I got little sleep. A small part of it was the soreness of the tattoo. At 4am, the dog jumped on the bed and woke me up - he had the poo ick. Luckily, I got him outside before he released anything. But he was uncomfortable so we stayed in the living room. He normally sleeps apart from us, even in the living room (he has his own couch, kinda), but he was velcro'd to me. So, I've been up since then. Ugh. He went out two more times and threw up inside once (nothing much to throw up because he didn't eat dinner last night), but he's feeling better now (think everything is out). He's now sleeping right up against me on the couch. Poor pup. I'll just relax here on the couch with him (so glad I don't have any plans for the day).
Poor guy! I hope he feels better soon. It’s so sad when they are sick.
I’m at a hotel and I just heard a dog bark so clearly I lied when I told my dogs no dogs allowed!
I’m at a conference and this morning my session is in building attached to the building I was in last night by a creepy old iron pedestrian bridge and I’m going to see if I can find a way around using it.
Walking across open air bridges sometimes gives me vertigo and it’s been raining so it’s slippery. Plus I have to carry a ton of stuff. No thank you.

We have a busy but fun weekend planned. DS has flag football and baseball today. He is pitching so I am extra excited about that. Tonight is just dinner at home and chill.
Tomorrow DD has baseball, and I have brunch with some friends. Afterward, I will take the kids to the local theme park to get one more day of rides. I plan to eat funnel cake and sit there while they ride all of the rides.
Woke up to no power for the second day in a row. (Was only out for 2 hrs yesterday, been just over so far today). I know it's small potatos compared to everything else going on in the southeast but it's still annoying.
The pictures and reports from further south are utterly heartbreaking.
The pictures from the hurricane damage are just heartbreaking. So much flooding.
Hoping to get the fam out for a couple events around town today. No loafing around. DH wants to put away the pool umbrellas because even if we turn the heater on and swim, the sun is shifting for winter.
Our preferred pumpkin patch isn’t opening for another couple weeks due to little rain in August. Debating what to do because I would prefer to get pumpkins sooner.
I don’t get why bath and body works won’t let you do more than one promo code. Don’t email me two of them if I can’t use both!

Doing some laundry, finally getting around to fully unpacking from NY, the usual weekend catch up stuff. We'll head over to the ILs' in a bit to have lunch with them and then leave L there while we go to a wedding. I'm not sure if my outfit is really going to be warm enough for the first part which is outside, but I don't have anything else to wear, so let's hope so!

I caught whatever stupid bug H had. Chest & nasal congestion, lost my voice a little bit. SO annoying. OTC meds are helping a little. Have to go down to my other property to reset the cameras and turn off the pool heater, but after that, I'm going to take it easy the rest of the weekend. I've been running around like a madwoman this whole week w/ my son's activities, but next week is a lot lighter. E and I are going to see The Wild Robot on Thursday (we have a day off from school/work).
I am trying to find for a stick foundation for mature skin that minimizes pores. I've been looking forever and can't seem to figure out what will work for me. It is a frustrating process.
My father has just discovered the existence of Facebook reels.
"They had this dog and they made him talk! It was so funny-- he'd say things like "oops I think I poopied my pants!""
"Do you think they really give away a television or are they just trying to get you to respond?"
"Did you know there is a code you can use to win a prize in the claw machine?"
OMG. it was both funny and bizarre. And a little bit of a walk back through time because my son saw that "how to beat a claw machine" video 8 years ago. It does not work, FYI.
We are having family portraits and DS1’s senior portraits done tomorrow. DS1 still hasn’t decided what to wear and is driving me crazy lol - I have my dress but I’m picking what DS2 and DH wear based on DS1 and he’s dragging his feet. I understand this is not a real issue of any kind. I also can’t believe we are doing his senior portraits 😢
I got my covid shot yesterday, felt a bit under the weather last night and slept like a log for 8.5 hours. I feel like my normal self this morning so that's good.
In 3 hours I get to pick up my native plants from a pop up sale in town (I had to pre-order) and plant them in my backyard. I had a lawn company come & take out an area of grass so I can convert that whole area to native plants. I'm so excited for the bugs, bees and birds that will love my area once it gets going!
Does anyone have tips for making a picky dog eat? My dog keeps refusing his dry kibble. I bought a different flavor last week and he ate it for a couple of days but then stopped. He will eat it if I put peanut butter or cheese on it, but I don't want to have to do that every time! That's not as healthy. Is he just smart enough to realize I will eventually reward him for not eating by making the food better? Lol. He starts eating grass and other random stuff outside though and I don't want that!
This weekend is mostly going to be deep cleaning and running a few errands before I have out of town guests the next 2 weekends. We haven't had anyone visit since last December so there are plenty of things I've neglected and need to touch up before we have people staying here. We are also meeting another couple later tonight to do something, not sure what. The plan has changed enough times that I am kind of over it at this point and don't care anymore.
We have a couch coming today so I need to clean the center console out and then we need to get it outside so I can vacuum under there. I am 1000000000000% sure there is an entire dog's worth of hair under there.
I also need to clean a cabin and hopefully finish resort laundry. I'm hoping it will be nice enough for me to hang sheets on the line outside instead of using the dryer.
We picked oldest kid up from college yesterday for the weekend, so we don't have much planned other than hanging out with them

