I'm trying to plan an overnight trip to NYC the first weekend of December. We will be taking NJ Transit into the city. We're seeing a Broadway Show Sunday afternoon and then will do a nice dinner Sunday night, and a few touristy things on Monday before heading home. My 16DS eats like a toddler, so nothing fancy. I am overwhelmed by the sheer amount of hotels. I prefer to stay at something Hilton owned, but can be convinced to stay elsewhere for the right price. Not super concerned about amenities, but breakfast and a gym would be nice.
DD and I stayed at the Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square Central on W. 41st St., super convenient to Broadway (like a two minute walk to both shows we saw), Bryant Park, subway lines, etc. It does have breakfast but we skipped for better options near our plans for each day- I'll take a bodega egg sandwich over the Hampton Inn breakfast any day. We liked Carnegie Pizza two doors down from the hotel (just on the other side of the Nederlander Theater), perfect for post-show second dinner.
We've stayed at both Hampton Inns in the Times Square area and liked the location. The free breakfast is crowded and very meh, but my kids get something at 7 am so they aren't hangry and then we walk to Paris Baguette. We've eaten at Carmine's and Becco for Italian and both were delish!

there's a hilton garden inn (I think its hilton garden inn/central park) that is like a block or two away from the craziness of times square that we stayed in a few years ago
No help on hotels, but whenever we are in that area with our kids we usually hit up Connollys. There’s two locations and one is super close to Broadway. It’s an Irish pub so always a fun atmosphere and the picky kids like their pub food.
Though when I took my daughter and a friend to see the outsiders, we tried pink taco and that was a hit with two teens (if you guys like tacos/fajitas/quesadillas/nachos). Spicy marg there was two thumbs up.

I recommend this exact hotel as well! I haven't been since 2018, so don't know what might have changed, but having previously always stayed at 45th and 8th, having breakfast on offer AND alllllllllll subway lines running through stations within a 2 minute walk was a massive game changer. I don't ever want to stay any where else ever again. And it's right in the middle of 41st st, so away from the busy traffic on the avenues and very quiet IMO.

My mom and I stayed multiple times at the Courtyard Marriott, at 114 West 40th Street. Close enough to walk to shows, but not right on Broadway. Quiet, clean, staff is amazing.
Also, the Sheraton Times Square, 811 7th Avenue 53rd Street. Busier, but a really nice hotel.
We stayed at the Hyatt Centric Times Square and ate at Don Antonio’s (fried pizza dough) the night we saw Hamilton in 2017 and walked everywhere. I’m going in November and really want that pizza again!
The Tik Tok Diner is on 34th & 5th - right outside Penn Station on the Moynihan side (down a block from the big post office). It’s really good! The location is great and I’ve eaten there with my cousins and even took my dad when we went to a show at Madison Square Garden. Super casual, more than burgers, and the menu is good enough for you and your teenager.
I wouldn’t double back to it if you are staying on 41at and walking to Broadway for a show. But it’s great coming/going for travel from Penn Station.
Any of the Hilton chains are good in that area. Go with a good price.
I hope you enjoy your show.
ETA: Junior’s is also family friendly and good for teens. 49th & Broadway (so , up a little bit). Portions are huge. You can easily split a portion of anything. Good for dessert, too.

I’m going in a couple weeks with dd for her birthday (8). We have tickets to see wicked and I wanted to do something special. I booked lunch reservations at bergdorf Goodman. It’s such a darling and iconic space and has a view of Central Park. I’ve never been but I’m excited. 🥰
