Life has been a little crazy, so FI and I are running away to a cabin on the lake this weekend. We're packing simple meals to make, books and our fishing poles. I have to work for about an hour tomorrow morning, but I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet.

DD is in 8th grade band, and the band is playing tonight at the homecoming varsity football game, with the HS band. I'm so excited to watch her play!
DS scored a touchdown in his football game last night, so that was exciting. I'm "that" mom that records every play he's in, not just to capture if there any TDs or amazing plays, but DS and DH like to "watch film" of his plays to see what went well and what DS could improve.
Outside of the football game tonight, we don't have any plans this weekend, so I need to catch up on things around the house. I was very unproductive last weekend and it shows.

blondemoment123, please stay safe! I would not go in based on the conditions you shared and that public officials are telling people to stay off the roads. Unless you have a job that requires you to work in/during an emergency (maybe at a hospital, for example) because lives depend on it, then maybe brave it to go in. Outside of that, no way. Once I drove through a blizzard to get to work on a Saturday for a major project (the project team had to go in), though public officials told people to stay off the roads. I got there and home safely, by the grace of God, but as soon as I got home, I told DH that never again would I do that for a job that could replace me in a second without a second thought.
My thoughts are with everyone in the path of these horrendous storms.
And a much lighter, random note, I found a woman on YouTube who is still making old-fashioned step aerobics videos. I still have my teal and purple step and I am here for it!
We made it to the house the ILs got for SIL's wedding weekend yesterday. It's great here, no actual bedrooms left when we arrived, FIL is blasting hurricane coverage, and the little kids found a toy accordion 🙄
But my BIL (who is equally WTF about the family we married into) went out to get real NY bagels for brunch, so we've got that going for us?
candreco, I hope you at least have an air mattress to sleep on!
DS1 has practice after school and then has volunteered to help with our city's kids' 5k tonight (tomorrow is our city's half and full marathon). They haven't cancelled yet, but I expect they will given the rain and strong winds predicted. Wish they would go ahead and give us notice so we can make plans. DS2's school is having their lock-in (from after school till 10pm) and I expect that will continue as most if not everything is indoors for that. Tomorrow DS1 has a meet 2 hours away and this is the only meet of the year we skip because it is so early and 4 hours of driving. The one next weekend is 1.5 hours away and we will go to that, but 4 hours driving and the meet will likely be in the rain, nah. He then gets to rush home and get ready for the Homecoming Dance. He might finally be accepting that I will be taking pictures. The kids are all meeting up at a friend's house beforehand and all the parents will be there taking pictures so get on board with the plan Buddy, it's happening!
My 12yr old has had one period so far. Poor kid is cramping bad and is just not used to being miserable. I threw a heating pad and advil at her; i hope she's not miserable for too long.
I took off today because the kids have off and my husband was supposed to travel for work; the trip was canceled due to the hurricane, so we're all just chilling.
We're hoping to go apple picking this weekend and celebrate my husband's birthday, too.
I have a colleague based in France. Because we have work locations all over the world the required language for presentations is English (unless of course they are only intended for 1 country). In colleagues own words she is not very good at English, so whenever she does a presentation she sends it to me to make sure it makes sense.
I have no problem doing this at all. However, she uses google translate. So while individually, I know what all the words mean, they almost never make sense in the context. It takes forever to figure out what she actually is trying to say. I wish with all the tech/AI we have now a days we could have something that does better translations.