I had a picky eater as my last dog, and when we got our current older dog, we thought she was the same way. We capitulated and would keep a can of wet dog food in the fridge with a lid on it (you can buy can lids on Amazon for super cheap) and would add a spoonful of wet dog food on top of the dry food. Then she'd eat most of the dry food at least and not get the empty stomach upsets that led to her going out and eating grass. We'd pick her bowl up when she was done, and she'd come back and whine at the counter when she wanted more (we ended up with mice when we had our last dog, and one of the big issues was leaving her bowl with food in it down all day for her to graze). But then we got a 2nd dog who is insanely food motivated and try to steal dog 1's food, so we started adding whatever dry food is left in a kong with a few treats, and then she finishes it.
Dog 2 eats Science Diet Lite food. Dog 1's food got recalled, so we switched her to Dog 2's food, and all of sudden she is no longer picky and eats her entire bowl at once without needing anything added to it. It's been months now and she is still doing it.
So I'd go with whatever is easier...giving something on top the dry food to encourage your dog to eat it (some dogs really like canned pumpkin, and that is at least healthier than pb or cheese, but my dog 1 doesn't like it, dog 2 loves it), or try different foods until you find one they might like more. I know the small, family owned pet store near us does samples of their (high end, expensive) food. But changing foods can be hard on their stomachs, so I get not wanting to do that a lot.

I'm staying at a cabin with some girlfriends. Last night my friend flushed the toilet and a snake popped it's head out of the back of the toilet. We were a few glasses of wine in so it was pretty hilarious.

DS did so well at soccer today! He took a ball to the face but stopped crying fairly quickly and went back in the game. His team lost 11-0, but he participated and was so brave!
STBX, my mom, DS and I are going to the Savannah Bananas game tonight. STBX has been decent lately so hopefully he behaves himself. We got the tickets ages ago through DS's school.

My dog is so weird and picky about eating now. What I've found works for my dog is mixing two types of dry kibble he likes, a spoonful of pumpkin and then a wet food topper. I will occasionally sprinkle on some parmesan cheese or put a small bite of whatever we are eating in there. He eats most nights.

H left for a college football game at 8. DS has a neighbor over right now; they're both playing Fortnite and being too loud and somewhat annoying me. It's going to be a long day of solo parenting considering the game is at 730pm, ha. I need to work out, then find something for us to do for a little bit. There's an Oktoberfest downtown today which is always kind of lame, but it's walking distance, or maybe we'll drive out to the lake just to eat up some time. DS doesn't want to go anywhere of course. He said "it's my weekend and I just want to relax" like he's a 45 year old working man or something.

