I am exhausted. Guys, the library is so chaotic. I love it and I knew going in it wasn’t the quiet dusty place it is in books and tv but good Lord. It could be a sitcom.
It’s cool and damp today and they better not cancel XC.
Does anyone have tips for making a picky dog eat? My dog keeps refusing his dry kibble..
We use a dry meal topper (Dr. Tim’s Flavor Booster from Chewy) but I have seen other brands at the pet store and saw that Target has some as part of their new ‘Cuddle Collab’ pet line
I’m hoping the rest of my weekend will be low-key. Both H and I woke up to $90 charges from Apple, that we didn’t make. I have text alerts setup for every charge so it was a relatively easy process to dispute, but now we both wait for new cards. Thankfully I only have a couple of recurring transactions on this one.
I want to hit the grocery store as soon as I finish my coffee and try a new fall cookie recipe later I found recently. My mom and I decided to shake things up last year and make all new holiday desserts and treats instead of the same ones we’ve always done as family tradition. We had a lot of fun and added several new recipes to the holiday baking rotation.
Thanks for the dog food tips! I bought some bone broth dog food topper at PetSmart yesterday and so far it seems to help, though he has only had 2 meals so that could change. I like to think that if he is hungry he will eat, but it seems like he would rather eat things like grass and mulch. Silly dog! I don't understand how that could be more appealing.
I've been watching so many Tiktoks of the damage from Helene and it's just terrible.

My parents close on their house tomorrow! They are driving down today to do the final walkthrough and we’ll go out to dinner after. They’re staying until Tuesday to get some contractors to come to the house for various things.
After days of gloom, it’s finally sunny today and breezy/fall-like.
I have zero reasons to feel as tired as I feel right now... but I'm completely drained. And I have committed to a roast chicken dinner tonight. I want potatoes with it, but I think I'll have to settle for cauliflower and carrots 😑 it's whatever because there will be gravy 😋
We took H's car into the shop this morning for electrical diagnostic testing. It's been having intermittent starting issues. Earlier this week I used it to run a few errands. No issues until my last stop (which was thankfully only a half hour walk away from home), and then it just.would.not.start. Security tried to jump it off, and it still would not start. There's a click after pushing the ignition, all the dashboard lights come on, the AC turns on, etc... and we just replaced the battery two months ago.
So I left it in the lot and walked home, and then H and I went back up to get it once he got home... and it started right up for him... 🙁🙃🤷♀️
Any thoughts on what this might be? It's an older Honda with push start ignition. Driven every day but mostly for stuff within 5-10 miles. Battery replaced two months ago (when this started happening). Low mileage (well under 100k). Doesn't run rough and doesn't have issues accelerating.
Spark plugs maybe?
It took me two tries to start it this morning just to get it to the shop. Something is wrong, I'm just hoping it's not super complicated/expensive to fix.
Seriously, though, if anyone has similar experience I would love to get some advice. I get anxious talking to mechanics, even though I know enough to catch the shady shit. I have no idea what I might be dealing with here.

The battery terminals could be loose. That happened to us with DH's older car. It wasn't very obvious so we went ahead and got a new battery and it still kept intermittently just not starting. And then we played around with the cables, took the terminals/cables whatever they are are called, fully off, made sure the battery terminals were clean, then hooked everything back up and really tightened everything up and it hasn't been an issue again.

That's the first thing we checked. Terminals are clean and nothing is loose. I'm truly stumped on this one. Hopefully the mechanic's troubleshooting is more informative than mine 🤞
We had an issue a few months ago with burning oil (hasn't reoccurred since the oil change) that we think might have affected the spark plugs. So even if it's well under the recommended mileage for a tune up, the spark plugs might be dirty. Maybe?
We've also had issues a few years ago with the alternator and aren't sure the shop that replaced it was honest...
Honestly, though, I'm really hoping it's something super simple like loose cables. 🤞🤞🤞