Phew, so glad it's Friday.
I don't think we're completely out of the woods on our cat flea issue - they are not COMPLETELY gone - but I'm not seeing many at all and when I comb the cats, mostly everything coming off is dead. I'm continuing to try and spray furniture and rugs and vaccuum frequently. My water bill is going to be outrageous with all the laundry I have been doing though, ugh.
We're going out for dinner with H's parents this evening to a tavern that has really great wings, so that'll be fun. H is going to the PSU game tomorrow, and it's a night game, so I'm going to have to fill an entire day with DS. Hopefully he has some neighborhood friends around to play with so that I can get a break, lol.
I'm WFH and the kids are home due to the storm. MH had to work and off course he took his car, with low clearance. I'm so annoyed he didn't take my car for safety reasons. I'm not going anywhere and my car is so much better with these roads.
When DH was laid off a month ago, I immediately cut our cleaning service, so our house hasn't been cleaned in 6 weeks. While DH was home a week ago, he installed some trim/sanded/painted in a basement bedroom. He didn't prepare the room, so ALL the linens that were on the beds need to be changed out. DS2 is having a sleepover birthday party so I have to get the whole house ready by 6:30. While also working.
In good news, DH has been able to hang on to a few prior clients from the consulting firm that laid him off and has been in Iowa all week billing hours that will come back to him in their entirety. He can get away with billing only 25 hours a week and make more than he was before, so fingers crossed this continues. I need my cleaning service back! He just boarded his flight home and he's going through Detroit, so fingers crossed he makes it back in time to help me contain 8 10/11-year-old boys at this sleepover.

They are doing construction on my street. It has been going on for weeks. I'm currently wfh and my whole house is shaking. They are replacing the sewer lines, which includes replacing the cleanout at each house. It would've been nice if they'd done this project in the spring like they were supposed to before I paid $800 for a backed up sewer.
I already complained on CEP, but my shoulder that got the Covid vaccine is so SO sore. I can barely use that arm. I’ve never had a vaccine injection spot hurt like this. I’m taking a lot of ibuprofen, but man. I spilled something on my sweatshirt already today and I haven’t changed it yet because getting shirts on and off is hard lol

ssmjlm, what are your daughter and her friend doing for the talent show? I'm remembering talent shows from the 80s/90s and they were mostly lip synching.
Just took down all our outdoor Halloween decorations and brought them into the garage. Also turned over outdoor chairs and moved them up against a wall.

Stay safe all of those in the path of the hurricane!
We are in Arizona for baseball. I truly don’t know how people live in this heat, high of 112 today. I know they say you get used to it but I have never sweated so much in my life.

H's family is all in AZ. We've visited in December and it was an amazing 65 degrees. H & I were in t-shirts and very light jackets. They were shivering in their sweatshirts under winter coats.
I am thinking of everyone in the path of the hurricane!
It has been dreary and rainy all week this week, and while I am grateful we are not getting extreme weather, I am struggling with the lack of sunlight. I also normally walk my dog a lot and that's been cut because of the rain, so I feel kind of lazy and blah. It looks like it will be a few more days before the sun comes out again, sadly.
I threw on some Dave Matthews Band to listen to while I work today, and of course I'm wondering why I don't listen to them more often anymore. I really need to make more of a point of listening to music, period - I love music but tend to do audiobooks, podcasts, TV shows, or TikTok more often these days when I want to listen to something.

fernweh have her try using deepl. It's pretty good!
We have a wedding tomorrow. After being gone for 5 days last week I just want to sit in my house and not go, but I know it'll be fun once we get there. And then starting Sunday AM our entire area's water will be off for almost 24 hours while the water company make some upgrade to the system, so that will suck, but I'm sure we'll survive. Not looking forward to having to shower at 2 am when we get home from the wedding or wake up at 8 am to do it though.

Kids and I are home. School cancelled. Big tree down blocking our road. We have power but no Internet and my phone doesnt get enough signal for anything more than GBCN. H just went into work. These types of days always make me fell like a failure as a mother. The boys fight so much.

I've been trying to write a letter of rec for a student and Chat GPT is down and has been for hours. Heaven forbid I think for myself, I'm too tired, lol.
In a truly random, Hulu has full seasons of shows and I legit am bound and determined to get my money's worth of it, I am watching Nashville. It's been months off and on, but I never finished the show when it was on, and we're past Rayna's death.

Charles Eston is definitely on my elevator list.
Have you ever watched Whose Line Is It Anyway? He's among a handful that rotate through the "guest" chair. You might have fun watching his late 90s / early 00s improv skills.

Yes! I had to remind DH he was on that show when he was playing the dad in The Outer Banks.

I’m sad for all who were hit hard by this storm.
Aw, don't feel that way. My kids fight like dogs all the time. I think it's just kids being kids. I've also witnessed them do really sweet things for each other as well. The fact that you care shows that you are a good mom.