We're just mean and don't feed our dog if he doesn't want to eat. He'll eat when he's hungry enough. I refuse to give in. We feed our dog raw and he loves it normally but he goes on strike once in a while. His loss.
Below - pics of my wedding henna and a pic of my new tattoo which was based on the henna (but more delicate). The two flowers symbolise my H and me, intertwined but still separate and slightly different (if you look at the yin yang symbols in the flowers, you can see one is black on top and one is black on the bottom).

I’ve gotten into a really good groove caring for my Grandma part time during the week (4 days/ 3 nights) but one unexpected bonus is getting to explain to her random things she hears or see on tv. She didn’t move to the US until she was middle aged and our home country extremely shelters women, but she feels comfortable around me which is really cool!
This week alone between Hurricane Helene and political ads, we’ve talked about: What is fracking? What is IVF? How do gender reassignment surgeries work? (She had a ton of questions when Amy Schneider was on Jeopardy also) And where does flood water go? (We learned about the rain cycles, condensation, etc…)
I try to give simple, succinct responses. She’ll be 96 in January is extremely sharp but forgetful, so I’m not sure how much she’s actually retaining but still!! Knowledge is power!

My favorite “lesson” so far is that Kamala can be two races while stilling be fair and having straight hair. I had to gently remind her that her OWN BROTHER was been married to a Caribbean woman for 50+ years (We’re Arab) and HER NIECE looks a Kamala copy and paste.
I could practically see the wheels turning in her head, like she finally “got it”. 😎
beerlover if he entertains himself I'd stay home and enjoy!
It's me, I don't want to stay home
I think we're going to walk down to the festival (I use the term very loosely lol) with a friend and his mom, so that will be slightly more entertaining for him.

My older dog would not reliably eat meals until I started cooking for her. I tried a variety of kibbles as well as canned foods. I took notes for months on what I fed her how much she ate, what was going on in our lives. There was no pattern other than regularly refusing food. Once she started getting fresh meat, grains and veggies she started eating every single meal. I make a big batch every 2ish weeks and freeze in individual portions. I would probably exhaust other options before going down this road, but I also wouldn't keep adding high value items to entice eating. You're just digging a deeper hole to get out of.

Well, so much for a relaxing week at home between work events. My mom called and is super worried and anxious about her health. She said she just wanted to talk to another competent adult (my dad is definitely useless when it comes to health stuff). Well that turned into me making a trip up there tonight and staying for a few days. In part bc she is NEVER worried/anxious about her health so now I’m extra concerned. She needs some specific tests but it takes forever for her to get in with her docs and meanwhile she just doesn’t feel good (lots of nausea and some other GI stuff). I’m glad I can just be there for her, but man, dealing with aging parents is not for the weak.

Not that anyone cares, but we've still done nothing all day. I heard that our town Oktoberfest was lame and had nothing for kids and no food, so we didn't bother. Chilling at home is definitely preferable to last weekend's deep cleaning the house for 2 days straight though! DS's friend has been here since 10am. He has somewhere to be at 5pm thankfully so I'll get a break. He's well behaved, but I do have to manage some squabbles between them from time to time. Also, I feel like I have to be "on" when other kids are in the house and not just doing my own thing in another room, so I don't feel super relaxed.
I think we'll do a couple errands when the friend leaves and DS has said he wouldn't mind going to the movies tonight at 7pm to see Wild Robot, and movie popcorn dinner sounded great to me.
We got our flu and covid shots yesterday afternoon, and about 12 hours later (so middle of the night) I woke up with body aches and feeling ridiculously dehydrated. I basically slept like crap all night, and so I'm ridiculously tired today.
Thankfully my book club voted last year to stay virtual, so I only had to take my laptop downstairs to and get on Zoom to participate. I don't think I would have made an in person meeting.
Little black cat got her staples out yesterday morning. The vet says she's healing nicely, and she's thrilled to be free from "cat jail" (our hall bathroom). We still don't have pathology back yet though, so we still don't have a full picture of her cancer.
