or anyone paying a kid's tuition. We have a 529. It does not have enough to pay off his tuitionl. Can we pay from the 529 and from our bank account seperrately? Or I think in the past we've sent the money to our account then paid with one payment from our checking account. Is that ok to do? I do have an email in to the bursar but thought I'd ask here.
Nevermind, they already got back to me! Yes, I can do it from two accounts. My DH was convinced that since we didn't do a payment plan that it had to be all at once.

I work in a Student Financial Services Office (my focus is the financial aid side, but I also answer billing questions). You would be able to make as many different types of payments as you want in our office. If your kid went to my school, I'd tell you to have the 529 send their payment to our office and then have you pay the remaining balance from your account through our online system (or via mailing us a check if you are more old school). Our system has limitations with payment plans and 529s, and we can't do payment plans through multiple accounts or 529s, but one time payments can come from anywhere and we frequently have people who pay their tuition from multiple accounts.
Edit: I see you got your answer while I was typing!
