The Jungle, the sequel

The post published a story about all the sanitation issues at Boars Head leading to the listeria outbreak. Reading it, I couldn’t help thinking about Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle.

Man - It's been a rough year for mid Atlantic factories and listeria. I've also been following the story with the ice cream plant, which doesn't appear that it was chronic issues like this, but they're still going to go out of business over it. www.npr.org/2024/06/26/nx-s1-5020142/ice-cream-recall-listeria-hersheys-friendlys-jenis

This sounds NASTY though. Sewers and drains backing up, mold on the walls, liquid leaking through ceilings and spraying off fans, meat buildup on doorways? EW EW EW EW EW. Ew. ew.

how in the fuck do you even get meat buildup on a doorway?

And to just take liverwurst out of their lineup entirely says to me that they have no intention of fixing any of it since there's no reason a production line for that can't be made to NOT produce contaminated products, and something like a bologna would have the same contamination risks with basically the same process (mixing meats & spices, grinding, grinding again, blending, packing, cooking, chilling)

i was so excited when my go to grocery store announced they would be selling Boars Head deli meat & cheese... then i heard about the listeria... NOT Cool!