Dh went to his parents' house this afternoon to 'clean out his old room.' I think his sister has some furniture she wants to put in his old room (not sure why not her own old room)? so they are selling his old bunk beds and all the matching stuff in there.
His parents had been asking us to 'clean out' that room since we got married, but dh never did. I believe he said they could throw out everything. Instead, my kids stayed in that room whenever we visited (when we lived a few states away) or the inlaws watched them for us, and then they would come home with whatever random toys/junk they found to play with, and then I got to throw them out later (like old McDonalds happy meal toys, a magic kit, a broken TalkBoy recorder, etc.).
But dh took a tote with him to bring home anything he didn't want to throw away and got mad at me when I questioned why he would need a full tote to 'save' stuff he was happy to throw out 16 years ago. He claimed he had yearbooks and his diploma there, and I was like, OK, take this small box for those, but apparently that wasn't good enough. And his plans for this tote are to put it in the attic where it will never be looked at again.
I'm not one to talk, I certainly have more than my fair share of 'stuff,' but I'm not sentimental and I do try to purge stuff that doesn't have a purpose. So I am not happy about him bringing home a tote to just store indefinitely.
Ok, puppy yoga was adorable. I did very little actual yoga. Obviously. But the litter was corgi puppies and omg. So cute. And because I know not to talk about puppies without photos…
Our water heater is leaking. Sounds like this will be the year of all major house things breaking. On tap: hot water heater, roof. We're operating on borrowed time for the HVAV, so I'm expecting that to go next.

You don’t happen to have a 2014 Accord do you? We had one that refused to start regularly early on and H ended up buying a portable jumpstarter to keep in the trunk. I thought it was ridiculous as a Toyota owner with a much older car that had zero issues. Lol. It ended up being a design flaw where water got into the battery case somehow, or at least that’s how H explained it. There was eventually a recall and once fixed no longer had any starting issues.

I hope it’s a relatively easy fix for you!
OMG YES IT IS A 2014 HONDA ACCORD. And we have also had issues with clogged drains from the sunroof and leaking into the interior. The only thing is when it decides not to start we can't even jump start it. Or maybe the little power pack the security guard had just didn't have the juice to get the job done 🤔
But seriously, I feel better knowing someone else out there had a similar issue with the same make/model/year. Thank you!

Oh, well hopefully the dealership can check whether that particular recall issue was ever fixed on your car. The recall was years ago, but we didn’t have any further issues afterwards.
I know Accords have a wonderful reputation, but it kind of soured me on Hondas in general. It had so many issues compared to my zero issue, much higher mileage 2007 Toyota. Ask me which one we still have. 😂
mlkgls - I'm googling info about that recall now. We bought the car used around 2016/2017, so I don't think we would have known about or noticed that recall. I'm usually pretty on top of things like that, but I was not in a good mental state around that time so it doesn't surprise me that I missed it.
We've only just started having issues with it not starting in the last six months though. Does that time-line make sense? That is, could I have the sane make/model/year of car and only this year having these issues?
Thank you for replying - seriously. I was trying to talk H out of taking it to the dealership, so this was so helpful.

We got power back last night and Internet about an hour ago. With everything my fellow Carolinians are going through, I’m not complaining. But it’s been a weird weekend and I haven’t gotten anything done. No meal planning this week, just figuring it out from what we have one hand. It’s a short school/work week for us so I will try to reset next weekend.

I have an Odyssey and, while not quite the same, I’ve said at least 4 times in the last 6 months that I’m never buying another Honda again!

Was in the wrong in this situation?
My street had a block party today, the first one ever. We are a small street (about 10 houses). There is one house that faces out to the main steet so their address is not our block, but their driveway leads to our street and we consider them “neighbors”. Additionally, all the surrounding streets were invited too.
This house didn’t come outside to hang, so I knocked on the door just to let them know they were welcome if they wanted to come. Anyway, the wife answered the door and it was a super odd interaction and she basically said they couldn’t come. I started feel guilty for knocking and intruding.
I know so many here hate strangers knocking on their doors so what does ML think? Was I rude to knock?

We had a nice day. Slept in, got some things done around the house, took a walk, picked up groceries, and a friend came over for an hour and we sat on the porch. I made apple bacon cheddar paninis and homemade tomato soup for dinner. H and I went to a friend's house for beer club for a few hours this evening then. We've been in this little club for about 10 years now; people just bring tasting glasses and a few different beers and we all chat and try them, super fun.
I am still seeing fleas in the house here and there, so I called an exterminator who is coming Tuesday. I cannot keep like vacuuming baseboards and washing linens every day for these things to still be here. Fuck these bastards, I will eradicate them.

Neighborhood parties are super awkward for the people who don't want to participate. You know that people know you're home and you're not there. It's also awkward to "stop by" for a short time and then go back home without leaving to go somewhere else. It was fine to knock and remind them they were invited. I'm kind of surprised they answered if they knew you were a neighbor and they didn't want to go to the party, though.
