from NY, only 4 hours delayed. Even considering that, we had the absolute best trip! L was just the greatest little travel companion and loved it all, so we got to see all the highlights, and now we need a vacation where we just sleep after so much walking.

I was at a work conference at the end of last week. It was a good time, but I feel like I missed a ton at home. My daughter got a huge callback for her theater group’s upcoming show. She was upset that I wasn’t home to help her practice for it. My H became Stage Dad and got her prepped.
She got it!
I can’t wait to hear her sing Once Upon A December 😊

What sport and what does the fee pay for? I'd probably knock it down to at least $150 for a second kid, $100 for a third.
