Why it matters: For the next generation, gender is becoming the biggest predictor of how you think, act and vote.
"There's a much broader story here," says Daniel Cox, director of the Survey Center on American Life. "Even after all the votes are tallied and we've moved on from the 2024 election, we're not going to have resolved any of the cultural and relational tension between young men and young women."
You see it in politics: Women are turning left. Men are turning right.
You see it in religion: For the first time ever recorded in the U.S., young men are more religious than young women.
You see it in education: There are 2.4 million more women on U.S. college campuses than men, the American Institute for Boys and Men (AIBM) notes. Those degrees are often resulting in higher-wage jobs for women in big cities.
You see it in the labor market: Wages and labor force participation have increased since the 1980s for college-educated men and women, and for working-class women. But they have stagnated for working-class men, who are also now significantly less likely to be employed than four decades ago, according to AIBM's analysis.
You see it in visions for the future: Men are more likely than women to want marriage and kids, according to Pew Research Center.
I thought it was interesting that the article says gender polarization is strongest in adults under 25, and yet that's also the age group with the fastest-growing percentage of people identifying as nonbinary.
I haven’t read the article yet….but there’s ALWAYS been a huge rift between genders. Except it was men who had all the privilege and all the money, and women who were systematically oppressed. And now that women are starting to catch up, men are getting butt-hurt about it?

That link doesn’t work for me either, will try to Google!
But yes I was wondering the same exact thing if this research going forward will also include nonbinary people, as well as if there are any differences among transgender and cisgender women for example. Many research areas are lacking in regards to the needs of non binary and transgender people.

I blame andrew tate.
Also, I don't think it's anything new that when one group grows in visibility there's pushback. I do wonder for the purposes of these studies and polls if/how they classified nonbinary or trans.

I do feel like it's different now, but maybe people "in the moment" always feel that way? I guess this was interested in that it was statistics and facts, not just feelings. In many ways, the women are outpacing (out performing?) men at life by many metrics, but obviously we're still unequally burdened by things like wage gap disparity, child rearing, etc.
As always, i'll plug this book. The patriarchy is bad for EVERYBODY. When the boys aren't doing well, it impacts the girls too. The type of men available to date and be fathers or brothers or children or employees or in our churches, really matters & we ALL suffer when anybody is suffering. We're raising boys and men, we need them to be productive, kind, engaged members of society or there are bad implications (violence, disquiet, despair, addiction, etc.) www.amazon.com/Boys-Men-Modern-Struggling-Matters/dp/0815739877

There are SO MANY men on Ticktock who are posting similar things now - trad wife desires, body count, etc. The misogyny is being grown in the young male category and young women are not having it - and luckily, middle aged men (young GenX or Millenials) are also posting about the idiocy of what these young men are posting. Basically, there is now an acknowledgement that many of these young men (and older men) have been taught to see women as basically objects who will do things for them and the family only and not as human beings/friends who are equal. It's now on men to start re-educating themselves about the fact that women have choices and don't have to live the way their mothers/grandmothers did (and no, many of them didn't love cleaning and taking care of everyone).

I haven’t read the article yet but this is also my first thought, based on my experience with both men and boys over the last 10 years.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
