I am spending my day at a Breast Cancer Awareness event. We have a mobile mammogram bus and will hopefully get several women screens. But it was supposed to be an outside event and it's a monsoon. So now we are crammed in a store.
Dh and I had big plans to golf tomorrow, but the monsoon is supposed to continue. I think we may take the downtime and finally can tomato juice for the year. Since all outdoor events are probably off, I may take the time to purge my kitchen before the cabinets come down.
It was a busy week, followed by a busy weekend! DH is away for basically a whole week, so I'm solo with a million activities and things. My parents are also away, and they're my emergency fallback, so that's a challenge.
Last night was DD1's back to school night, where I discovered that no only has the center for learning differences not reached out to her, but that her a-hole history teacher refused her extra time on a quiz yesterday. He's well on the road to being fired (he's a new teacher) for a host of reasons not associated with this issue, but this will not help him. DD1 is advocating for herself and trying to get transferred out of his class, and I've already reached out to the learning center, aggressively, to find out what they're going to do to solve it.
Homecoming is this weekend, and I'd hoped to skip it, but I found out that my nephew is playing on one of the opposing teams, so I'll go. It will be fun for sure, just didn't want to spend my whole day there mingling alone without DH. Then DD1 is having a friend sleep over Saturday evening.
I had a huge project dumped on my desk last yesterday afternoon that's due around noon today, so I'm just trying to get through that so I can get to the weekend.
It's a kid free weekend, so that means chores time for DH and I. I'll catch up on laundry and clean the house. I'm getting my hair done tomorrow. Sunday we'll go to DS's soccer game. Then there's a memorial event for the one year anniversary of DH's friend passing away so we'll go to that.
DH has to work last minute tonight and I'm honestly kind of glad. I could use the quiet, empty house time for sure! I've been in a weird mood all week so the downtime will be good. I also have to pick up a new prescription. My pcp is going to have me try out celexa to see if that's a better fit. I really loved prozac, but after a while it gave me insane insomnia so it's not sustainable to stay on it. It's just a constant guessing game right now to see which med is a better fit. Lexapro did nothing, wellbutrin made me so sick I couldn't continue it. Fingers crossed this one is a good fit!
mae0111, I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope you are able to talk it out and figure out next steps that make sense for everyone. Sending you good thoughts and strength!

Week was busy with a field trip to the fair with DS' 3rd grade class in the middle. Today is a teacher work day so we're home. In an hour we're off to get my covid shot & DS' flu shot. *fingers crossed it goes well*
Tomorrow I'm picking up some native plants to put in my backyard. I'm so excited for the coming years when the bugs, bees & birds will love my backyard. There are no native plant stores in my area but one store does do pop up sales where you can order ahead (which I did) for these pop up sales. I'm worried I didn't buy enough for my space so I'm hoping they have some other options I can buy at their pop up sale.
I had a very long day yesterday (drive 2 hours to meeting, present and meet for 3.5 hours, drove 2 hours back then an evening virtual board meeting) so I am pretty thrilled for my WFH Friday today!
Tomorrow we have two soccer games and a play date. Sunday DD has a softball tournament 2 hours away and DH will go with her, so that will be a long day of juggling the 3 boys. Sunday is our neighborhood Oktoberfest where they shut down a street and have a carnival with real big rides, so the kids love that. Sunday we also have soccer pictures for two kids, a birthday party, and the dog training class. It will be a challenging solo day!
I had an out of town meeting get cancelled (well, moved to a new date where I have a conflict and can’t attend), so now I have no work travel for the next two weeks - yay!
DD has soccer practice tonight and a game tomorrow. We have the professional game tomorrow.
Other than that, I have a massage planned, and possibly yoga and an outdoor market for Sunday (weather dependent). I can't get a good read on the weather because we are already getting winds from Helene, and will get rain later maybe tomorrow.
I'm debating inviting friends over for drinks on Sunday, but I want the weather to be nice and be outside, and so I just go back and forth super indecisive. This is part of my problem, for sure. Talking myself out of things because they aren't as easy as just relaxing.

It was a long week! I worked ten hours today which was a shock since usually I duck out early on Fridays. I outlasted multiple later time zone colleagues.
Part of it was being back last Friday after traveling for two weeks and coming home to a kid staying home sick, so not super productive. Then the kids were out of school for Helene yesterday (it was no where near us — all is well here), I feel like I just hit my productivity stride today.
While I was finishing up, the girls picked up the living areas in preparation for fall decorating and H fixed the pool pump. If he’s right it might cost us $400 instead of the feared $$$$$ leak I was concerned about. Maybe we will get to go to Paris this summer! I told H the house could hear my looking at airfare. H also picked up bbq and then we all watched Beetlejuice since DD1 is going to see the new one tomorrow for her friend’s bday. I really do not know how it got a PG rating. There were many looks exchanged over DD2’s head.
Tomorrow I’ll deep clean and then we will decorate. I hate the idea of decorating a dirty house. DD2 is going to spend the night with my parents, DD1 is going out with her friends, and H and I are going to dinner and an arcade with friends. Sunday, other than picking up DD2, no plans.
Things were good on the home front this week. H has been traveling for work most of the week. Hence, I'm calling in favors for rides and other help with the kids, but the house is quieter and cleaner!
Work has been incredibly frustrating these past few weeks. I've had a lot on my mind between kids, my parents and my sister's increasingly tough battle with cancer. I think I've been occupied enough to put my frustrations with work aside for a while, but now I'm getting fed up. I have a standing 1:1 with my boss Monday morning and have spent considerable time planning how to address my concerns in a constructive, caring way with them then.
Tomorrow DD1 has her last club volleyball tournament of the season and DD2 has her last soccer game of the year. It's been a good run for both of them, but I will be happy to have some more week night evenings free.
My parents arrive for at least a week tomorrow. We will likely do something with them tomorrow night. My sister's birthday is Sunday so we will be with her family all day then 🫶

It was a good week. Beau and I took the whole week off and got back from camping yesterday. We rode for over 200 miles of trails over 5 days. His brother camped with us all but 2 nights. His brother’s employee had dinner with us one night on his way back from an event and Beau’s son and grandson came over for part of a day. That was the only minor hiccup of the whole trip. His son was supposed to be there at 9am but didn’t text Beau’s brother’s Garmin Inreach until 11 saying he wouldn’t be there for a few hours. It was nice to have the Inreach to text at the campsite where we don’t have service for miles. But I get so frustrated with how inconsiderate Beau’s son is. Beau even went out riding looking for him for an hour thinking he had gotten lost. It would have been nice to know he was running late so we weren’t just sitting around waiting for him.
It should be a low key weekend. I ran out of time to get a pedicure today so I’ll get one tomorrow and do something with DS. Sunday we’ll pick up lunch and take it to my parents house.
vasc - I hope you’re all OK and that you don’t have any damage. And I hope you get power back soon!!
Thanks — we are fine, we did not suffer any damage, although some of my neighbors have. We are privileged to have wonderful friends and neighbors who have come together to share food and whose kids are wonderful playmates. It’s been a great two days of neighborly love.
