Friday Randoms

Our power went out this morning. It’s a clear, sunny day in Texas. Thank god dh worked from home today, he’s about to power up the generator and hook up our fridge. Fuck the GOP for privatizing our utilities, they don’t maintain the lines properly; this is almost surely related to ongoing issues from our last hurricane, and my electricity bill hasn’t been under $400 in months.

I got my tattoo and I'm super happy with it. I'll post pics tomorrow after I clean it for the first time myself, before I put my second skin on.

It was entirely unnecessary for any of my department to be here today. The best part is that all of the WFH equipment was checked yesterday to make sure they were operational, then was told no, report in anyway for no reason at all.

Several of my team had no water since they are on well water so they had to come in without a shower, etc. F'ing ridiculous.

My child cut a giant chunk of hair right off the front of his scalp.

My kid now has pneumonia. In the last month, she has had covid, a chickenpox rash and fever reaction from getting re-vaccinated, and now this. Over it.

Just took down all our outdoor Halloween decorations and brought them into the garage. Also turned over outdoor chairs and moved them up against a wall.

You just took down your Halloween decorations from last year? And if so, why not just keep them up for another month for Halloween 2024?!

The school districts in this area all called Thursday off early in the week when we were expecting a Thursday a.m. impact, but yesterday was pretty lovely until the evening hours. We just got tropical storm force winds in our area, which meant power outages for lots of families and the winds didn't die down until pretty late, so none of us (except for H) got any sleep. Our district opened today, but excused all absences- so the kids and I just slept in.

This was such an enormous storm, but it moved quickly. The surge on the west coast of FL was so awful.

Not in the path, just remnants. I mentioned upthread strong winds coming thru and after posting that it occurred to me to bring in our porch decorations.
