After much overthinking, we decided to adopt a second cat. Meet our 10 week old baby. Name is TBD and we’re open to suggestions. She has huge eyes and looks like a Beanie Boo. Her eyes are a bit unique; mostly dark amber with a green ring around the pupils. She is all black except for curly, white ear hair.
She’s exactly one year younger than our resident cat. The introduction was NBD and they were coexisting (mostly) peacefully within 24 hours. I didn’t plan to introduce them that quickly, but she didn’t want to be isolated and he was very curious. They’re already playing together. This is good. Giving him a companion was the whole purpose.
Feel free to share your cat photos/stories too. Pet threads are fun. Thanks to all that shared your experiences and allowed me to talk through the decision.
DD2 and I were just talking about getting a black kitty yesterday to keep our dog company. She wants to give it a witchy name and settled on Agatha for a girl, Aggie for short.

This was taken less than 24 hours after she came home. She never hid or anything…just waltzed in like she belongs. I’m glad he is accepting her, that was my biggest worry.

Here are my girls. Black one is Gumdrop (name courtesy my son), and the Tortie is Lila (named by my daughter). Your kitten is so cute! Congratulations! ❤️
She is adorable! I had a cat that looked exactly like her as a child and I named her Mitsy. I don't know why, but I was 7 and it sounded like a good name to me.
I love your son's choice of Femininomenon. I might go with that and call her Femme for short.

I love her. Maybe Glinda (the good witch)? I too have a soft spot for black cats. Here is Forest (who is a miracle). Found half dead, stuck in a tree needing the jaws of life to free him. Multiple surgeries to save him. We adopted him 17 yrs ago today and he is about 19 yrs old now. And Junior who we got as a wee kitten from the local humane societyThey are both absolute loves
She looks fun and spunky!!! Glad your orange kitty got a friend. We brought home an all black kitty a few months ago after a friend who has health problems couldn’t keep her anymore. Her name is Sadie and she is slowly warming up to us.

Is Olive a super common cat name? This is one that keeps coming up for 3/4 of us and the internet says it’s a common black cat name. I don’t want a super common/overused name, but neither H nor I can think of any cats we know named Olive.
I love the idea of a black cat named Karma, but it doesn’t seem to fit her.
Olive is really cute for a black cat! I know a ton of Olive people and dogs but no cats, lol.
Same. There are like 3 Olives in my kids’ classes. I know one Olive dog. No cats though. The vintage/classic names fit our style.
My kids say she needs a title. Maximus is technically Sir Maximus Topham Catt. Maybe we have a Madame Olive Femininomenon…
Other ideas include Mabel, Hazel, Karma, and Maude. Maybe Maple, Poppy, Marigold, and other plant names. She is a Velcro, snuggle kitty, but also feisty. She’ll have to be scrappy to survive the big orange brute.
