Our church has an annual dinner dance, and for the last 2 years I've been on the committee and put in charge of it. This year's theme is "A Night on the Red Carpet"--so Hollywood themed. People can dress as a movie character, movie star or just dress up.
I have no clue what to wear. My wardrobe doesn't extend to "fancy." Last year's theme was "Through the Decades," so I bought a flapper-style dress. As the lead organizer, I figure I should lean into the theme, but have no idea what to wear. Googling "red carpet dress" just gives me a bunch of red dresses.
Any suggestions? I'm plus-size and would rather not spend a ton of money, so that limits options
Are you wanting to do a movie character, movie star or dress up? What kind of dresses do you usually wear?
I, myself would do "Old Hollywood" and wear something like this with classic 50's style jewelry and maybe a wrap. I'm really into these sleeveless, high neck dresses at the moment!

I couldn't think of a particular character or star, so probably just dress up. I usually wear something with a natural waist and slightly flared skirt.
I also would wear some kind of long gown…maybe with sequins? Maybe long gloves. Dramatic jewelry. Fancy wrap or “fur” stole? Hair up if you have long hair.
Amazon is great for this kind of thing, you can get the look at a good price but the fabric will be crappier...which doesn't really matter for just one night. If you search for "formal maxi dress" a bunch of options come up for around $50
