I am overwhelmed by options and without real world reviews I am unsure of which ones to get. I wore biker shorts almost exclusively for working out over the summer, but as it's getting cooler I want to add at least a couple pairs of pants in my current size without spending a fortune. I'm looking for leggings that are a bit thicker, preferably with some compression. I also prefer a higher waist that isn't going to roll down. I am very thick waisted and a size 14.

Old Navy high waisted. I've tried a million others and these fit my body the best. I am also thick waisted. I'm 14-16 in hips and 18-20 in the waist. An XL fits me fine, an XXL falls down because they're too big in the waist.
I like Constantly Varied Gear. The compression is just right, they have fun patterns, they all have pockets, and they’re not too expensive. I wish they had a drawstring, but even without they’re still my favorite.
I’ve also had lots of Athleta leggings, and they’re good but very expensive. They changed my favorite pairs about a year ago so they no longer fit the same, and I’m kind of turned off a little.

I tried to find new cropped workout leggings this summer. My favorites were Gym People from Amazon. Side pockets are a requirement for me because I wear them to walk my dogs and carry my phone in the pocket.
I tried Hey Nuts brand, and they felt like/fit like Athleta Salutation stash pocket, but for much cheaper, but they waist slides down for me, which is another deal-breaker.
My other favorites are American Eagle The Everything high-waisted legging, but they stopped having them in a short inseam and the regular are a bit too long for me.
I also like the Old Navy power soft leggings, but the cropped ones, they sort of flare out at the calf on me instead of fitting tightly and that annoys me. I do have some full-length ones that I like though.

I agree with the Old Navy rec. They are great and always have sales (don't pay full price!)
I really love my Athleta leggings. They have different compression levels, I think mine are considered a light compression, but they still feel like they hold me in. A bit more pricey, but I got them on sale and they are like an army green color, so it was probably a seasonal color.

I do love these, but I also love everything I've gotten from 90* Reflex -- sold on Amazon and Nordstrom Rack.
I’ve liked my DSG brand ones from Dick’s. They are high waisted enough to keep things in. Mine are a few years old and holding up well. There is Only a pocket on the small of the back, but my iPhone fits in it.

Marika is my favorite brand of workout clothes for everything. Get a high waist legging. I know some people say to get them way too small but I personally wouldn’t go more than one size down, and you may want to try both sizes and return one. They are affordable, so while I do have some way more expensive compression leggings, I think they are great for the price point.
ON I find to be thinner, and sometimes roll at the waist on me so I size up.
Gap is thicker but I've had problems with the adhesive used to seal the bottom of the pocket giving up. I learned this when my car key slipped out of the bottom of the pocket which, unbeknownst to me now empties into the leg, and worked its way down past my knee without me noticing. (It was cold and icy, in my oblivious defense.) There were a few panicked minutes before I discovered the key along my calf. That story aside, I find Gap seams to cause chafing more often than others (due to bulk), but that takes until 10 or so miles to happen.
Athleta is my preference, although their sizing isn't as consistent as I wish it was. I like the ultimate stash and interval stash shorts and tights. I frequently buy off-season length on clearance. Their pockets are seamed along the bottom instead of the adhesive.
My faves are Alo and actually Spanx’s active leggings. I almost always choose them to teach in because they feel so secure and the waist doesn’t move even with the mic pack clipped to it.
I also have a pair of Beach Riot ones I got on super sale; they’re a different, thin material but somehow still compressive and people always compliment them.
How do the Old Navy ones hold up against pilling and/or chub rub? I was really happy with some $32 ones from Amazon but they stopped making them 😢
I've never had pilling with my ON leggings. I prefer the fit of the 90* but it's truly just a preference -- for the money, I think ON active is great quality.

Athleta is my favorite, but you have to be careful with what style you choose. My favorites are no longer made (Stealth tight- they had Sculptek compression) and I haven't loved a lot of the newer ones. They just feel so much thinner and I much prefer some thickness so my bumps and bulges aren't more obvious. Of their current offerings, I like the Ultimate Stash Tight best for higher compression.

I work out 7 days a week exclusively in old navy high waisted pants. My pants last 2-3 years, slightly less when I was heavier and had chub rub, but never pilling. Just seams coming undone in the crotch/chub rub region after like 2 years.
lavenderblue , until very recently I was a similar size as you. 14/16, occasionally 18. Wide waist. The Old Navy high top ones are the best. I always did XL.
Old Navy powersoft are the most comfortable for me. They're my go-to when the weather isn't freezing. I've also become an athleta snob and bought several leggings but haven't worn them yet. Gap are ok but tend to slide down. I also like zella for a thicker legging but the fit isn't 100% for me.

Thank you everyone. I ordered a couple of pairs from Old Navy to see how they work out but will definitely keep these other brands mentioned in mind as well.
